Duke of York, Lichfield

Lovely old building with plenty of space. I find Joules range rather bland so always look out for the guest beers. Unforuntaly none on offer on our last visit yesterday.

The Horse and Jockey, Lichfield

Best pub in Lichfield for me. Always interesting range of guest beer, well kept. Friendly staff.

5 Apr 2019 12:08

Ye Old Vaults, Ashbourne

Actually Ye Olde Vaults.

22 Jun 2015 12:01

The White Lion, Kimberley

Great pub, full of friendly locals early on a Friday night, big choice of well-kept, mainly local beer. Harvest Pale ever-present and always on top form.

Barleys, Mere Green

Closed.

Queen Adelaide, Kimberley

Closed.

The Three Horseshoes, Wessington

Closed for good - to be converted to a private house. Apparently owned by the same people as the Horse and Jockey in Wessington.

Red Lion, Hockley

Decent pint of Wadsworth, staff friendly, nice looking building and interior. Would revisit.

1 Jan 2012 13:49

Rose Villa Tavern, Birmingham

I like the renovation, staff fine, wi-fi didn't work, beer (Thornbridge Sequoia and Lord Marples) far too cold.

The Briar Rose, Birmingham

Poor. Lots of the 'beer festival' beers off with no sign of replacements at about 21.00. Staff slow to clear tables. Wanted food but lots of items (like chicken, bacon) were sold out/not available. Service at the bar slow to glacial. Avoid.

Rose Villa Tavern, Birmingham

Beautiful building but 100% keg when I visited.

3 Aug 2010 15:20

The Jewellers Arms, Hockley

Decent and friendly back street local. Hobson's bitter the only cask conditioned beer, well kept. Honest home cooked food.

3 Aug 2010 15:19

Apres, Sutton Coldfield

Actually in West Midlands, not Staffordshire.

26 Jun 2010 11:18

The Queens Head, Watnall

Still a good pub. Nice crowd, decent range of beer, always well kept. Not tried the food.

8 Mar 2010 18:28

The Luttrell Arms, Dunster

Ddifficult to rate as the beer (Butcombe) was terrific and I always like the Cheddar Valley cider. Back bar is a favourite spot. However my Exmoor Game Stew was a complete mess on the plate and very overpriced. Other diners fared better but none of the food is good value.

10 Jan 2010 16:25

The Cock and Bottle, Notting Hill

Was flat-sitting round the corner so called in a few times. Beer is generally well kept, Harveys and Hogsback last week, although I thought that the Summer Ale, which the landlord recommended, was tired. Friendly and, for the area, a rare survival of an old-fashioned local.

The Princess Louise, Holborn

Lunchtime visit, quiet, no food which I found surprising. Beer was of poor quality (had a good pint of SS in Middlesbrough a few days before). But, yes a beautiful pub.

9 Aug 2009 19:38

The Bottle of Sack, Sutton Coldfield

Walked in recently to check out the beer festival. Two staff on, backs to the bar doing something terribly important - but not serving. Customers waiting. Walked out. Avoid.

22 Apr 2009 11:51

The Angel, Hayes End

Another visit, with my father. We go about every two months when I visit. Always friendly even though very much a locals pub. Pride consistently good.

22 Apr 2009 11:47

The Crispin, Great Longstone

Decent beer and food, space to spread out, dartboard.

22 Apr 2009 11:44

The Packhorse Inn, Bakewell

Nice pub, decent little garden, couple of well kept beers from Thornbridge, didn't try the food. Only downside a rather proprietorial group who wouldn't move away from the narrow bar.

22 Apr 2009 11:43

The Monsal Head Hotel, Monsal Head

Can't comment on the beer since we couldn't get served (warm Saturday in the middle of April). Orderly queue at the bar, one person serving. Walked out down to the Packhorse.

22 Apr 2009 11:41

The Lord Clifden, Birmingham

Decent pint of Batham's which in Birmingham is a reason enough to visit. Friendly and more spacious than you might think after a tasteful refurb. The brunch/sandwich menus is ordinary but cheap enough. Good outside area.

1 Mar 2009 20:47

The Master Cooper, Middlesbrough

Another visit. Just as good apart from ill-mannered locals attempting to jump the queue. But the staff are good and serve in order.

