The George, Chalfont St Peter

Reopened as a Spanish restaurant / tapas bar

24 Mar 2018 15:56

The George, Dorchester on Thames

Called in for lunch, 4 real ales on, sampled 2 of them, both well kept and well served. Lunch was also very good, can''t fault the place.

29 Aug 2017 21:21

The White Hart, Chalfont St Peter

Now refurbished, looking very smart, one bar removed to make way for new kitchen and it has a new permanent landlady. 4 real ales on offer, cheaper than before, all seem to be kept well, could return as the best pub in the village, particularly if they change the beers on a regular basis.

7 Mar 2017 16:10

The Village Hall, Chalfont St Peter

Now reverted to it's old name of "The Jolly Farmer", reopened as a gastro pub, but has a large bar area with 4 real ales,, which is separate to the restaurant with plenty of room to sit. Food in the restaurant is good but a bit on the pricey side.

9 Nov 2016 17:19

The Falcon Inn, Denham

Great pub, good real ales that are well kept, excellent food. good service and an attractive courtyard garden, ticks all the boxes.

10 Oct 2016 17:32

The Russell Arms, Butlers Cross

A very smart country pub offering 3 local real ales and dome excellent food, the staff werre efficient and friendly and the pub was comfortable with no music or televisions. It is now a community pub and is run more as a restaurant with bar than a bar with restaurant, but despite that they were very welcoming to 3 sweaty, tired cyclists

27 Sep 2016 17:55

Merlins Cave, Chalfont St Giles

Completely changed inside, gone is the old dingy feeling, instead you get a large restaurant with a small bar area. Beers were O.K., garden is great, got mixed feelings about it.

25 Aug 2016 21:15

Feathers, Chalfont St Giles

Closed for while now reopened as a restaurant.

25 Aug 2016 21:11

The White Hart, Chalfont St Peter

Reopened under a temporary manager, 4 real ales, decently kept.

25 Aug 2016 21:10

The Village Hall, Chalfont St Peter

Due to open as a gastro pub part of Raymond Blanc's White Brasserie chain.

25 Aug 2016 21:08

The Poachers, Chalfont St Peter

Reopening as a children's creche, another pub bites the dust1

25 Aug 2016 21:07

The Dumb Bell, Chalfont St Peter

Still a good pub, does good basic food, serves 5 real ales, good service friendly atmosphere, just wish it was in the Village center then I could walk to it.

11 Jan 2016 17:11

The Crown, Chalfont St Giles

Now Costa Coffee

11 Jan 2016 17:05

The Poachers, Chalfont St Peter

Still Closed

11 Jan 2016 17:03

The George, Chalfont St Peter

Now Closed.

11 Jan 2016 17:02

Rose and Crown, Stoke Poges

Good locals pub still has a Public and Saloon bar was doing 3 real ales when I visited all in decent condition, friendly, old fashioned but worth going to.

19 Jun 2015 18:44

The Old Cannon Brewery, Bury St Edmunds

Stayed here for a couple of nights, the room was excellent, the breakfast good but a bit on the small side, the food in the evening was good. The bar itself lacks atmosphere, it is all very stainless steel and srcubbed tables, the staff very friendly and the beer very good both Old Cannon and 2 guest ales. Nearly a very good pub, just need to sort out the interior design to get some warmth in to it. But a joy to go to Bury St Edmunds and not drink Greene King!

7 Jun 2015 21:54

The Black Horse, Iver Heath

Traditional exterior but a nice modern styled pub inside, Badger beer, decent food, best pub in the area without being particularly special.

10 Dec 2014 10:08

The White Lion, Amersham Common

Wow, what a difference, a bright, clean, welcoming pub doing 2 good real ales. This used to be a miserable dull place, now it is somewhere I'm happy to take the wife to. Food a bit limited but perfectly acceptable, staff pleasant and the beer in good condition.

10 Dec 2014 10:04

The Red Lion Inn, Litton

Excellent pub, it was very busy when we went and the service was on the slow side, but the bar maid acknowledged us and was very efficient when our turn came. 4 real ales, good selection in good condition. The food was good, large portions, sensible prices, but again slow service, we were on holiday so it did not matter.

14 Jun 2014 17:52

The Plough Inn, Winchmore Hill

First time back at this pub for some years, it is a great location and pleasant enough inside, but it is now more of a Pizza Italian restaurant than a pub. They still do real ales, 3 on tap when I was there, kept in decent condition, a good place to take the Mrs but not a boozer.

