The Willeymoor Lock Tavern, Tushingham
First visit here today. Pub is decorated with a large collection of novelty teapots and Toby jugs. Not really sure what to make of this place. Beer quality of the two I sampled was not as good as it could have been. Friendly staff, food looked good and generous portions.

First visit here today. Offbeat wild blackberry mild sampled and found to be in superb condition. Extremely friendly landlord and dogs. Holding a classic car show in July. Well worth quick detour from the A41.
1 Jun 2013 18:05
First visit here yesterday. Three beers appeared to be on including one from Brewsters. Lunch was good, but identikit veg let it down, peas and sweetcorn do not make good bed-fellows with Topside of beef. Lovely sunny day with lots of people sitting outside, dieselgala at the GCR made a nostaglic background sound, much preferable to the pop musice being played at too high a volume in the pub itself. SImply no need for music like that when your pub is full and buzzing with conversation.

The Post Office Vaults, Birmingham
Popped in on Wednesday lunchtime during my tour of Brum. Pub was quiet, as per some of the others on my circuit. Three ales sampled , all in good condition.
17 May 2013 11:52
Visited Wednesday lunchtime, good range of ales available as usual, pub very quiet. Beer Festival that usually happens over Whit Bank holiday weekend has been put back until later in the year.
17 May 2013 11:45
Pub is in the middle of a major building project to create a new upstairs bar area, causing some access difficulties. Beer range is reduced by 3 ales during the refurb, sampled two ales , both in good condition
17 May 2013 11:27
First visit for me here on Wednesday. The pub has been really well done out. 3 Black Country Ales plus 6 guests. Three beers tried, all in good condition.
17 May 2013 11:25
The Mytton and Mermaid, Atcham
First visit here last Friday. Offa's Dyke beer available on the bar. Parts of the venue were being used exclusively by a wedding party, looking at previous posts this looks to be the norm here. Good friendly service, but definitely a hotel, not a pub, but plenty of areas to have a drink, rather than a meal.
14 May 2013 15:39
First visit here today. Three real ales on, Purity, Fullers & Marstons stable. Food very good, busy , even on a wet mid-week lunchtime. Very good service from the young staff. next to Stratford canal.
14 May 2013 15:32
First visit here yesterday. Two real ales on (Hook Norton,St Austell Trbute), plus a real cider on hand pull. Short menu, plus specials board, plenty of wines by the glass. Food was very well cooked. Friendly helpful staff. Room for vertical drinking at one end of the bar.
14 May 2013 15:27
Popped in on a Friday afternoon recently, good range of ales in great condition available as usual. Beer festival 1st week in July, more than likely to be the last one here, so well worth making the effort to attend if possible.
8 May 2013 13:17
Will be jointly hosting a beer festival over the May Bank Holiday weekend. Hopefully the selection of beers will be much more inspiring than the ones at the last fest in November 2012.
8 May 2013 09:27
Will be hosting a joint beer festival with the Fighting Cock's over the May Bank Holiday weekend. If it is as good as the last one it will be well worth attending
8 May 2013 09:25
First visit here yesterday afternoon. Pub is in a great location next to the canal and the river Weaver runs through the grounds. Quite a tight turn off the road and then over a small wooden bridge into the carpark. A range of Robinson's ales was available. Very friendly staff. Food looked good.
18 Apr 2013 08:53
First visit here yesterday for lunch. A range of 6 cask ales were available, a Lancaster and a Beartown were sampled and found to be in good condition. Food was good, but as has been mentioned previously everything we ordered arrived on wooden boards, which does cause some degree of fall out onto the table.
18 Apr 2013 08:49
Popped in on Saturday morning , pubs was busy as always, beers where from larger micros's, struggled to find anything interesting.
15 Apr 2013 10:07
Visited for a family celebration last night for the fist time in about 18 months. Two ales available from the Marstons stable, Hobgoblin was perfectly acceptable. Good food was sampled by our group. Ttable layout was a bit cramped and caused a few issues with people trying to get to the toilets.
