The Punchbowl, Oakwoodhill

Returning back to London from Sussex on Jubilee Tuesday trying to find a pub that wasn't doing a B-B-Q (in the rain !!) was proving hard. Saw the pub sign on side of road (A29) as it was nearly 2pm we gave it a try.Looked good - oldeworld in &out. . Owner / staff very friendly, had a tasty Badger Best. Good range of food (not too much choice) - a good chunk of steak & kidney pie, roast pork, beer battered fish. Veg. passable (why is it so hard to find pubs that can cook veg properly ??). Service was quick - though pub was only 1/2 full. Overall - worth stopping off if in area.

Prince Of Wales, Woodgate

Staying local so popped in here for Sunday lunch with friends. Outside it looks promising enough but interior drab 70's look. IPA was a bit flat but acceptable. Owner very helpful, offered us a taste of wines before ordering. Sunday roasts (lamb, pork) were acceptable, good portions but a bit overcooked for our liking. Overall OK but wouldn't recommend.

The Black Rabbit, Offham

Took a chance on Jubilee Saturday at 1pm, as car park was full thought we'd have to queue for drink & wait a long time for food. We were pleasantly surprised - service was excellent, staff cheerful, badger was really good, had full meal for four - came within 1/2 hour - good quality and portions. Sun was out - lovely views by river to Arundel Castle - perfect!

The Peacock Inn, Piltdown

Came with friends and children for Sunday eve meal. Friendly & helpful staff. Manager offered and gave my partner three tasters of wine to help her choose - nice touch. All meal were servered together - well cooked and presented, extras addons etc no problem. Good Beer range served just right. All-in-all lovely traditional pub, comfortable and a very pleasent experience.

The Pig and Butcher, Five Ash Down

very popular pub with locals for beer in evening after work. Friendly staff. Went with some local friends mid Bank Holiday week. Beer was good however not too impressed with food, very bland cooking, lamb chops overdone, fish greasy, soggy veg etc. So, OK for a beer but that's all - unless you're easily pleased.

Blackboys Inn, Blackboys

Had a lovely lunch in reastaurant part with family - good service and well prepared steak & Harveys ale pie & veg. The new management are obviously trying their best to maintain a good reputation. Settled in bar after, very cosy but surpisingly quite for Bank Holiday week. Recession seems to be taking its toll- even on the good pubs.

The Cock Inn, Ringmer

Well the current management have maintained the excellent value, service, and quality of food & beer. Had probably best chicken & bacon Ceaser salad ever. Harveys was bright and refreshing. Perfic.

The Driftwood Spars Hotel, St Agnes

Aug 11 - popped in for lunch and didn't expect such a good experience for a pub so close to the beach (compared to the many bland touristy ripoffs on coast we walked in & straight out of that week). Our party of 4 had just sat down in pole position in the front bar when the skies opened up and people flocked in - hoards of them - with kids in prams, soggy dogs etc, the place swallowed them all over its three floors with no fuss. We ordered food - expecting a long wait (and I resigned myself to trying most of the excellent range of beers before being served) - but no - all 4 dishes arrived within 20 minutes, local fish & moules, though portions were a bit on the small size - it was all very tasty. Note, in summer you can get ticket for free parking opp pub, so ask at bar before coughing up s for pay& display.

The Pheasant, St Newlyn East

Aug 11 - Found bar staff very friendly and willing to please - good beer (no cider though). Lunch food we had (on two occassions) was excellent - changing selection of daily specials (local fish & meat) & good value - gave extra scoops of ice cream for children at no extra cost. Overall - a good local and far better than the typical 'tourist' pubs in the area.

The St Kew Inn, St Kew

Looks & feels the part - in lovely picture postcard setting, beer range & taste was fine, service friendly & quick etc. Lunch menu was on pricey side though & not very exciting either (seeing as it's now being run by an ex-Rick Stein chef) - only thing to excite was sea bass in bouillabaisse - but it was served with no veg at all - just a few thin slithers of bread (had to ask for more). Was told to book for Saturday lunch by staff but it was less than 1/2 full (1 - 3pm) !!

The Plume of Feathers, Mitchell

Sunday 14 Aug 11 - This pub was recommended to us by locals for a good Sunday roast. We were not disappointed - had 2xbeef and 1xlocal pork, with Y-Pud + 3xal-dente veg & real gravy. Price reflected quality&portion size. Service was quick despite being 3/4 full. Good selection of local beers + 1 cider. The near full conservatory restaurant was a bit noisy so we ate in the bar area, which was much more cosy.

The Cricketers, Cobham

1st time visit with friends for Sun lunch. Beer fine. Great location and character. Food service very slow though. 7 meals ordered arrived between 60 to 90 mins later following several reminders. Quality OK but let down by the wait. May be better in a quieter period!

The Mint, Banstead

Started going to this pub 30 years ago when I lived in Surrey. It was good beer/food/ service etc. Returned recently after 20 years. What a letdown! Food late, either under or over cooked - when I went to complain I asked the guy behind the bar if he was the manager - he replied "I'm afraid so" - says it all really. OK pub for a drink - but that's all.