9 Apr 2014 18:33

The Royal Standard, Wooburn Common

What a brilliant pub, 8 or 9 real ales, 6 ciders, very good food and friendly staff, can't ask for more, well worth finding if you are in the area.

9 Apr 2014 18:29

Titchwell Manor Hotel, Titchwell

Definitely an up market hotel rather than a pub, the restaurant is good and the bedrooms very stylish, however it is not a drinker's pub, only 2 ales on, and the bar is really another restaurant.

17 Sep 2013 18:41

The Dabbling Duck, Great Massingham

A very good pub / restaurant, local ales in a friendly but small bar (3 ales on) good interesting menu in the restaurant, better than many other pubs locally.

17 Sep 2013 18:38

The White Hart, Charter Alley

Surprised by the last review, because the website clearly says no food Sunday and Monday. However, went there today for lunch and it was excellent, good food, good service and 4 real ales all small breweries.
It is a small village pub that has been extended but has managed to retain a cosy atmosphere. Only problem, we live over an hour away so probably will not visit it very often.

30 Nov 2012 20:11

The Jolly Cricketers, Seer Green

I go back to The Cricketers about once a year hoping that it's attitude to food has changed but unfortunately it just seems to be getting worse. Ordered a ham and cheese ploughmans, cost 8 95, for that I got 2 small slices of ham (admittedly off the bone and good) 2 small triangles of supermarket cheddar, one slice of bread cut in half, 2 pickle onions and a small amount of greenery, it all looked lost on a wooden board. The beer on the other hand was very good, 4 real ales decently served by a very pleasant landlady. Please, please give value for money on the food and then I could become a regular!

6 Nov 2012 21:46

The Happy Man, Englefield Green

A great little real ale pub, not the smartest, but a pub that knows what is wanted, good real ale regularly changed, a barman who knows how to keep it, and good food at sensible prices. Wish it was more local.

2 Oct 2012 21:44

The Three Oaks, Chalfont St Peter

Now renamed The Three Oaks, it's an up market gastropub, still serves real ale, still keep it decently. It is not your local boozer but it is a good place to go for a meal and a couple of pints.

1 May 2012 18:07

The Village Hall, Chalfont St Peter

It's a shame but this place is slowly going down hill, it is tired and drab, and in some places down right dirty, one of the urinals has been broken for weeks, there has been no effort to replace it, The management, who used to take a pride in it, seem to have lost interest. The beer and food are O.K. but the premises are not attractive or welcoming. It's a shame because it is a good location and could be brilliant, there are better pubs locally.

3 Apr 2012 16:26

Stag Inn, Mentmore

In a nice location, the small basic bar offers 2 real ales Bombardier and Youngs Special. The restaurant is large, very gastropub with an interesting menu which is served in a stylish way, but unfortunately the cooking is not up to the style and prices. Food was overcooked, and dry, a disappointment because the sevice and ambience was good.

1 Mar 2012 21:35

The Old Swan, The Lee

Lovely old fashioned pub, lots of low beams and character, very friendly. 3 real ales Brakspear, Doombar, Chiltern Brewery, decently kept but sold rather cold. Good selection of food and good portions.

21 Feb 2012 21:22

The Crown, Chalfont St Giles

Not really a pub it is a restaurant with a small bar attached, no real ale.

7 Feb 2012 18:21

Merlins Cave, Chalfont St Giles

Why is this pub not better, it is the definitive pub of the village in the prime position but when you go in it is dull drab and boring. 3 real ales, Courage best, Youngs and Bombardier, 3 beers you can get anywhere, all o.k. but not excellent, no guest ale, there is nothing to make me want to go back. What a disappointment.

7 Feb 2012 18:19

The Wiremill, Lingfield

Really surprised about the adverse comments regarding service, just visited thw Wire Mill and the service was excellent, (it is November so not many people there) but they were friendly, efficient and quick. The beer was OK not brilliant, maybe it had been sitting in the pipes too long.

22 Nov 2011 21:09

The Malt Shovel, Uxbridge

Typical Vintage Inns decor and menu, which is as good as it gets for a chain pub, 3 real ales on, all in good condition. Very friendly and efficient service and a nice location by the canal. Overall a good pub but not exceptional.

