Archee's Bar and Restaurant, Woking

Went on a Saturday night after eating at Bar-celona down the road - had time for a bottle of Becks and then, just gone midnight, the brash landlord refused to serve our group of six even though we were perfectly well behaved and he's licensed till 1.00am. He was rude to my missus after she asked a civil question about the cash machine. Place was empty. The average punter is probably put off by this landlord who acted like he was fed up with the responsibility of running the place. I wouldn't bother considering Archees again.

The Rock Inn, Georgeham

Visited Saturday lunchtime to find the pub was not too crowded. Real ales included Betty Stogs (very good), Tribute and Timothy Taylor which we consumed outside at the new patio tables. Did not eat as still full from The Thatch breakfast, however other people's meals looked appetising. The only downside was one of our party, who arrived early, being told he had to move from his chosen bar stool because the landlord's Dad would be arriving soon and it was his seat.... (there's someone sitting there, mate!). Suffice to say this did not spoil the visit, locals will have their foibles.

Manor House Inn, Croyde

Nice Tribute and Doombar. There is a large room to the rear where you can watch the footy with your mates without fear of upsetting other clientele. Staff welcoming and efficient.

The Thatch, Croyde

Returned again for a weekend stay, two nights B&B good value at 50 per twin room per night and the breakfast fills you up until evening. The Tribute and Dartmoor were good, as usual. Lively atmosphere with the surfing crowd but obviously gets very busy Fri/Sat/Sun however the staff are great at ensuring prompt service.

The Brookwood, Woking

The refurb hasn't happened.... must be down to the current economic climate.

The Three Horseshoes, Bighton

In the tiny village of Bighton - there are not many small village pubs like this left. Stocked two ales from Palmers of Bridport Dorset, quite a distance to travel however the Copper Ale (3.7%) was really tasty for a 'session' bitter - I didn't try the Palmers 200 (5%) however the friendly and helpful landlady said she was enjoying a nice half. Lunch menu was varied and reasonably priced, I chose the home-cooked ham, egg and chips which came in a good portion and was consumed in the garden, sheltered from the warm sunshine under a bench umbrella. Recommended.

Chequers, Alresford

Drove past on bank holiday 25th May with a view to lunch and a pint, unfortunately the pub has closed. There is a notice with regrets on the front door thanking the regulars for their support over the years. Went to the Three Horseshoes at Bighton instead.

The Winchfield Inn, Winchfield

Visitied Thursday evening with a few mates, we had a very good pint of Ringwood Fortyniner (4.9%) as well as locally brewed (North Warnborough) Andwell King John at 4.2%. Food served, with reasonably priced menu although we were only there for the beer. Top-rated barmaid (Claire).

The Brookwood, Woking

After shutting in early January, the pub is now open under new management (Nick from the Rowbarge, St. Johns). Currently serving a decent pint of London Pride also Spitfire. Will be closing for refurbishment towards the end of February for two weeks, then re-opens and re-named The Station House, with food including carvery.

The Brewers Arms, Lewes

Few pints and lunch before going to The Dripping Pan. Harveys very well kept and lunch excellent value with really good service. Perfect for a Saturday lunchtime, a proper town pub.

The Hop Blossom, Farnham

Few pints with some mates on a Friday evening, we were all on Pride which was excellent. A little crowded but didn't seem to hamper the good service.
