The Jack Horner, Tottenham Court Road

Have been an irregular user of this pub for the last twenty odd years. When visiting London I always make a point off dropping in for one or two. Looks and feels like a decent London Pub and the food isnt bad. Give it a go.

Rocky O'Reillys, Prague

Tucked of a side street in Wenceslas square. Looks like an Irish pub when inside but more like an empty shop window from the outside. Did like the food and drink but found the staff a bit too pushy, asking if i wanted a re fill with a third to go. Suppose they were as bored as I was, being the only punter in there. This place didnt do it for me

In de Wildeman, Amsterdam

I returned again in the summer on what was a very hot day in Amsterdam. Place was empty apat from a few tourists mulling over tourist guides. Tried the De Koenig which is one of the better examples in Amsterdam. I do like this pub, but, is it the best in Amsterdam, definately no but certainly no where near the worst either. Give it a try, worth a visit

O'Reillys, Amsterdam

Was back in this pub just after the smoking ban was introduced. It seemed to make a huge difference and considering my latest visit, was in the summer, it didnt seem as busy as my previous visit which was earlier in the year. Having said that, quality of the draught on offer was good, and I ate there on several occasions. The food was to a very good standard. And yes, the staff make this place. Very attentive and sociable. Tables and chairs ouside for the smokers or people watchers

In de Wildeman, Amsterdam

I stumbled upon this place one lunchtime during my stay in Amsterdam, February this year. Like all places in Amsterdam a very warm and friendly welcome. I was the first in and was offered what can only be described as a wide choice of draught and bottled ales. Tried several, but was the worse for drink when I left so cant be too specific only to say that, I cant wait to return during my next trip in the summer. This pub has a non smoking room at the rear of the bar. Apparently the barman tells me that this pub is twinned with another pub in Nottingham.

The Tav Bar, Bloomsbury

Its not a pub, just a hotel bar, and i would tend to class the hotel as a commercial travellers hotel or a cheap tourist hotel.

Usually filled with a mixture of tourists, construction workers etc. Good service behind the bar if Tony is working with no complaints about the limited choice of beers. Yes the management are trying to tempt the people off the streets but the bar is only open in the evenings.

Lanes bowling alley is situated on the next floor down, but noise isnt excessive from the bowling, just the clientele coming and going plus the music

Can be heaving some nights and barren on others.

My tip.......there is also a wine bar in this hotel....Jaques, which has a good selection of food, and an excellent ever changinging wine list.

Give it a try

The Royal George, Euston

Always my last port of call before I catch the train. Yes the place needs a good cleanup, although the beer seems well kept and the staff very friendly and hardworking. Have never had to hang around waiting to be served here for long, even during the weekday rush hour when the place is usually heaving. Will still keep popping in here.

The London Pub, Bloomsbury

Think this place is owned by the same group that own the bed factories ( hotels ) which are above and adjacent. Have been using this place mainly at lunchtimes since it opened, when visiting London. Dull selection of beers, and barsnack food available. Staff seem to change every visit. Generally full of tourists and suits at lunchtimes. OK sort of place, but dont break a leg to get here

The Jack Horner, Tottenham Court Road

I always seem to land here on weekday lunchtimes, when visiting London. Good position, pleasant and welcoming staff, freshly cooked food which is generous in its servings, and well kept ales. Also worthy of note is the wine selection. I find the food good value for money but bottled beers seem a little on the pricy side. Also very clean. I will certainly keep returning and would recommend this establishment.

The Harp, Covent Garden

Have been using this pub now for over two years, though not as much as I would like to. Always had a great welcome here. Good selection of well kept ales, and an above average selection of spirits. A good selection of hot sausages served, but get in early....they usually disappear very quickly. Varied clientelle, and always a good atmosphere