Could do with a bit of a make over as it is looking a bit tired inside, fish tank needs a clean out as well
9 Mar 2013 12:06
Visited for the 1st time yesterday. Definetely more of a restaurant than a pub. The Sunday lunch was very good and there appeared to be enough waiting staff when we where there ( arrived 14:30), may have been busier earlier. There is a light and airy bar area if you just want a pint, lots of smaller eating areas. Toilets are up quite a steep staircase, the star carpet looked quite out of step with the rest of the decor
4 Mar 2013 09:23
Visited for the 1st time yesterday. 4 Beers available, Greed KerChing, Tim Taylors, Morland, and Purity. There is a small food shop located in the carpark. Sandwich was excellent. Seperate dining area at one end and a raised seating area at the other. Hot food looked good and the portions large. Seemed a good honest pub that is not trying to be gastro.
27 Feb 2013 15:32
Introducing hot food on a Monday night complement the Wednesday night curry. Expect burgers, ribs etc. Beer quality is still excellent.
25 Feb 2013 14:01
First visit for me last week. A large Fitzgeralds pub next to the High Level Bridge. Good views of the river from rear windows. Beer quality very good. Has live music in an upstairs room
28 Jan 2013 21:02
Beer quality excellent, but beer range to me seems a little less adventurous than it once was.
28 Jan 2013 20:58
Superb interior. Beer range is wide and quality is good. Often shows football on TV's around the walls. Cash machine. Close to Tyne theatre
28 Jan 2013 20:56
Just about as good as it gets..excellent beer selection and superb quality. My favourite of a large range of quality beer pubs in Newcastle. Always on my list whenever I get the chance to be in the area. Cellar runs available if time permits. Has been local CAMRA pub of the year for the last 4 years, and it is easy to see why!
28 Jan 2013 20:50
Visited again last Friday. A good selection of well kept ales was available. Curry selection was not as good as normal, nothing "spicy" was available, I assume that this was a hangover from Christmas and the time was not available to make the curries.
7 Jan 2013 09:30
Visited just before Christmas for office lunch. Tried the Wychwood Bah Humbug which was in good condition. Xmas luch was good quality and good value ( £15.95) for three courses. Service was friendly. Crossing to and from the carpark (which is on the otherside of the road) can be awkward as it is difficult to see traffic approaching due to road bends.
4 Jan 2013 10:03
Visited for lunch on New Year's Day. Pub was busy with all tables booked and people being quoted an hrs wait for a table. Beer quality was excellent ( Salopian Firkin Freezin'). Food was also really good, Mrs PBH really enjoyed the Salmon Quiche, service was effiecient and freindly.
2 Jan 2013 09:55
Visited for the 1st time today. Beers on offer were all Greene King and so I did not try them. Food was really good and great price. Serving staff extremely helpful. Would go back when in Bakewell.
19 Dec 2012 19:03
Visited for the second time this year, last weekend. Beers were all from the Marstons portfolio, there is evidence of other guest beers that have been available, but I have not seen any eveidence of them on the bar in my two visits this year. This may be a hang-over from a previous guest beer policy. Beer quality was perfectly acceptable.
Food was cheap and filling.
For a pub that promises a lot from the outside, the inside is a bit bland.
There were problems with both the gents and ladies toilets, (broken urinals and a lack of functional door locks and loo rolls).
17 Dec 2012 08:50
Having been spoint by the quality of the beers in the Station fest I ventured over the road. I scanned the beer board for interesting ales and found none. A half of something non descript was aquired and quickly despatched before moving on.
30 Nov 2012 09:29
First time I have ever been disapointed by this pub. No real effort had been made to source new or interesting beers for their half of the joint festival with the Station down the road. An opportunity wasted to put on a display to equal the amazing range at the Station.
30 Nov 2012 08:54
WOW!!, attended the opening day of the Winter Beer festival yesterday, I can honestly say that this was the most impresive gathering of new beers/ breweries ever in Oakengates. All beers were in great condition, pub was busy all afternoon with people attending from far and wide to sample the impresive display of ales.
