The Golden Lion, Caterham

Been in here a couple of times now and really enjoyed it. The beer was in good condition and the contrary to what is reported below the staff were very friendly. The local history and military memorabilia only add to the experience. Recommended.

The Ladybird, Caterham

This is more a restaurant than a pub, but for all that the beer is OK. Unfortunately however the food isn't. Cheap and nasty pretty much summed up my meal. Tasteless rotisserie chicken with a tiny amount of BBQ sauce attempting to bring it to life but failing, limp salad and cold chips. My partner had new potatoes and a couple of them weren't cooked properly and the vegetables were overcooked and soggy. People on the table behind us were complaining to staff about the quality of their food as well so it seemed to be normal on the night we were in. We already have the Fox for awful food so why the need for the Ladybird! I won't be returning.

The Clifton Arms, Caterham

This pub has now shut down and the people running it have taken over and re-opened the Golden Lion. All the interesting military and local history paraphernalia has apparently moved with them.

The Golden Lion, Caterham

This pub has now been taken over by the people that ran the Clifton and re-opened. Haven't been in there yet but it's bound to be an improvement on it's previous incarnation.

The Botley Hill Farmhouse, Warlingham

Got to agree with the other reviewer regarding the Sunday roasts. Went there recently for the 1st time with the family and some friends and we all had roast beef. You struggled to tell the difference between the kids and the adults portions and the beef wasn't that great. We got 2 small dishes of veg between 8 of us so I went and asked for some more, which to their credit arrived without any fuss. The bill when it arrived was also wrong but again it was rectified without fuss. Staff were on the whole friendly and helpful, beer was OK as was the general ambience of the place. Only let down was the food.

The Bell Inn, Outwood

The beer wasgood but I food just OK and certainly overpriced. Wouldn't go out of my way to go back but would pop in again if passing.

Wattenden Arms, Kenley

Nice pint of TT Landlord, bar staff friendly, prices reasonable. Worth dropping in if passing but I wouldn't go out of my way to go there for a drink.

The Grasshopper on the Green, Westerham

Nice traditional old pub in the town centre. Usually has at least a couple of beers from the excellent Westerham Brewery. Food OK though a bit over priced(but maybe not for Westerham). Worth a visit if your in the area.

The General Wolfe, Westerham

Well kept beer, very friendly and hard working staff and a pleasure to drink in, especially now that smoking is banned.

The Fox, Caterham

Ate there recently for the first time in ages and really wished I hadn't. The temperature of the food on my plate ranged from molten to just thawed. Absolutely awful. As was the service at the bar. Beer was distinctly average also. Best avoided.

The King and Queen, Caterham

I've used this pub on and off for over 20 years. It always was the best pub in Caterham and still is. The Fullers beers are always in excellent nick and the staff and locals are friendly. It is your archetypal village boozer and if you can grab a table by one of the open fires in the Winter, even better.

The Pilgrim, Caterham

Plastic, over priced, boring chain pub. Haven't eaten there but for a drink The Valley is much nicer.

The Village Inn, Caterham

This place is a huge improvement on it's previous incarnation. Anyone who ventured in there when it was the Caterham Arms and promised never to return should give it another go as it has change enormously.

Gone are the tv screens, dowdy furniture and sticky carpet and in is a contemporary decor with leather sofas and wooden flooring. They now operate a very good restaurant, with a small but interesting menu. The night I ate there the quality was very good which makes this a good addition to "The Hill" which lacks anywhere decent to eat (apart from the Indian in the High St.). The beer selection has also improved with the addition of a couple of real ales - London Pride and Speckled Hen - with the intention to extend the range in the near future. Added to this is a reasonable range of fizz and a good wine list, all of which are available by the glass. Staff are friendly and the music is good if not sometimes a little loud. All in all well worth a visit.
