The Swanholme Tavern, Lincoln

Visited for the first time last week. Excellent choice and standard of beer and wines. Young bar staff incredibly polite and helpful. Food very good.

The White Horse, Kimpton

What a great pub! We were in the Stevenage area and looking for somewhere to eat and drink after a disastrous visit to 'The Brocket Arms' and happened across this delightful place. A warm welcome from the landlord, a clean, light and airy atmosphere in an ancient building and great, well-kept beer.

The Brocket Arms, Ayot St. Lawrence

Someone left a comment that this pub hadn't changed in 40 years - how right they are. What it's got are 1960s standards of service, atmosphere, welcome and cobwebs that date back that far. We visited yesterday evening - the welcome was offhand to say the least: the landlord pointedly ignored me to continue his chat and a barmaid finally served my drinks with poor grace. Whilst we waited for 7.30 to come round before we could order, let alone be served, food we had the opportunity of inspecting the ancient cobwebs and layers of dust adjacent to our table as well hearing the delights of the locals' views on the pros and cons of wildebeest meat. Frankly wild boar (or bore) would have been a more apt topic. We left before ordering food so can't comment on the quality or lack of it. The beer was excellent - hence my rating of 3. On the way out we met another disenchanted customer who'd left after being charged 7.50 for a gin and topic complete with the slops from the ice bucket. We'll never go back.

The Otter, Derby

Big rambling place where its continuing popularity (always busy whenever I've called in) is a reflection of the excellent food. It's basically a dining pub but the service is friendly and good and although the real ale selection is very limited (Pedigree) the beer is well kept.
Whilst it can get busy the atmosphere is alweays relaxed. Its riverside situation is also a bonus.

The Royal Oak, Aubourn

This is a good pub. It's got an excellent range of beers, many of them local. The food is freshly cooked and good value. The bar staff/ landlord is friendly. Good range of drinking/ eating rooms as well as seating outside.
