The Bell and Buck, New Barnet

Currently closed down. When it was open only had business on 2 times of the week, Friday & Saturday nights.

The George, Enfield

Don't even think about going here after 8pm on a Friday evening unless you are built like an All Blacks rugby player. About 12 years ago me and a retired friend of mine were thrown out by the bouncers for "not fitting in"! Went back a few months ago to meet the same friend in the afternoon, and this time found it to be much quieter. Big pub, but be prepared to stand up to drink later on.

The Alfred Herring, Palmers Green

A bit limited for space inside. This pub is named after a First World War hero who showed great bravery in the trenches.

Weavers Bar, Barnet

Last time I visited(about 1 year ago) I ended up talking to a lady at the bar about deadly cobras in Africa ! Certainly has a lot of character, and found the serving staff entertaining as well. Trouble is, the pub is a bit small, and so it's hard to avoid certain people, like you can in other bigger places.

The Lord Nelson, Barnet

Pub is hidden away done a side street. Very much a regulars pub, with a bit of a 70s feel to it with the dated furniture. Not surprisingly, there is ship/nautical stuff about (well it is called The Lord Nelson !). The pub puss is obviously too young to get served & she/he seems to be more interested in dozing than boozing !

The Sir John Oldcastle, Farringdon

Entertaining big pub which I believe used to be a bank building. 3 TVs. Big glass windows all around which let you look out at the people going to and from Farringdon tube station. I've been going here for several years, but got a shock when I visited just after Christmas 2011 when I saw a black rat run across the pub. Contacted Wetherspoons about it to complain, but just got back a standard sort of letter that is sent out by customer support people, saying that rats are only to be expected in a city area pub !! Varied customers - students, city types, regulars.

The Rockingham Arms, Elephant and Castle

Have been here quite a few times. I believe the pub is an old 1960s DHSS building. Last time I was at this pub 3 police cars were called to deal with a bloke who I believe was trying to steal somebody's bag, and he was being held down on the floor ! And that was in the afternoon ! On the visit before that there were a few "rough types" getting nasty at the bar because they felt they must be served next. Big pub right on The Elephant & Castle - but only visit if you feel that you can "handle yourself", if you get any "bother" !

The Prince of Wales, East Barnet

Does a very good pint of Adnams for 1.89. Also Speckeled Hen is available. The last time I was there on a Friday night with a friend they had some students who set up a small stage to perform comedy, but that's the first time I've ever seen that in all the years(20) that I've been going there. Unfortunately the stage blocked off one of the toilets. Mainly a locals boozer, so you see all the old faces over & over again - like mine !!
