The Ferry Inn, Brough

A report on this pub is well overdue for an update. The current managers have turned the Ferry into a decent pub serving some of the best food in the area, and although the range of beers is limited, the cask ales are well looked after.

The Green Dragon, Welton

Furniture now recovered so the interior looks much better. Restaurant still very good quality, and prices have not gone up as much as other nearby hostelries, so my rating goes up a point!

The Green Dragon, Welton

Very old coaching in with a lot of history (Dick Turpin was arrested here). Always has 2 or 3 well kept real ales on offer, and has a good restaurant with an excellent menu and range of wines.

It was renovated a few years ago so is now a mixture of old beams and industrial chic which somehow seems to work. The upholstery on some of the sofas looks a bit tatty now (why use leathercloth rather than leather - the price is not much different?) Well worth a trip out, and close to some good country walks if you're that way inclined.

Fox & Coney Inn, South Cave

Back in business again under the stewardship of Mike who used to run it when it was a popular locals pub. Glad to hear he will be having live music nights again. I will call in soon and report back on the beer.

The Half Moon, Elloughton

Traditional old road house type of pub with an excellent reputation for food. Good wine list as well - available by the glass. It's now a regular drop in for us - dinner and a pint or two of Landlord is a pleasant and not too expensive evening out. Recommended.

Red Hawk, Brough

Jennings bitter for 2.05 a pint. Food available - good quality and portions, prices very reasonable Sport on 2 screens, but plenty of family friendly space away from the sport. Staff friendly and helpful .
Atmosphere alittle lacking, but there's not much more you can ask from a small town pub next to a supermarket. Get's my vote for an occasional family meal or a pint and a football game.

The Roos Arms, Roos

My last review of this village pub was in 2004, when I was impressed with the food and real ale available. On my recent visit in June I was pleasantly surprised to find that the pub has been taken over by Ken Wagstaffe and his other half who have refurbished the bar and reduced prices for food! Ken is a Hull City hero from what was until very recently the most successful Hull City side to date. He is now an experienced, affable landlord witha quirky sense of humour, who doesn't mind talking to old stagers like me about past glories. I imagine when the word gets out a few more fans may be beating a path to his door. (While we were there a couple turned up who remembered Ken from his Mansfield days - even before Hull City). I'll be back when next in England - just make sure the Abbott ale is on tap - and maybe another real ale wouldn't go amiss?

The Kings Arms, Waterloo

Excellent London pub, serving good beer consistently over the many years I have travelled through Waterloo. Just far enough away from the station to retain some soul. Can get crowded on Thursday/Friday evening, but the staff can cope.

The Manor, Old Malden

My one acquaintance with this pub was a little strange. We bought a Guiness as nothing else palatable was on offer, when the door slammed open, someone rode into the bar on a mountain bike, rode up the stairs to the pool table area, round the tables, back down the stairs and out again. No-one else seemed to think this was unusual. We left shortly afterwards.

Ronnie's, New Malden

Went for a quick drink after picking the wife up from the station across the road. Combination of service at the table, good cheap wine, real ale (only one unfortunately)and reasonably priced good food made us stay a lot longer than intended. Will be back again.
