The Fox And Hounds, Denmead

A great pub, with many a glorious Wednesday night spent there over the last 5 years - but currently (and sadly) shut.

The Wheatsheaf, Shedfield

Another vote for this straight-forward pub. The food availability is hit and miss but if you want grub, go to one of the many pubs in the area that offer it. If you want good, reasonably priced beer, go here.

White Horse Inn, Litton Cheney

Have visited this pub a few times now whilst visiting the area. The beer is always good and the food is OK. Popular with locals and right next door to a Youth Hostel. It seems like they have music nights as well.

The Crown Inn, Puncknowle

We camped down at Home Farm this weekend and was unsure about visiting this pub after reading the reviews on here. I knew the White Horse up the road and had suggested we went there instead but our friends who arrived earlier on the Friday had already gone to the Crown and had found both the beer and the steak and ale pie superb. Based on their experience, we booked a table for 10 last night and all thoroughly enjoyed the food and the drink - all reasonably priced for the area. We didn't find the landlord or the staff the least bit unpleasant or grumpy, the service was efficient and courteous. I mentioned this site and the comments posted on it to the landlord and promised that I would put a review up as soon as I came home as it seems our experience of The Crown was very different to other people's.

The Hole in The Wall, Southsea

Still my favourite pub in Portsmouth if not in the UK. Great beer and a good atmosphere. Will be at the beer festival for sure.

The Bridge Tavern, Portsmouth

Reading the reviews, I wonder if people are talking about the same pub I visit regularly. I have found the food consistently of good quality and for a pub, good value. As for the beer, Fullers offer a range of ales for most tastes and I've never had a duff pint of Pride at the Bridge. I've found the staff helpful and to illustrate this, although the chowder was not on the menu, they rustled two bowls up for us which was excellent service in my opinion. Yes, it's a Fullers pub but I reckon the staff and management there are trying their best to make it a bit different. Keep up the good work.

The Fox And Hounds, Denmead

I don't know about sparklers and foghorns but if you want good, reasonably priced beer in Denmead, this is the best pub to visit. I have found the landlord and landlady consistently accomodating and friendly as are the staff which is a welcome change to other pubs in the area. I should add that we have visited the pub at least once a month for the last 2 years and have never found it any different.

The India Arms, Portsmouth

The pub has reopened and serves good ales - complimentary to the Hole in The Wall next door.

The place is well laid out and has some great areas to chill out in.

The Tiffin is definitely worth a go and Monday nights sees Indian snacks on the bar.

Worth a visit.

The Dolphin, Plymouth

What other pub can you go to and sing with three complete strangers, get your fortune read, have a robust discussion about absolute nonsense and get Bass straight form the barrel? In my experience, only this one.

Notably, where other pubs on the Barbican need bouncers on the door, it is interesting to note that the Dolphin has none.

Long may it remain that way.
