The Philharmonic, Liverpool

Rarely top notch?! You rarely drink in the place then. Well kept beers every time I've been in ( hundreds of times in the last ten years ) . The previous comment of drinking there for 35 years means you keep going back....why would someone do that if they served bad beer???!!! Food has always been fantastic when I've dined there. Had an amazing Old Spot sausage and mash tonight....thank you to our waitress Nikole for the great service

The Crown Liquor Saloon, Belfast

The Crown is a Nicholsons with a difference!!! The only other equal is The Philharmonic in Liverpool. Both are magnificent buildings. The Phil being classed as the most ornate pub in Britain, but maybe The Crown should be the most ornate pub in the UK? I've not had the pleasure!?! in visiting the gents in the Crown ( being female! ), but I have in The Phil, it's a must see and separately listed from the main body of the pub. Maybe that's one of the main differences. Does anyone know if the gents in The Crown are original as well???

The Phil is currently closed for a refurb. Go along and check out the improvements when it reopens. The much loved Phil finally gets a revamp. Looking forward to seeing the changes!!!

The Snickleway Inn, York

Seems to be a local pub for local people(?) a group of four of us went in and were not only ignored by the bar person - It was not busy - but the (LOCALS) sat on the bar stools all looked at us and shifted their seats together, which seemed to be encouraged by the girl behind the bar, we were then ignored for a bit longer, before deciding that it wasn't worth the hassle and left. I wouldn't bother going in unless the staff and locals already know you - even then I wouldn't recommend speaking, in case you get you say something they don't like ie: trying to order a drink!!.----AVOID

Red Lion, Chester

The Red Lion is currently closed due to a major refurbishment. It will re-open on the 24th February 2011. It will no longer be a value pub, it changes to a quality Nicholsons food and cask led outlet..... thank god for what will be great standards in a fantastic outlet!!

Realalebum likes to go to the GOOD real ale pubs in the Hardman Street area at their busiest times.... Any GOOD pub at peak times will have a LOT of people in it. The best pints come to those that have the sense to know that you can only pour a pint SO fast. I think you'll find the best pints are let to settle ( no matter how busy it is!!).The verbal reviews of FILL lately haven't been great by the way!!

I think you'll find it has had the same Manager for some time. The ciders were part of their seasonal selections over a year a go. Things have moved on in the world!