25 Oct 2011 21:08

The Firecrest, Aylesbury

Yes it is a chain pub (Mitchell and Butler) but it is definitely one of the better ones. The food is varied and good and sensibly priced, it is comfortable inside and the service is efficient, you may have to wait for food but why rush. 3 real ales on, the Brakespear I was served was off, and was changed immediately I complained. Overall a good food pub serving decent real ale, meets my needs.

23 Oct 2011 22:12

Bath Arms Hotel, Cheddar

Could be great, but instead is only average, good barman poor landlord who couldn't be bothered to put another beer on when one ran out even though it was only 8.00pm.

1 Jul 2011 11:58

The Old Green Tree, Bath

A good Bath alleyway pub, quite small and pokey, and very full of tourists, but great choice of real ale in good condition served efficiently by a friendly barman.

1 Jul 2011 11:54

The Star Inn, Bath

Very good pub, old fashioned, doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is a good boozer. Good range of real ale well kept, friendly atmosphere, should be part of any crawl.

1 Jul 2011 11:52

The Salamander, Bath

A good pub but not great because it only has Bath Ales on, no guest beer on when we went there. Nothing wrong with Bath Ales but it is nice to have a change during an evening.

1 Jul 2011 11:50

The Raven, Bath

The pub is decor, interior and bar in general is nothing to shout about, but it is my favourite pub in Bath, mainly because the bar staff are excellent, the range of beers very good and the atmosphere very welcoming. There are other more interesting and quaint pubs, but The Raven is the best real ale drinkers pub.

1 Jul 2011 11:48

The Coeur de Lion, Bath

A great little Bath alleyway pub, limited range of real ale but friendly, efficient service and a bit of character made it worth the visit.

1 Jul 2011 11:44

The Windmill Inn, Portishead

I can not agree with the previous comments, but I'm not a previous customer like those who have commented.
The Windmill was clean, smart, in a great location with good views and with loads of room and tables. We were served well and pleasantly, there were, 6 real ales on and those we tasted were in good condition. Yes the obvious refurbishment means it is now a modern looking touristy pub, but with that location what else would any pubco or brewery do.

1 Jul 2011 11:40

The Polecat Inn, Prestwood

An excellent lunch venue doing good food and serving 3 real ales, it has a large garden and a lot of repeat business. Friendly, efficient and generally a great place to take friends and family.

13 May 2011 17:35

Bright Star, Luton

Lovely pub with excellent service, good real ale and decent food,(we only had sandwiches).

13 May 2011 17:29

The New Inn, Kidmore end

Someone has spent a heap of money on this pub, everything has been done well and they obviously had high expectations, unfortunately when we were in there, a wednesday evening, there were 6 customers all night. A lot of the maintenance has not been done, chipped plaster, light bulbs not working, hole in carpet, so the place is looking shabby. 2 real ales Pride and Brakspears both OK but not special, however the food was good well presented and tasty, but we could have done with some vegetables. could othe

13 May 2011 17:24

The Valiant Trooper, Aldbury

A really great pub, good real ales, we felt at home the moment we walked in, quick friendly service, a good place to spend an evening.

13 May 2011 17:19

The Greyhound, Aldbury

A locals and drinkers pub, great atmosphere, very friendly, good range of real ales.

13 May 2011 17:18

The Half Moon, Hitchin

A traditional pub doing traditional pub service very well, good range of real ales, good sevice, well worth going to.

13 May 2011 17:17

The Sunrunner, Hitchin

What a great pub, doesn't look like a pub, doesn't feel like a pub, but has great atmosphere, good service, and a great range of real ales.

13 May 2011 17:15

The George Inn, Great Missenden

What a sad place, looked unloved, and in desperate need for some smartening up and warmth put in to it. The beer was fine, the staff tried, but the place lacked charm. It has the potential to be a very good pub and restaurant, lots of old English pub beams and fires, but it just does not work at present.

3 May 2011 18:00

The Frog, Skirmett

Visited for lunch, 3 real ales on Rebellion IPA, and two Wadworths brews one "Leaping Frog" supposedly their own brew. All beers in excellent condition, but all rather bland in flavour. The food was very good, a tad expensive, but we were happy with the quality and quantity. The outstanding thing was the staff, from the landlord down they were all friendly, helpful and welcoming.

3 May 2011 17:55

The Jolly Cricketers, Seer Green

12 months on since my last visit, and my comments remain very much the same, welcoming pub with a good range of beers, but overpriced, pretentious food. Unfortunately that means I will go somewhere else in future that also does good beer and whose food is better value.

