The Blacksmith's Arms, Plymtree

Really friendy local. Good beer, good staff, lovely fire everything a village local should be.

The Cock, Ide Hill

Now being managed by the same chap that runs the General Wolfe in Westerham (for Green King). Hope he makes as much of a success of this one. First impressions, friendly staff, good old-fashioned interior with big open fire, beer (standard GK fare, IPA and Abbott) was not great, but early days.

The Fox and Hounds, Biggin Hill

Now reopened (a month late). Beer range is not bad (Fullers London Pride & Lancers and Youngs Best). Quite cosy with 3 open fires and lots of squashy armchairs. Staff seem friendly and efficient. If "Enjoy a pint" goes back they may be pleasantly surprised by the clientele as well!

Bull Inn, Brasted

Unfortunately, as I understand, Shepherd Neame are refusing to include the garden or car park in the sale of this Pub. Westerham Brewery were interested, but not in a pub on a main road with no car park. Could it be that SN just want the council to agree to change of use to residential, so that they can sell it for housing?

The Stanhope Arms, Brasted

Overall quite impressed with the revamp. Garden is indeed lovely, and the beer (Green King) was fine. Pity we had to ask to be served while one barmaid(?) just stood chatting to a customer, despite looking straight at us several times.

Locks Inn, Geldeston

Amazing place, well worth finding (much easier by boat or on foot than by car). Good beer, excellent food and service. Real country Pub gem.

The Trowel and Hammer, Lowestoft

Nice enough Pub, pity the locals sit all round the bar then look annoyed if you work your way between them to get served.

The Jolly Sailors, Pakefield

Open again now (April 2011). Good range of Adnams beer and good value food. More of a tourist Pub than the Trowel and Hammer.

The Dog and Partridge, Tosside

Well worth visiting. Good local beers (inclding "Ewe Tosser") good value bar snacks and comfortable surroundings.

The Boars Head, Long Preston

Much better than other reviews led me to expect. Friendly staff, good beer, good, inexpensive food and welcoming to dogs!

The Plough Inn, Wigglesworth

Very much restaurant that serves beer, not a Pub that does food.
On a Saturday night they were hard pressed to find anywhere for us to just drink as every table was reserved and there is no "drinking" area.
However, the food is excellent.

NB Closed Monday and Tuesday and at 9.30 every night!

The Humphrey Bean, Tonbridge

This Pub deserves its low rating. It serves some novelty beers but the staff are overworked and unhelpful. They institute a queuing system, like the Post Office it was, rather than normal pub practice of attentive staff and honest customers about who is next, but then allow locals and people who look a bit scary to walk to the front and get served! I have spoken to the shift managers 3 times but they don't seem to care.
If this is the true cost of cheap beer I'll pay 3.00+ a pint for decent service any time.

The Grasshopper Inn, Moorhouse

A good "food" pub made better by friendly, attentive staff (see Croxall1 comment). We had a family do here with ages from 1 to 80 and were treated really well (by Dena, in our case).
Only note of caution is that the beer (from the Westerham Brewery) isn't always kept as well as you might wish - or maybe I was unlucky.
This pub is well worth a visit especially for the excellent carvery.

The Digby Tap, Sherborne

Well worth its CAMRA rating although the beer range varies a lot. The prices are amazing, 1 a pint less than most others in the area.

The Mitre Inn, Sandford Orcas

This is a great Pub, friendly, good beer, and you get Joe's jokes thrown in for free!

The White Hart, Brasted

Not sure what HHGTTG is looking for, but this Pub now serves a very good pint of "Landlord" as well as "Doombar" and that is a lot better than it used to do.
Maybe the menu is the same as The Derby Arms, but Epsom is quite a way away!

We have found the food good but expensive, the staff first rate and the beer (as said) very much better than it was.

The Grasshopper on the Green, Westerham

This Pub is becoming my local (see comment on The General Wolfe). The beers usually include the Westerham Brewery "Grasshopper" and Harveys. The food is very good, but not cheap. Staff usually seem friendly if a bit rushed at times. The green is great for sitting out and watching the world.

The General Wolfe, Westerham

I don't know what has happened (none of my business) but Maria is no longer around and the Pub has lost something (quite a bit actually). It is now just an OK place for a drink rather than a real welcoming 'local'.

The Bull Inn, Linton

I guess we must have been lucky (given the other reviews). Visited this Pub eith two friends a couple of wqeeks ago, and couldn't fault it. The beer was fine (I'm a Fullers man really) and the food better. The staff were friendly and attentive, the view from the garden on a summers evening (yes, there was one) amazing.

Really must take the wife!

The General Wolfe, Westerham

This has been our local for a lot of years and under Ian and Maria the best it has ever been. In response to rentaquote, he must blame GK for the restricted beers. They would have to give permission for Westerham beers to be sold, as the 'guest' beer (Speckled Hen) is, of course, off their own list.

White Hart, Henfield

Previous reviews seem pretty polarised! We visited in May and the service was friendly and attentive, the food very reasonable and the whole atmosphere realaxed and welcoming. OK, it was Sunday lunchtime and not Staurday night, grumpy landlord may have been sighted, but he didn't have any effect on our enjoyment.

The White Hart, Brasted

We love this 'place to eat'. Not so much a pub, as has been said, although we've dropped in just for a drink and it's still a great place for that too. Food is excellent, although it does take a while to arrive and that is because it is so very busy, but the atmosphere is comfortable and welcoming and the staff (plenty of them!) are attentive, cheerful, helpful and very busy.

28 Mar 2009 19:49

The Kings Arms, Leaves Green

Although this Pub has changed hands, you are still likely to feel like an intruder. A few 'locals' always sit in the curve of the bar making it awkward to get served without putting yourself in the middle of their conversation.

The beers (Shepherd Neame "Spitfire" and Fullers "Pride" are good, but the music is too loud and you may well feel like an intruder at a private party.

The Pilot Inn, Eastbourne

Revisited this Pub after 30 years. 12 adults and 7 children sat down to a superb home-cooked lunch. All the food was great, big portions, well-cooked and hot!
Service was friendly and efficient (no mean feat with 19 meals to serve at the same time).
Pint of Sussex was the final touch.

The General Wolfe, Westerham

This was a real character Pub when Rita was there, and happily, after a brief spell of mundaneness it is now back to being a real pleasure to visit. There is always a welcoming smile, the staff are friendly and attentive. Maria is everything a landlady should be, always cheerful and with time for a word for everyone, not just the regulars. The beer is Greene King IPA and Abbott, well kept and well presented. I've never eaten there but Imogen is another friendly welcoming face so I reckon her food must be good!
