Nothing special but okay for a pint after a walk on the Tarka Trail.

Nice pub, great location and pleasant atmosphere. Used by locals and holiday-makers alike.

Very basic boozer and nothing wrong with that but the landlady was holding court whilst I was there which somewhat spoilt the visit.

It looks more attractive and promising from its outside appearance - especially for visitors to the town - but it is rather a disappointment once inside. Potentially this could be a cracking boozer but on my last handful of visits there were loud and drunk all day drinkers hogging the central area of its narrow area. I have never worked out quite what this pub wants to be since first drinking here in the late 1970's when it was like drinking in a 1950's front parlour. It's a bit of a shame really as its location is just about the best in town. That said, it is a popular place for the younger (and those who refuse to grow up) on weekend evenings so it must have something going for it.

Paid a visit recently and I was pleased to see it was pretty much the same as when I drank here often in the early 1980's. Nice atmosphere of locals and strangers alike, decent (if limited) food menu and efficient and friendly service.

I pop into The Arena Tavern now and again as it is pretty consistant. It does not try to be anything other than a basic pub and there is certainly nothing fancy about it. I have never had a problem with the service and feel comfortable drinking in here either as part of a group or alone.

I can't disagree with any of the previous comments. The last time I went in there it was three deep at the bar with one person serving - regulars first - so I walked straight out again. Unfortunately you are not exactly spoilt for choice in Letchworth when it comes to having a pint.

This was a half decent boozer in the first few years of its existence. I remember the manager politely informing a customer that it was an "ale house" when he was asked for an alcopop. Unfortunately times have changed and there is now only one real ale amongst a host of lagers and yes ... alcopops. It also had a nice atmosphere with a good range of ages and different "types" but this too has changed for the worse. Not intimidating but certainly not as relaxed as it was. It is a shame it has gradually succumbed to the mass market.

The White Hart Inn, Bideford
Used this pub several times whilst in town. Welcoming landlord and staff. Does not pretend to be anything other than a proper pub. Nothing fancy and good on them.
