The Duke of York, Fitzrovia

Popped in a crawl of this area. Good pub with several real ales - give it a try

The Tottenham, Soho

This pub is now called ***** Horse; classic Nicholson's pub good staff and good beer. We had the Nicholson's Pale Ale, excellent condition.

The Wheatsheaf, Fitzrovia

On a bit of a crawl in this area, popped in here for one. Abbott at 2.20 a pint within 150 yards of Oxford Street ! The need to keep to the schedule meant we just had the one, but I will be returning.

The Marquis of Granby, Fitzrovia

Popped in here last week for a beer and something to eat. Staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. Pub was busy but they found us a better table than we had found ourselves ! Selection of real ales - well worth a visit

The Bridge House, Norwich

This pub is now called Lollard's Pit. It has a good real ale selection and offers a CAMRA discount on full pints only. Today they had Wherry, Nelson's Revenge, Panther and a red beer from Humpty Dumpty. Well worth a visit if you are in the fine city of Norwich

The White Lion, Norwich

Visited today before the match at Carrow Road. Was rather limited for time, tried 4 of the real ales on offer. Great variety and all in good condition. A 7% mild, a 7% IPA and two more towards the middle. Really enjoyed them all.

Micawbers Tavern, Norwich

I've only been here on a lunchtime before the football at Carrow Road. Today there were 4 real ales on and 2 just finished. Most of our party had Woodfordes Once Bittern, others the Nog. Both well kept
Good pub, good landlady, shows the football but not obtrusively

Gatehouse, Norwich

Just enjoyed 2 beers in this very traditional pub. I tried Oak Grain and Woodfoods White IPA, both excellent.. I enjoyed the press cuttings on the wall - very amusing.
One of the reasons that i am submitting a review is that on one site i looked at it suggested it was closed. Still a vibrant entity with a music programme most Friday, Saturday and Sundays's

The Salutation Inn, Nottingham

I really can't remember when i was last in The Salutation ? 1975 ? Well the only thing that seems to have changed is the choice of beers. Its now better ! Had a great pint from The Castle Brewery but plenty of others to choose from. Well worth a visit if in Nottingham

Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, Nottingham

I have a soft spot for the Trip having been a student in Nottingham in the 70s. Despite the GK insigna outside still well worth a visit. Had a good pint of the resurgent Shipstones. Its a pity that the old pub game with the ring on a string has disappeared.

The Navigation Inn, Nottingham

Great canal side pub that has been here for well over a hundred years. Good choice of beers, friendly staff - well worth a visit

17 Sep 2016 22:23

Canal House, Nottingham

Had 2 good pints sitting next to the canal after the Forest Norwich match. 1 Pint of Lacons and 1 pint of Oakham. I can't comment on the prices as I didn't go to the bar. I enjoyed my visit and would certainly return.

The White Lion, Norwich

Have been here twice recently. A great range of beers and ciders. Beers from the Milton Brewery and guests, bottles from all over the place and more ciders and perrys than you shake a stick at. Worth a a visit.

The Golden Star, Norwich

Visited here before the football at Carrow Road. A classic local with GK staples and a guest from Castle brewery Nottingham. A pleasant welcome by the barmaid. I had the guest which was excellent. There is a lovely old bar billiards table in the back bar. Worth a visit but quite a step to the ground so plan a route with a few stops - there is plenty of choice.

14 Jan 2016 18:58

The Woolpack, Norwich

Visited here on Saturday before the football at Carrow Road. Had an excellent pint of Elgoods and a pie. Thoroughly enjoyed. Worth a visit. Its quite a walk to the ground though so need to plan a few pubs for the route

The Crown and Anchor, Euston

Visited on Saturday lunch after the Euston Tap and before catching the train to Watford.
Several real ales on, i had the honey and ginger which was excellent. Would recommend

The Wellington Arms, Watford

I agree with Captain Ralph ( last review). Good pub with real ale and footy. When i visited Pride and a Tring offering. Would recommend and return.

7 Dec 2015 02:22

The Flag, Watford

Popped in after Watford v Norwich after visiting The Horns. Good selection of real ales and the one i had was well kept. Pity the pub facilities section doesn't promote its real ale as a feature. Yes it is a large venue but i thought it should have a higher rating than it does on this site. Watford is not exactly a real ale mecca and this pub should be recognised for providing a choice to those nearby. I will return if we aren't relegated !

Sir Garnet Wolseley, Norwich

I've lived in Norwich for over 20 years, there are so many good pubs it is difficult to. visit them all.

I went to the Sir Garnet for Sunday lunch today. The beef was lovely and tender. Had a lovely pint of Bullard's Amber. There was one other real ale on - can't remember which.

Just on the edge of Norwich market which makes for a different view than from most pubs. I will return soon.

The Town of Ramsgate, Wapping

Nice old historic pub with river views but much pricier than others nearby. Staff polite but less friendly and engaging than at other pubs in the area.