1 Mar 2009 20:41

White Swan, Stokesley

Great pub. Friendly, coal fire, always a good choice of well kept beer. Never miss when I am in the area.

1 Mar 2009 20:38

The Bull, Sissinghurst

New landlord, modest revamp inside (although the new seating is very 'inefficient'), decent Harveys.

1 Feb 2009 17:20

The Three Chimneys, Biddenden

Excellent Harvey's Old recently. Real fire. Friendly staff and locals.

1 Feb 2009 17:18

King William IV, Benenden

Good pub, friendly landlord (used to be at the Bull, Sissinghurst), well kept Master Brew.

1 Feb 2009 17:16

Bunkers Hill Inn, Nottingham

Liked it here. Good beer from the Nottingham Brewery and a pleasant attractive room.

18 Jan 2009 12:24

The Unicorn, Wollaston

Good pub with good beer.

13 Oct 2008 21:54

The Cross Inn, Kinver

Spent a pleasant couple of hours here watching the football and playing darts. Enville Ale on. Friendly local.

13 Oct 2008 21:51

The Queens Head, Wolverley

Interesting village with some fascinating buildings. Pub is friendly with, on our visit, Banks and Jennings. Supposed to be Robert Plant's local but we didn't spot him.

13 Oct 2008 21:49

Lock Inn, Wolverley

Under new management.Good lunch of local faggots here recently. Service creaked a bit (sunny Saturday) but friendly enough. Great setting by the lock. Bit choice not great but 2/3 cask conditioned on and well kept.

13 Oct 2008 21:47

Type 3, Sutton Coldfield

Closed.

9 Aug 2008 19:19

Barleys, Mere Green

Awful. No real ale. No atmosphere.

9 Aug 2008 19:18

The Horse and Jockey, Sutton Coldfield

OK pub but the current rating of 9.0 is way too high. Decent beer, not a great choice, standard Brakes food - that's all.

9 Aug 2008 19:15

The Old Joint Stock, Birmingham

Nice pint of cool Chiswick on a hot day recently. Staff fine. Wonderful room. Much better now it is non-smoking.

9 Aug 2008 19:10

The Master Cooper, Middlesbrough

Visit occasionally when staying with friends in Middlesbrough. Decent Sam Smiths, lots of locals, mainly men on an early Friday night. You could do a lot worse.

9 Aug 2008 19:07

The Bull, Sissinghurst

OK, but getting a bit tired inside. Hear the owner wants to sell. Decent Harveys.

9 Aug 2008 19:00

The Stag, Kimberley

Best (and only non-Greene King) pub in the village. Coincidence? You decide.
Always a good choice of beer, well kept, friendly staff, good company.

9 Aug 2008 18:58

The Great Western, Wolverhampton

My first visit so no axe to grind re previous management etc. Excellent beer, great pork babs, cheap. Plenty of space. Memorabilia. What's not to like?

9 Aug 2008 18:54

The Angel, Hayes End

Clientele is friendly enough - 'goodbye young'un' a regular said to me as we left (I'm 60). Landlord can be a bit surly. Beer well kept. How long can it last - looks very run down.

27 Mar 2008 11:53

The Botwell Inn, Hayes

Was born in Hayes and come bay to take my father out for a pint. We usually end up here. Good choice, staff friendly, plenty of seats. Not eaten here but he has and was not keen.

27 Mar 2008 11:49

The The Gate Inn, Sutton Coldfield

Now reverted to it's old name of The Gate, bigger range of beer, new management.

26 Dec 2007 13:36

The Star, Tideswell

Friendly local with good breakfasts.

15 Oct 2007 07:10

The Red Lion Inn, Litton

What a contrast to the sourness and bad manners on offer at the Three Stags Heads down the road! Excellent choice of well kept beer and a warm welcome. Landlady even gave a fellow walker with a leg sprain a lift back to Tideswell. Didn't eat there but they turned away plenty on a Saturday night so very popular,

15 Oct 2007 07:08

The Three Stags Heads, Wardlow Mires

Yes, good beer, interesting building but the landlord is completely up himself. A barked command to 'shut the door' half a second after walking in, no light over the bar so fonts unreadable, no change and a (private) remark about lager overheard by the landlord provoked a four letter outburst. Worst of all he demanded that one of us move from a seat near the fire as it 'you are in my seat'. Good pubs are also about hospitality. There is none on offer at this pub. Avoid.