30 Nov 2012 08:52
Visited for the 1st time on Saturday afternoon. I can see why this pub is the current Bristol CAMRA pub of the year. Excellent range of Arbor Ales plus a couple of guests. Four craft keg ales also available. Just shows what can be done to turn round a pub with the right management and great beer.
21 Nov 2012 10:45
Visited for the 1st time on Saturday. Does not look anything special from the outside, but once inside it is fine. Very friendly barstaff. CAMRA discounts available to card carrying members. Good range of ales available. Visiting Blackpool football fans were enjoying the quality ales pre-match.
21 Nov 2012 10:39
Called in on Saturday lunchtime, place was very busy with football fans watching the Arsenal v Tottenham game on the big screens. Full range of Fullers beers available. Not the place for a quiet pint
21 Nov 2012 10:35
One of the 1st Wetherspoon's pubs I ever visited back in the 1990's. Beer range was good with a few beers left from the Beer Festival and the 1st of the Christmas beers appearing. Beer quality was good.
21 Nov 2012 10:31
Called in to attend the "Bellowhead" afterparty on Saturday night. Place was literally packed to the rafters with Bellowhead fans and bemused drinkers, enjoying a great time. Butcombe Adam Hanson Rare Breed and Bristo Beer Factory Sunrise were sampled and where in good condition.
21 Nov 2012 10:29
Visited for the 1st time on Saturday since it re-opened. It was just as I remember it. Decent range of ales available and L.P's being played.
21 Nov 2012 10:25
Visited for the 1st time last weekend. Definately more a cafe than a bar during the afternoon when we visited. Very reasonably priced tea / coffee. One real ale available and a range of wines / cocktails etc.
21 Nov 2012 10:22
1st visit here since the previous long standing manager has gone. Everything seemed in order from my previous visits. two ales from Liverpool Organic, 1 Acorn and 1 Lymestone were sampled, all in excellent condition.
16 Nov 2012 10:06
Now owned by Joules Brewery. We tried to visit on our Chester tour yesterday, but pub was not opening unti, 5 P.M.
7 Nov 2012 09:44
Had two of their own brewed beers on yesterday lunchtime when we visited. Both were in good condition. Has won a CAMRA Award for its strong ale ( Matador), but this one was not on yesterday. Food was good quality and reasonable value.
7 Nov 2012 09:38
Ancient Hall that has been converted sympathetically into a light and airy bar. Two Spitting Feathers beers available with a range of guest ales. Idle Dog was in good condition.
6 Nov 2012 17:02
Interesting range of ales in light and friendly surroundings
6 Nov 2012 16:58
A pub to visit more for the decor than the range of ales. The Robinsons Best was in good for this lunchtime. Friendly landlady and pub cats. Lots of WW 1 memorabilia everywhere.
6 Nov 2012 16:56
OBB was on good form this lunchtime, and very reasonably priced.
6 Nov 2012 16:52
The Swan With Two Nicks, Little Bollington
Visited for the first time this afternoon. Really busy with car parking at a premium. Food looked good, and served in large portions. Two Dunham Massey ales available, both in good condition.
4 Nov 2012 19:50
Will be jointly hosting a Winter Beer festival at the end of November, to feature 60 real ales, all on handpump.
29 Oct 2012 09:49
Joint host with the Station of the Oakengates Winter Beer Festival at the end of November, to feature 60 beers on handpull.
29 Oct 2012 09:48
Still delivering the goods, this pub has been a beacon of interesting beers in Birmingham for many years. The new Juke Box seems to have necessitated a move of the beer board to the other side of the pub, which threw me for a second.
29 Oct 2012 09:44
Visited after Birmingham Beer festival. "Rock and Roll Brewery" located on the roof here is now in full production. The pub featured 4 of their beers plus the usual Stanway and a guest. Had a good conversation with the R&R brewer, who informed me that R&R refers to rhyming with "the dole".