20 Apr 2011 12:34

The Whip Inn, Lacey Green

What a brilliant pub, 6 really good real ales, good sensibly priced food and a very pleasant and efficient bar maid, ticks all my boxes.

10 Mar 2011 16:28

The Sugar Loaf Inn, Little Chalfont

Two years ago this was a lively, smart gastro pub serving good fresh food, at slightly expensive prices, plenty of customers, the menu regularly changed and there were 3 real ales on.
Went in today and the place looks tired, unloved and lacking in atmosphere, only 10 people in, it has a bland plastic covered menu very average food and only one real ale on.
Was good, could be good again, but won't be if today is anything to judge it by.

22 Feb 2011 21:59

Harte and Magpies Pub, Coleshill

Renamed "Harte and Magpie", from the Mulberry Tree now a traditional pub serving 3 real ales (mainly local brews) reasonable menu mainly pub food with some "game" dishes a tad on the expensive side though.

21 Jan 2011 19:13

Hit or Miss, Amersham

Good all round pub, real ales are well kept, food OK but expensive. Very surprised at its low rating.

21 Jan 2011 19:10

The Mulberry Bush, Amersham

Renamed "Harte and Magpie", now a traditional pub serving 3 real ales (mainly local brews) reasonable menu mainly pub food with some "game" dishes a tad on the expensive side though.

21 Jan 2011 19:08

The Crown, Chalfont St Giles

Now just a restaurant.

21 Jan 2011 19:04

The Poachers, Chalfont St Peter

Now reopened after a small fire, it did not burn down as previous review suggests, it hs been renamed Chalfont Phoenix.
The previous reviews are extreme and inaccurate, the pub is not the drug den of Chalfont St Peter, it is a good sports bar that is used by people who want to watch football, who may be a bit noisy and opinionated but are no different to those in any other sports bar.

6 Dec 2010 17:18

The Fox and Hounds, Chalfont St Giles

Still the best pub in CSG, a landlord who knows his beer and how to keep it, 3 real ales, great atmosphere, interesting interior and what a real pub should be.

30 Oct 2010 16:24

The Greyhound, Chalfont St Peter

This pub appears to have settled down to being a good pub/restaurant with a welcoming friendly atmosphere. The bar is generally quite busy but if you search around there is generally somewhere to sit. 2 real ales on both a decent drink, the food is good and sensibly priced. A major improvement on what it was a few years ago.

30 Oct 2010 16:13

The Castle, Holborn

What a great pub, nothing fancy, lousy wallpaper, but great selection of real ale (8 on when we were there) we tasted 5 of them and they were all in excellent condition, very good service, and good basic pub food. Hidden away off the main road but well worth seeking out.

26 Oct 2010 17:05

The Red Lion, Amersham

Only 2 real ales on GK IPA and Ruddles County, no one in at lunch time, not even a barman, so couldn't taste them!!

28 Sep 2010 18:46

The Boot and Slipper, Amersham

3 real ales available, all in decent condition,.A large, classic chain pub food, menu, but the portions were very small for the price charged, and the food was decidely average..

28 Sep 2010 18:44

The Pheasant, Amersham

Went in at lunchtime, only 2 real ales on Adnams Broadside and GK IPA, one too strong and one no taste. Worst of all though was that they were not doing any food, it's got a large dining room but no food!!

28 Sep 2010 18:40

The Land of Liberty, Peace and Plenty, Heronsgate

Very disappointed recently to go in at lunchtime and to be told there is no food except for a pork pie or a cornish pasty, and when you order either, that is what you get, no salad garnish, no chips just a plate with a cold pork pie or a vey luke warm cornish pasty. The beer selection is still good though.

23 Aug 2010 17:04

The Green Man, Denham

Very friendly staff, good atmosphere and, surprising for a Green King pub, 2 guest ales that are not GK group beers. The food was good, sensibly priced and served quickly despite the pub being very busy.

3 Aug 2010 21:08

Dundas Arms, Kintbury

An excellent pub, great location, very attractive interior, and best of all 4 real ales all in great condition, 3 of them were different local breweries. The food was very good and the service very friendly and speedy.

16 Jun 2010 17:35

The Plough, Hyde Heath

This is a nice little village pub selling 3 different real ales, it also has a small restaurant, the food is OK but nothing to write home about and the service, particularly in the restaurant, is not very attentive.

