Moonbow Jakes, Brockley

This no longer exists in this format. Now a cafe called The Brockley Mess; I'm not sure if it has an alcohol license or not but its a decent cafe.

Gatehouse, Chichester

Wall to wall clunge on a Saturday night. A perverts paradise because of the stairs and see through walkway. Amazing

The Ravensbourne Arms, Lewisham

I've only been to the coach and horses a couple of times and that has always been to watch boxing. Although on first appearances the pub does have a slight air of menace to it I think it is actually not that bad.

Admittedly I did get trapped in conversation with someone who said he was considering taking up drug dealing as his next career move and the landlord looks like he could kill you with his little finger but I didn't actually feel unsafe.

Beer was ok but I'm no expert and they had an amazing range of multicoloured spirits behind the bar which is staffed with amiable barmaids - just don't put your drink too near to the till...

It's obvious that plenty of people in the pub know each other pretty well and are fairly matey. So I'd echo the previous comment about the regulars being ok beneath the slightly intimidating South London veneer.

I'll keep going back to watch the boxing.

The Norfolk Arms, Steyning

We went for a drink here on Saturday and it was great. Yes it is a local's pub but they were all friendly and the guy behind the bar was very chatty. As I understood things the landlord/landlady have just bought the pub from Punch Taverns and everyone was delighted for them.

The Harvey's was nice.

The Montague Arms, New Cross

We went there for Sunday lunch and it was really very good. 6.50 for roast beef and all the trimmings with desert (Apple Strudel) included in the cost.

I hadn't been in before and had always assumed that it was the sort of pub you might get killed in. How wrong I was, coach parties should definitely stop here if they can find somewhere to park!

The Amersham Arms, New Cross

Have visited the Amersham Arms three times in the last couple of months and enjoyed all of my visits. They have pub quizzes that are good fun, excellent food which is relatively cheap (I had a burger and chips which was the best I have had in a pub for 5.50), a reasonable choice of beer provided you like lager (only two ales), lots of eclectic live music in the evenings (electrogrime?) and lots of students who think you are ancient when you are 26 :-(

The Surrey Docks, Surrey Quays

I think that some of the reviewers have been a bit harsh towards the Surrey Docks. Its not that bad, there is usually a good choice of unusual beers, the clientele are generally ok. I haven't seen any fights and no one has ever given me any grief. Food is obviously your typical Wetherspoon's fare not very good but then it won't kill you either. Atmosphere is not exactly a strong point but at least it isn't threatening. If you just want to go for a drink and a chat with a mate I think you could do worse.

The Prince Albert, Greenwich

I really enjoy paying a visit to this pub, usually to watch the football it has to be said.

Staff are friendly, beer is good and it always seems to have the same people in there whenever I go in who all know each other which makes for a friendly atmosphere.

The Greenwich Union, Greenwich

Nice pub, quite different to the other pubs on Royal Hill with interesting beers.

As for all of this inverted snobbery - get a life. If a pub having too many middle class people in it is enough to put you off you must have something seriously wrong with you. Live and let live.