29 Oct 2012 09:40
The Post Office Vaults, Birmingham
Visited after Birmingham Beer Festival. STill a really great place. Interesting selection of ales in good condition.
29 Oct 2012 09:37
The Screes Inn, Nether Wasdale
Junin.....I think the Screes has been a Robinsons tennacy since the time that they bought out Hartley's Brewery in the 1982.
23 Oct 2012 15:56
Was bought by Brunning and Price pub group a while ago. Has been undergoing a huge refurbishment, and the building of a 1st floor sun-deck for the summer. Re-opens next Tuesday (23rd October), should be a great asset to the gorge.
19 Oct 2012 11:16
mmmm, visited this evening...... No real ale available...we were the only people in there.......freehold is for sale and it feels like it is just struggling along until it's sold. Little to recommend a visit until ownership changes and things hopefully improve
18 Oct 2012 20:41
Visited again this afternoon, really good to see it busy mid-afternoon on a Sunday. One McGivern beer on (Decipher). Beer quality good, except for Orme Best, which tasted like it had a brewery fault, rather than cellermanship.
14 Oct 2012 18:40
Pub currently on the market as the landlord is retiring..hope whoever takes it on is as good at choosing and keeping the beer.
13 Oct 2012 15:19
1st time visit yesterday. Felt like a bit of a hybrid, part pub, part sports bar and part louge. Beer range was excellent, with a beer from the new Shrosphire Brewery DIckensian on the bar, the three ales I tried were all in very good condition. Looked like a decent range of Belgian / foreign beers, but mostly safe choices. Draught ciders perries available from the cellar. Leather settees, and high-stools and tables dotted around, but plenty of room around the bar for verticle drinking.
10 Oct 2012 09:49
First visit here today. Three cask ales on and a half dozen foreign. Bottle fridge full of interesting items. Could easily settle in for a session of some magnitude. Tried bottle of Kernal Stour.
6 Oct 2012 22:26
Visited after popping into the Crown non-beer festival over the road. Good range of beers available and excellent quality.
5 Oct 2012 08:35
Visited after a very brief stop at the Crown non-beer festival over the road. Pub is still doing the business beer wise, excellent quality and range.
5 Oct 2012 08:34
Popped into the Crown yesterday as it was holding the 33rd Telford Beer Festival in conjunction with its sister pub, the Elephant and Castle in Dawley. To be honest I could not tell that it was a beer festival, beers were only available through the pumps on the normal bar, the usual additonal pulls and the temporary bar were absent. There were no beers lsts that I could see, so I am not sure if any were produced, or if cellar runs were available during the day. There appeared to be only one beer that could possibly be described as unusual (Worsthorne Chestnut Mare) quality seems good. Not sure if all the rare stuff had gone, or if there was no rare stuff to begin with. Anyway didn't linger.
5 Oct 2012 08:30
Excellent range of real ales from far and wide available, including beers brewed exclusivly for the pub. Freindly locals. Beautful setting in the village. Has to be on any visitors list of must do pubs in Cornwall
28 Aug 2012 12:51
Very welcoming inn on the old road ( Brown Signed from A30). Excellent Sunday lunch at a very reasonable price. Local West Country ales were available.
28 Aug 2012 12:49
The Feathers at Brockton, Brockton
Food orientated roadside inn near Much Wenlock.Mostly laid out for dining there is a small bar area with two local real ales available. Decorated in a 'shabby chic' style. The conservatory to the rear has been turned into a shop selling similar artifacts. Home made bead provided with food orders. Food was served in genrous portions and well cooked. One size fits all vegetables could be an issue depending on choice of main course.
28 Aug 2012 12:04
The Hare and Hounds, Oakengates
Refurbishment completed and pub re-opened. Lots of food offers seem to be available.
9 Jul 2012 11:37
Visited during the Summer Beer Festival. Good range of beers available and all in very good condition. Curries still excellent. 2 deposit on beer glasses during the festival, but will serve into your own glass if it is correctly lined and stamped. Marquee set up outside for the Festival gives additional seating even in bad weather, or if waiting for them to open.