27 Sep 2015 17:54

The Ledger Building, Canary Wharf

I visited The Ledger after football at West Ham, very impressed with the building and surrounds. I've not reviewed a Spoons pub before but having read the reviews below thought i could write something considerably more positive.
Good service, good range of beers and food arrived in about 10 minutes. Prices may be higher than in some Spoons pubs but lower then others nearby

27 Sep 2015 17:50

The Captain Kidd, Wapping

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime after Turner's Old Star. As stated elsewhere typical Sam Smith's offering, OBB et al. Good pub, great views of the river and 2 friendly bar staff.

27 Sep 2015 17:46

Turners Old Star, Wapping

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime on route to football at Upton Park. I had the Elgoods which was most enjoyable. We were first customers of the day, lovely sunny day so we sat in the garden. Pub was filling up as we left and before Tottenham got stuck into Man City which was on the screens but not the space wasn't dominated by them. Friendly landlord. Definitely worth a visit if in Wapping for a few.

The Ribs of Beef, Norwich

Good pub on the bridge opposite The Mischief. Good beer selction. Ideal place to start a trip up Magdalen Street to The Kings Head and The Plasterers. Give them all a visit.

4 May 2015 01:17

The Kings Head, Norwich

Great beer selection and to their credit they use pint lined glasses so you get a full measure. Beer in good condition. Bar staff knowledgeable and enthusiatic. Bar billiards table which is a plus. Busy on my saturday afternoon visit.

4 May 2015 01:13

The Plasterers Arms, Norwich

My second visit here was a Saturday afternoon after a lunchtime match. Wide beer and cider selection, all we tried in good condition. Busy for thetime of day.
Great community pub with a local feel.

4 May 2015 01:03

New Inn, Horning

Having read the reviews above i feel some need for balance. This pub has 3 real ales on the bar, on my visit Abbott and 2 bitters. Had lunch on a bank holiday. Really enjoyed the food, plenty of the menu is homemade, had a very tasty chocolate brownie. Clearly a busy pub in a holiday area with moorings. Do give it a try.

4 May 2015 00:57

The Mustard Pot, Norwich

Always a wide range of beers in good condition and at reasonable prices, some on the bar and some round the back.
A great beer pub and a great place for pre-match prearation.

26 Apr 2015 09:47

The Unthank Arms, Norwich

This pub is informally split between a bar area and a restaurant area, offering 3 real ales. I enjoyed my visit, had a 2 course meal and a few pints of Adnams. I would certainly return.
More variety on the 3 real ales would have made it more interesting.
Wish I had a pub like this near my house. Give it a try.

26 Apr 2015 09:39

Pub on the Prom, Great Yarmouth

Three real ales, I had the Adnams which was ok. As other comments have said its a safe choice for food and drinks on the sea front. In Yarmouth you can do a lot worse than give The Prom a try.

26 Jan 2014 12:13

The St. John's Head, Great Yarmouth

I have made several visits recently. Three or so real ales which are always changing. I'm sure it is tough running a pub currently. The only time I have found this pub busy was when Norwich were on TV. A locals pub that doesn't appear to welcome visitors; the bar staff should be trained in in customer service and told that smiles are free.

26 Jan 2014 12:08

The Rat and Ratchet, Huddersfield

Visited with my brother in law last month, he is a frequent visitor but first time for me.
Fabulous range of well kept beers from the Rat Brewery and other lesser know breweries.
If in Huddersfield this pub is a "must visit".

9 Dec 2012 09:19

The Wildebeest Arms, Stoke Holy Cross

Yes its a gastro pub, but its a very good gastro pub serving well kept real ale. I've just been for a great Sunday Lunch ( 2 courses about 20 plus drinks) , the food and the beer were excellent. Whenever you go there are folks at the bar who use it as a local, today 2 chaps were playing crib. Fantastic offering if you can be open minded about what a pub should be.

30 Apr 2012 00:19

The Jubilee, Norwich

Great local pub that offers a range of ales, Woodfordes, London Pride are regulars plus other offerings. Match day food is cheap and cheeful but these is a chippy over the road.

28 Jan 2012 17:13

The Warrington Hotel, Maida Vale

Just happened to be back in the area later in January and popped in for a bite to eat. The two real ales were now contrasting in style, the food was good if a moderate portion and it was served promptly

28 Jan 2012 17:10

The Prince Alfred, Bayswater

Close to Warwick Avenue tube, this is a interesting pub for anyone interested in pub architecture. One of the few pubs to stil have partitioned bars and snob screens.

I visited after the Norwich victory at QPR so was in good spirits. Friendly bar staff, Youngs Ordinary and Winter Ale on offer, both in good condition. Expensive but standard for this area of London.

3 Jan 2012 11:33

The Warrington Hotel, Maida Vale

Great internal and external architecture. If only the beer matched. Only two real ales on when we visited and they were almost identical in Adnams Broadside and Adnams Yuletide. Surely any pub serious about real ale should offer a contrast in flavours/styles as Broadside is not exactly a session beer. I spoke to a regular at the bar who was rather unimpressed with the management company who had taken over from Gordon Ramsey

3 Jan 2012 10:50

The Cleveland Arms, Bayswater

Great traditional pub with well kept beer, competitive prices and a friendly and helpful barman. Timothy Taylor's, Harveys and a winter ale when we visited. Free bar snacks much appreciated. Well worth a visit if in the area