12 Jun 2010 16:57

The Anglesea Arms, Chelsea

Typical Victorian London pub, and none the worse for that. 6 real ales on and kept in very good condition, freindly service and good food although expensive. Well worth a visit particularly for the beer.

1 Jun 2010 17:25

The Jolly Cricketers, Seer Green

A very nice pub with beers from 4 local breweries, service was good and friendly, the place was very clean and tidy and very welcoming. However, the food ist pretentous, this and that added to the descriptions so that you can increase the price. Sandwiches were served on a wooden chopping board rather than a plate, chips, about 10 of them for 2.50, (thrice cooked??) are served in a tin can, why ??

25 May 2010 21:29

The Prince of Wales, Ledbury

Brilliant pub, doesn't pretend to be anything else, good banter, very welcoming and a pleasure to be in. 6 Real ales on, a good selection from 3,8% up to 5.5% and a revolting Strawberry beer which I only had a sip of. The beers were in excellent condition, served properly and they were fairly priced. How this pub does not win Camra pub of the year is amazing.

8 May 2010 17:49

The Olde Talbot Hotel, Ledbury

What a great place. Stayed here for 2 nights, the room was spacious very clean, comfortable and quiet. The food was very good and so was the service. It's a Waddies pub so the beers were mainly Waddies, but 3 ales on and in good condition. Good atmosphere and very welcoming. Only downside no parking.

8 May 2010 17:45

The Falcon Inn, Denham

Went to the Falcon yesterday and had sandwiches in the garden (had not read the previous reviews) they were very good, came with a bit of salad and some chips. Don't know whether the management has changed or not, but it did not reflect the previous reviews in any way. The 3 real ales, Landlord, Bombardier and Brakespear were all in good condition, the Landlord particularly so. I can only say that we were very happy with our lunch, the staff and the beer and will return.

28 Apr 2010 14:04

The Green Dragon, Haddenham

Very welcoming quite smart pub. 3 real ales on, Doombar, Sussex Bitter and Rebellion Mutiny all well kept. Both a bar menu, baguettes, ploughmans, etc and a restaurant menu food was good and sensibly priced if not cheap. Bar staff were very friendly and made us feel; at home.

20 Apr 2010 18:27

The Three Horseshoes, Bourne End

Brilliant setting beside the canal and a swing bridge, old world charm and surprisingly plenty of parking space. Charlie Wells beer, the pint of Eagle I had was well kept, the food looked OK but may be a bit pricey. Overall a good pub to come out to on a warm Sunday lunchtime.

18 Apr 2010 18:36

The Greyhound, Aldbury

A very nice gastro pub serving Badger beers(all well kept) good friendly service, interesting menu, a tad expensive but not excessively pricey, good for a lunch or dinner, but it is not a village boozer.

9 Apr 2010 17:00

The Six Bells, St Albans

There were 6 real ales on, a good variety from 3.7% to 5.5%, the ones I drank were in great condition, the food was good pub grub sensibly prices and the place has atmosphere and was friendly. What more can you ask?

24 Mar 2010 15:14

Black Horse Inn, Chesham Vale

The rating does not do this pub justice. 4 real ales on all in good condition, a landlord who knows his beer, a restaurant doing very good food, plenty of character and overall an excellent country pub. No, I am not the landlord, just an irregular visitor

10 Mar 2010 15:32

Red Lyon, Slinfold

4 real ales on, 2 of them dark ales, Sussex Bitter and London Pride, about 3.05 per pint. Bar staff a bit scruffy and slightly off putting, but the food arrived quickly, was tasty and reasonably priced. The place lacked a bit of atmosphere but other than that a good local pub..

10 Mar 2010 15:22

The Feathers, Burnham

A smart interesting place that is more restaurant than pub, having said that it had 3 real ales on, Pride and 2 Rebellion beers, all in good condition. The food is slightly up market pub food which was nicely cooked and well presented. We will certainly go back.

28 Feb 2010 15:18

The Opera Tavern, Covent Garden

Can not agree with the last reviewer. Went to the pub yesterday, first time, with a group of friends, the barman (I assume landlord) was very welcoming gave us great service and so did the other staff. The beer was good, Youngs Special, Pride, Landlord, Brains S.A. and a Christmas special, we tasted all of them and they were all fine. The food was only average but overall it was a good friendly pub and we all agreed (8 of us) that we would use it again.

6 Jan 2010 15:18

The Pack Horse, Mapledurham

Really good pub, good food (served hot!) very comfortable and welcoming. 3 real ales on, I understand there are often 4, only tasted a Hobgoblin which was fine. Would recommend it.