9 Jul 2012 11:05
Popped in after visiting the Station Beer Festival next door....as good as always.
1 Jun 2012 20:37
Now then....this is more like it...spent an afternoon here catching the annual May Day Bank Holiday Beer Festival..great stuff..no make weights like Northumberland or Cottage..just a great selection of Yorkshire beer served in excellent condition..nuff said...go if you have the chance
1 Jun 2012 20:35
The Hare and Hounds, Oakengates
It appears I was being a bit hasty with my last post. Now appears that pub is closed for refurbishment. Developments awaited.
23 May 2012 11:54
Visited for the 1st time last weekend. They had two of their own brewed McGiverns Ales on tap. Both home brews were very good quality. Very friendly staff . Loads of Beer clips from a wide range of breweries adorn the walls and ceilings. Current CAMRA National Pub of the Year. Handy for Ruabon Station.
23 May 2012 11:48
The Post Office Vaults, Birmingham
Visited for the 1st time this week. Superb selection of bottled beers ( 265+), 14 draught ciders and 8 Real ales. Jointly owned by Nigel Barker from the Wellington. No food , but you can take your own in. Belgian and other foreign beer artifacts around the room. Approached from either New Street ( next to Greggs) or more obviously from Pinfold Street. Hobsons Mild and Salopian Oracle are permanents other 6 beers from far and near. Didn't see a draught beer list obviously displayed, and with the bar area being quite small and with the numbers of people around it, it can be difficult to see what real ales are on tap and their strengths. This is a real bonus to the Birmingham city centre beer scene and complements the Welly and the Anchor. If you have a spare 300 you can buy an 8 litre bottle of Belgian beer for you and a few of your mates to share.
23 May 2012 10:53
The Elephant And Castle, Dawley
Well....this pub could have been soo right..but it is flawed. A commendable and brave choice to feature locAles. But the serving of them has to be spot on..as any knowledgeable local will have tasted many of them elsewhere. Pricing policy..as with owners Oakengates pub seems to be one of higher prices keep away the sort of people who are looking for a cheap pint of anything, rather than real ales, only time will tell if this is sound business decision.
13 May 2012 11:36
Located away from the main real ale epicentre of Oakengates. No real ale to be seen, Karaoke etc suggests that this is not one for the good beer enthusiast
2 May 2012 16:09
Appears to have changed ownership. Salopian Brewery beer now features. Half of the handpulls were empty, not sure if this is standard now,, not many customers to be seen. Beer quality was fine
2 May 2012 16:07
Visited during the Crown Festival last weekend. Three of the six guest ales were interesting. Pub is holding a blind tasting of Milds in order to find a replacement for the now defunct Ansells Mild that it had been selling. Taunting Board had plenty of interesting ales for the future, some probably available this weekend during the second half of the Crown Fest double weekend.
2 May 2012 16:04
Popped in during the Crown Festival last weekend. Pub had just finished a Rail Ale Beer Festival. Ironbridge RAT Fest Special beer was still available. Ber quality was excellent.
2 May 2012 16:00
Popped in last weekend for the May beer festival. Beer quality was excellent, but no cellar runs available, not sure if this facility has now ceased. Beer range was moderate, with the usual suspects in Northumberland, etc, rather than brand new breweries.
1 May 2012 17:02
The Hare and Hounds, Oakengates
CLosed again and boarded up. The hot rock menu did not save them

The Cholmondeley Arms, Malpas
First visit here today. Pub has been converted from an old schoolhouse, ad retains a school theme, e.g. Toilets are boys and girls, notices written on old blackboards etc. Food was excellent. Large selection of gins stocked, various sampling sessions available. You could just visit here for a drink as thee is suitable seating available, but it would not be a pub for fertile drinking next to the bar.Large modern fire arrangement splits the main room into two. Friendly helpful staff.
