Great beer selection. Needs to invest in comfy chairs.
17 Mar 2019 19:59
A great pub in it's hayday serving decent Tetleys when all other locals sold the ubiquitous not so good Greenalls bitter. Sadly now closed.

Historic (Thomas Hardy) Inn with super helpful, friendly bar staff.
4 Nov 2018 19:39
Another Sam Smith's pub and hence decent cheap beers available. Not bad for a quick pint if you can cope withe the 'No Swearing' directive from the eponymous head man.
17 May 2017 13:28

The Horse and Jockey, Stapleford
Sister pub to The Star in Beeston with similar decor and real ale selection. Relaxing vibe, clean, well kept with good choice of real ale craft beers. A real find in Stabbo and beats most other locals for miles around hands down.

Relaxing little pub. Old school, basic decor but clean with good choice of ales. Food superb and great value but thankfully is a side note to the beer.

19 Jun 2016 12:59
Lovely old style thatched pub with open fires, real ales and good selection of rustic grub.
22 May 2016 09:35
Used to frequent this pub in the late 80's when it appeared in an episode of Auf Wiedersehen (if you watch carefully you can see the etched glass Star Inn windows) and sold Shippos. Now serves real ales and has been renovated whilst retaining the old pub layout. On a par with The Vic and The Crown. To those responsible - Top Marks!

Dropped in on a crawl. Stayed for several pints and games of pool. Seemed welcoming enough to us. Enjoyed it.
22 Jun 2015 15:25
Welcoming old style boozer. HPA 2 pints for a fiver. Tops. Nuff said.
22 Jun 2015 15:22
Stopped off half way round a 50 mile cycle. The ploughman's (good value at £7.95) and a pint replenished my energy. The landlady made me feel welcome. Lovely location and ambience.
11 Apr 2015 12:32
Quiet and friendly with great beers. For me, the most enjoyable pub in alcester. A free pint for every 10 purchased!
8 Apr 2015 11:14
Handsome old-style pub both outside and in. Limited choice of beers but friendly staff and well worth a visit.
8 Apr 2015 11:12
A liitle bit of England...in the rocks area not far from the bridge
14 Dec 2014 16:43

17 May 2014 20:44
£3.50 for a pint of Landlord bitter. Absolutely shocking.
20 Apr 2014 12:51
Pint of Taddy lager and Sam's bitter for less than 4 quid! Unbeatable.
Authentic olde style little boozer with a welcoming open fire. Don't miss it.
25 Mar 2014 19:46

9 Dec 2013 19:17
Watch the sun go down over Norwich market after an oyster or two at the market stall outside. Great pub.
9 Dec 2013 19:13

Gem of a pub in a beautiful place on the Peddars way.
Excellent ploughmans. Decent ostrich real ale.
9 Dec 2013 19:03
A gem. And in answer to eddybeer below it was a Kimberley pub since when the only modernisation has been the addition of a dozen real ales and ciders...full marks to all concerned.
14 Aug 2013 19:54
The Porterhouse, Covent Garden
Trying hard to seem authentic old style pub and nearly pulls it off. Decent ales, ambient lighting, plenty of nooks and tables to hide away in. Worth a visit for a pint of porter.
14 Aug 2013 19:49
The Sun In Splendour, Notting Hill
Dived in here to get away from the shuffling Portobello road madding crowd. Nice decor, comfy seats, decent beers and PEACE.
14 Aug 2013 19:41
Old style pub lots of alcoves, wood and high ceilings with some decent real ales. Visited late Saturday afternoon when it wasn't very busy and would recommend it.
14 Aug 2013 19:39
Still a great pub never seems to change. Can't beat escaping the shoppers with a pint or four of Staropramen in the left-hand bar at the front...breath out, drink beer and relax ahhhhhh......

The Hand and Heart, Nottingham
Real ales, caves, seats with cushions, and off the city's beaten track...a little gem.
2 Sep 2012 11:41
If you value old style pubs with no music, no cooked food, no children, an open fire, clean and well kept large selection of real ales then this is the pub for you...can get very busy at times but the hustle and bustle add to the atmosphere
24 Jun 2012 15:09
Rough old boozer : pool table and the Rajpoot curry house at 100 yards make it worth a visit...shame it only sells John Smiths
24 Jun 2012 14:55
Young and Jackson's, Melbourne
Oz equivalent to Wetherspoons....beer no dearer than anywhere else in Melbourne but cheapest pint at 9Au$ equates to 6+ in English pounds...the alcohol police/Oz nanny-state are taxing it to death...even got refused a pint because we'd been in too long...fortunately/ridiculously I could still drink schooners
24 Jun 2012 14:38
Food pub. But it's history and ambience make it worth a visit. Don't miss the pie and good beers.
18 May 2012 16:17
The George and Dragon, Great Budworth

The Goat's Head, Abbotts Bromley
Lovely pub in a lovely area. Cracking little bar. The best side is a restaurant. Check out their website...Dick Turpin obviously liked a pint or two...yet another pub where he stayed ;-)
15 May 2012 11:29
Great selection of well kept real ales, and plentiful choice of continental lagers and lots of space at lunchtime at any rate. Not usually impressed by value meals but the Christmas Dinner with beef at 6.95 including a drink was one of the best value enjoyable meals I've ever had. Compliments to all the staff.
20 Dec 2011 20:00
The Barley Mow Inn, Kirk Ireton
Time travel back to the 19th century for a pint or two. Beer-tastic.
10 Oct 2011 10:58
Cosy fire in winter, great location in summer right on Trent and Mersey canal...well worth seeking out
12 May 2008 13:26
The Shepherds Rest, Lower Bagthorpe
Friendly pub, beautiful location...outside spoilt by litter, fag ends, dirty glasses, half-eaten meals all in need of a good tidyup on a regular basis
12 May 2008 13:14
The Malt and Hops, Taunton
Loved the place. Everything a proper pub should be: decent good value ales, real people and proper pub decor without the ubiquitous modern day gastlypub (gastropub) focus which has ruined far too many great pubs of yore. Owners, I applaud you.