16 Dec 2009 20:39

The Greyhound, Chalfont St Peter

Despite my last review I did go back to The Greyhound, now two real ales, Speckled Hen and Pride, both in good condition but served too cold. We ate in the restaurant and had a good meal in a good atmosphere and had a good evening.

29 Nov 2009 17:32

The Dumb Bell, Chalfont St Peter

The programme "Rogue Restaurants" was over 4 years ago and it is not fair to condemn a pub for what happened that time ago. I have just been to the Dumb Bell and was pleasantly surprised by it. The service was good there were 3 real ales available, Courage Best, Pride and Speckled Hen, the Pride was excellent. The food was good and inexpensive and the pub overall was very good. Whilst not the best pub I have ever been to it is a long, long way from the worst.
The pub has moved on so should the basis of any reviews, and no I'm not the landlord, just a punter.

22 Sep 2009 16:53

Merlins Cave, Chalfont St Giles

In a great location overlooking the village green, the inside is dated and tired, and a bit disjointed with rooms all over the place, as it has recently been bought by Gales Brewery it may be redecorated and improved. Food is sensibly priced, classic pub fare, good quantities and tasty. 3 real ales on all in decent condition.
Could be a brilliant pub rather than just average.

17 Sep 2009 17:59

The Greyhound, Chalfont St Peter

It is some time since I had been in the Greyhound, so was interested to see if it had changed. The service was OK, the beer (only one real ale Speckled Hen) was OK and the pub was comfortable and welcoming. The food was over priced for what it was but the quality was OK.
So, I guess it was an OK pub, but that is not good enough to make me use it regularly.

17 Sep 2009 17:50

The Town Wharf, Old Isleworth

A great location, comfortable pub, it's a shame there is only the usual Sam Smith's beer, if they had a guest beer I would go there more often.

17 Sep 2009 17:44

The White Horse Inn, Neatishead

Good old fashioned pub, lots of small rooms and very small bars. 3 real ales all well kept, very good food a place well worth going to.

9 Sep 2009 16:46

New Inn, Horning

Can't agree with the previous comments regarding the food, there were 14 of us visiting the pub, all our food was very acceptable. The beers were well kept and the service was efficient. This is a tourist pub serving high numbers at lunch time they do a good job and I would go back again.

9 Sep 2009 16:43

The Griffin Hotel, Attleborough

4 real ales on but unfortunately that does include Green King IPA, the others were Abbott and 2 local guest beers. The beer is well kept, the barmaid friendly, the atmosphere that of a local's drinking hole. Overall not a bad pub, but not outstanding.

9 Sep 2009 16:39

The Feathers Public House and Kitchen, Rickmansworth

What a change to this pub, the food was excellent, staff very friendly and 4 real ales all well kept. It does get a bit crowded on a Fiday night but the atmosphere is good and the place is welcoming.

9 Sep 2009 16:36

The Grapes, Limehouse

Great little pub, still as it should be not tarted up. 3 real ales on all in good condition. Food was OK a bit expensive for what was served but acceptable.

24 Jul 2009 11:06

The Happy Man, Englefield Green

A great pub not trying to be anything else. A knowledgeable barman who likes real ale, knows how to keep it and who works his socks off serving 3 customers at once. 4 real ales available all in good condition.

24 Jul 2009 11:04

The Harefield, Harefield

A very good real ale pub, nothing flashy, just a good pub doing good beer and good pub grub. Only 3 real ales on when we were there but a fourth was promised for the evening, all 3 were well kept the bar staff were friendly and the place was clean and well presented. Will use it again.

10 Jul 2009 21:49

Red Lion Hotel, Llanidloes

A very tired pub in desperate need of a refurb. The bedrooms were poor and the place is noisy.
4 real ales, 2 of which were not good, large open bars but no real attempt to be welcoming.

2 Jul 2009 12:55

The Angel Inn, Llanidloes

What a great pub, a real local's bar with 3 good real ales excellently kept and a very friendly and wecoming landlord.

2 Jul 2009 12:51

The Windsor Castle, Kensington

3 out of 4 real ales on Deuchers, Summer Lightning and Pride, T T Landlord not available, slow service and glasses not topped up. Quirky, interesting interior, interesting, historic pub but not a pub for a session.

