The Bird In Hand, Henley-On-Thames

Recently visited Henley for a few days to celebrate the wife's birthday and made the effort to seek out the Bird in Hand as it looked to have the best reviews of the pubs in the area - so glad I did because I was greeted with the friendliest, cosiest local pub I've been in for a good long while. The selection of beers was much better than anywhere else in the area (the usual Brakespear and London Pride, but also a Mordue and another one I didn't recognise), although I was on a take home box of Loddon that apparently was leftover from a local wedding and was being sold off for charity at 1.50 a pop! Its no exaggeration that I could have lived in this pub! Thanks to Graham and the locals for making my trip to Henley really enjoyable, no doubt I'll be back soon enough. 9/10

The Wellington, Birmingham

You cant argue with the quality or range of beers at the Welly, but I just cant bring myself to spend any time in there since the smoking ban it whiffs! Such a shame as I used thoroughly enjoy afternoons spent up there getting through as many top quality beers as possible. I wonder if theres some kind of pipe smoke flavour air freshener you can buy...

The Lord Clifden, Birmingham

Went in here for the first time on Saturday to while away some time whilst the missus went looking for sparkly things in the jewellery quarter have to say I was very impressed. Makes an excellent job of being a funky bar with good beers (cant be many of them around!), good contrast between the (friendly) footie atmos in the front bar and the more food orientated back area. Nicely done out courtyard area as well. Bathams was spot on when I visited. Im already a fan of the place and will be making the effort to get out there more often.

The Weighbridge, Alvechurch

A lovely authentic canal side pub with an excellent range of beers (always at least one from my favourite brewery Weatheroak). Just a shame it does the old thing of closing late afternoon, suppose that adds to the authentic charm! Well worth a visit.

The Crown Inn, Alvechurch

A real proper country pub with a good beer range and what looked like very tasty pub grub. Perfectly located for walks along the canal. Sitting outside in the sunshine last Saturday afternoon with a few pints was my idea of heaven!!

The Peacock Inn, Forhill

Used to do excellent food, gone downhill a little in recent years. Also noticed that the Enville wasnt on last time I went shame as its one my fave beers. Still a nice place to spend an afternoon though.

The Mermaid, Burford

Looks like a quaint little place from the outside but unfortunately the owners have obvisouly decided that it needed a bit of modernisation inside, which has spoilt the place a bit. Nice proper open fire though and the Olde Trip was top notch.

The Royal Oak, Burford

Nice proper authentic local pub the collection of toby jugs is impressive! Very quiet when we visited on a midweek evening with just a couple of locals propping up the bar, didnt feel uncomfortable or anything though. Not a particularly wide selection of ales considering the CAMRA recommended sign.

The Coach and Horses, Weatheroak Hill

Quite simply one of the best pubs ever at least 12 (count them!) quality real ales on at all times, excellent value food, top notch beer garden and a proper olde worlde feel to the tap room with its stone floor and real fire. Im lucky as its only a short bike ride away for me, but well worth the effort if you have to come from further afield.
