Mad Cat Inn, Pidley

Went for Sunday lunch just after New Year - an OK pint of one ale but a very good Woodford's Wherry as the second. The lunch was a carvery - as much as you want to eat, so good value for those wanting a big old feast! Food was perfectly reasonable but nothing stood out massively. Friendly and cheerful staff, and a reasonable bill at the end of it all.

The Fox, Bar Hill

Went for a pint with a mate early evening the other day to dilute the humdrum of a trip in the next-door massive Tesco earlier on. Pretty much echoing earlier comments, it's not a great place - but reasonable. It's clean and tidy, and there's a TV showing sports in the corner. The staff were OK but appeared a bit disinterested. The food's thematic stuff but I didn't try it - prices seemed OK. Two real ales on - a Courage Best and a guest. Both were perfectly reasonable and well-kept. We just had the one though, so we'll try again - maybe with food - and see what it's like then.

The White Horse, Oakington

Wow - last review some six years ago! The pub's changed hands many times since then, with Greene King shafting some landlords good and proper ("Oh, making a profit now, are we? We'll triple the rent!") Since then they've advertised for tenants and managers; not sure who the current incumbents are. They do food as well, but went there solely for an ale this evening. Choice of three: GK's IPA or Abbot (unsurprising) and Hook Norton's Old Hooky, straight from the barrel. Went for the Hooky. A fine pint, but a bit on the pricey side - city centre prices in the middle of nowhere? Maybe GK are still shafting them, at 3.30 a pint! A nice little pub by this evening's visit, if you're not choosy about paying that much.

The Red Lion, Histon

Forgot to mention - a small but excellent representative sample of bottled beers, mostly Belgian, as well. Fruit beers, Lambics, Trappists, and some of those really dangerous ones best avoided if driving in the next 48 hours!

The Red Lion, Histon

I must echo previous comments by others: an excellent visit this evening. Unfortunately I was driving my friend so we had only a pint of the superb Oakham Bishop's Farewell, but it's obviously popular as when it ran out halfway through pulling the second pint another barrel was swiftly connected. Just as good. Also available were Weston's Country Perry and a real cider (Pickled Pig's "Porker's Snout"), For us alemeisters there was also Theakston's OP, Nethergate's IPA, Everard's Tiger, Tring's Blonde, Mighty Oak's Oscar Wilde, and on a rare double-necked pump (one pipe with sparkler, one not - make your choice!) Bateman's session XB. A lovely pub - no children after 19:30 and friendly locals. Well worth the weather heating up and getting the bicycles out so we can enjoy more! Recommended.

The Graduate, Cambridge

This is indeed now a Wetherspoon's, known as The Tivoli. It's got wi-fi and big screens usually showing muted Sky News with subtitles. The phone number's now 01223 310450. It's the usual Wetherspoon's fare: cheap cheerful food, plus a huge range of competitively priced drinks - unfortunately occasionally attracting a clientele more wanting cheap alcohol than interested in personal hygiene or finding somewhere to live that night. That said, the staff are good, keeping an eye on things, the ales are excellent, and the wine list good as well - although occasionally the red's served a bit cold. Interesting local ales, some not often seen, and some sourced from much further afield. I've only been Sunday lunchtimes so far, so not sure what its night-time customers or atmosphere are like.

The Three Tuns, Willingham

Just checked - it's called the Royal Bengal Indian Restaurant, its new post code is CB24 5HS, and the phone number's 01954 26 30 60.

The Three Tuns, Willingham

The Three Tuns is now an Indian restaurant. There's the usual Indian style beers, e.g. Cobra (brewed in Bedford by Wells & Youngs), Kingfisher (brewed in Faversham by Shepherd Neame), and there are generic "bitter" and "lager" beers on the menu. It's reasonably cheap and cheerful, although the year-round presence of fruit flies can make the visit a little tiresome. I'd take my mates there, but not my mum and dad!

The Exhibition, Over

Reasonable ale but steeply priced. Didn't try the food.

The Admiral Vernon, Over

I only had beer this time, which was excellent. A bit of a tinge of cleaning product in the air, but it was worth the visit! I'll try the food some time and re-post when I have.