4 Jun 2009 16:50

The Wagon and Horses, Chalfont St Peter

A great typical locals pub but why no guest beer, GK IPA and Abbott is a poor selection, one with no taste and one too strong for a session.

14 May 2009 14:55

The White Hart, Chalfont St Peter

12 months since last review and I still think this is a good pub, the real ales are fine, although the guest beer does run out quite quickly so not available every night. Lunch food is good and the atmosphere is good, you do have to wait to be served though when it is busy.

The Whip Inn, Lacey Green

Great pub, good selection of real ale, seperate dining room with good food, and the beer prices were very reasonable.

14 May 2009 14:47

The Saracens Head, Amersham

The pub was quite crowded but that did give it a good atmosphere, only Green King ales on, even the guest ales was a GK alternative. Food was excellent and sensibly priced. A great pub which could be excellent with better real ales.

28 Mar 2009 19:30

The Royal Standard, Wooburn Common

This is a brilliant pub, 10 real ales available, 5 from the hand pumps, 5 from the barrel. Good, reasonably priced food, fast service and friendly. Outside seating is limited and too close to the road but other than that it has very little against it.

23 Feb 2009 22:24

The Coal Hole, Strand

A good Nicholson's pub, 5 real ales in decent condition interesting interior and not too crowded. Service was a little slow but generally a good pub.

10 Feb 2009 17:18

The Edgar Wallace, Temple

What a find, 8 real ales on, all (that I tasted) in good condition, friendly staff good basic food and a relaxed atmosphere. A must to visit.

10 Feb 2009 17:16

The Red Lion, Little Missenden

This pub is now open again after being devastated by fire.

25 Jan 2009 13:05

The Red Lion, Amersham

This is a great, little village, pub the centre of all that happens in the village, friendly staff, good beers, 3 real ales, reasonable, typical pub food, all that you could ask for from a country pub. Well worth a visit.

25 Jan 2009 13:03

Packhorse, Gerrards Cross

Now reopened as "Wildwood" more a restaurant than a pub, no real ales.

Food is good, mainly Italian styled, beers all bottled and expensive. As a pub useless, as a restaurant reasonable.

12 Jan 2009 12:13

Derehams Inn, Loudwater

Absolutely brilliant traditional pub! Good real ales, well kept, at least 4 on tap, including Loddens, Pride, Bombardier, friendly staff very comfortable, a real find will return!

12 Jan 2009 12:10

The Jolly Cricketers, Seer Green

This is now a really excellent pub, friendly, warm and welcoming, a few years ago it was a dump what a difference a new landlord makes. The food is home cooked and very good although, inevitably, you have to wait for it. The only problem is that with no real opposition in Seer Green it gets crowded.

12 Jan 2009 11:32

Black Horse, Fulmer

It's about 5 years since I last came here, what a disappointment, the decor looks tired, the carpet dirty, tables chipped and the food very average. The staff were helpful and the place busy but it was not the pub it was.

2 Jan 2009 18:08

The Old Fountain, Old Street

What a joy this pub is, good real ales, good food and all reasonably priced. The outside does not sell it but the inside is welcoming and friendly, well worth visiting.

30 Dec 2008 16:36

The Pontefract Castle, Marylebone

Classic Nicholsons, having said that it was very good, 4 of the 5 real ales on, unfortunately not Landlord, very cheerful staff, adequate typical Nicholson's food, warm and friendly pub, and a welcome rest for the odd hour.

30 Dec 2008 16:33

The Golden Eagle, Bond Street

3 real ales on all in good condition, pub clean and shiney, but doesn't it lack atmosphere, a welcome from the landlord and a smile would help, so would the chance to get some food at lunchtime.

30 Dec 2008 16:30

The Three Oaks, Chalfont St Peter

Revisited this pub and I have to say I'm impressed, it is clean, bright, cheerful and smart, however, it does lack warmth and that comfortable pub feel. The beers are very good, T.T. Landlord, London Pride, and local ale Rebellion IPA were all on and well kept. The food looked good but, I thought, a bit pricey.I definitely think the new owners have substantially improved the place and made it an assett to the locality.

23 Dec 2008 18:43

The Blackwood Arms, Littleworth Common

A Brakspear pub selling their basic range, no guest beer, inside it is rather bland, but it has a great garden and is in a good location. The food is OK but over priced and the service is slow, it is understaffed at weekends when busy.

17 Sep 2008 21:19

The Plough Inn, Winchmore Hill

Visited The Plough with friends recently, excellent atmosphere in the bar and really friendly staff, 3 real ales on all in good condition. We went into the restaurant for a meal and were pleased with the interesting menu, the food was good but rather pricey for the quality.

5 May 2008 18:49

The Village Hall, Chalfont St Peter

Could be brilliant but somehow just misses the mark, there is a lack of atmosphere about the place, it looks like a beach hut! They keep the beer well and generally there are 3 real ales on, but often you have to wait to be served whilst they deal with the restaurant side, the whole place lacks good manqagement.

3 Mar 2008 21:29

The White Hart, Chalfont St Peter

Now that there is "No Smoking" this pub is even nicer, the low ceiling made the atmosphere a bit dense previously. There are generally 3 real ales on one of which is a guest ale, the others were Tribute and Pride. Generally kept well but occassionaly you get a poor one (that's real ale for you). This is the best pub in CSP full of atmosphere and charm.

3 Mar 2008 21:25

The Fox and Hounds, Chalfont St Giles

Went back last week for a meal with 8 other friends, the food was excellent, we each chose something different from the menu, not by design, and it wa all served beautifully cooked. The landlady does the cooking and it is all fresh produce not boil in a bag, don't know how she managed it there were at least 6 other tables also being served. It is slightly up market good pub food (not gastro pub and not gastro pub prices!)The beer as ever was very well kept 3 real ales, we will be back.

3 Mar 2008 21:20

The Plough, Amersham

Great pub, doing at least 3 real ales, good pub food and has a small restaurant. Visited it about 8 times and I've always been made to feel welcome and I've never had a bad beer.

15 Feb 2008 16:40

The Three Oaks, Chalfont St Peter

Under new management yet again and has been revamped into a gastropub, now very expensive, but still serves some real ale.

27 Dec 2007 22:00

The Red Lion, Chenies

Really good traditional pub, 4 real ales, very well kept, excellent food, good atmosphere and friendly staff.

16 Nov 2006 22:00

The Greyhound, Chalfont St Peter

A pub that has lost its way, the management do not know whether they want it to be a restaurant, a hotel or a local pub, the reality is, it is not successful as any of them. Beer is OK, food is variable, atmosphere is variable, service is variable.

16 Nov 2006 21:57

Swan, Chesham

Great pub with many real ales that are well kept, a friendly cosy atmosphere and bags of character. Excellent food, although a bit pricey, but well prepared and presented so well worth a visit.

16 Nov 2006 21:49

The Fox and Hounds, Chalfont St Giles

A great little pub, one of the oldest in the village with a landlord who understands his beer, Adnams, Spitfire and Black Sheep available. No music, no slot machines, good service and good food.

16 Nov 2006 21:46

The Three Oaks, Chalfont St Peter

Under new management yet again, now quiet and accessable but only London Pride and Courage Best on tap.

16 Nov 2006 21:38

The Wagon and Horses, Chalfont St Peter

Small and smokey, limited range of beer, and tends to be crowded. Could be good but needs to wided beer from Green King IPA and Abbot.

6 Sep 2006 21:21

The Village Hall, Chalfont St Peter

The new management have made a real effort but unfortunately the open plan bar means you do not know whether you are in a pub or a restaurant. Good range of beer and you feel welcome.

6 Sep 2006 21:18

The Three Oaks, Chalfont St Peter

Has improved a lot under the new management, the beer is kept well and the place is now clean! Unfortunately you can not get to the bar to order a beer!

6 Sep 2006 21:15

The Greyhound, Chalfont St Peter

Expensive, poor range of beer and steadily going down market.

6 Sep 2006 21:14

The George, Chalfont St Peter

This pub is closed and has been for 5 years.

6 Sep 2006 21:13

The Land of Liberty, Peace and Plenty, Heronsgate

A brilliant real ale pub, knowledgeable landlord, well kept beer, 6 real ales, good food and a comfortable traditional atmosphere. Wish it was more local!

5 Sep 2006 15:35

The White Hart, Chalfont St Peter

Was an excellent pub with a knowledgeable landlady, recently there has only been bar staff there and the quality of beer has slipped and the attitude to customers has deteriorated. Would love it to come back to its previous standard.

5 Sep 2006 15:31

The Fox and Hounds, Chalfont St Giles

A good locals pub, the landlord knows his beers and keeps them well. Currently Spifire, Adnams and Flowers IPA (weak)available, the food is OK and at the banter is good.
