The Bull, Horton Kirby

The Bull has everything I like about a pub: friendly locals, dedicated landlord & landlady, superb ale, comfortable yet traditional interior, delightful beer garden (with stunning views), home-cooked lunches and, at least on my recent visit, Darkstar Hophead on draught and in tip-top condition! Their regular "brewery showcases" and beer festivals look like a lot of fun and I'll be doing my best to make it for the Brewdog Brewery showcase at the beginning of April (check out their Facebook page for details). This is kind of pub that makes drinking in Britain so special and long may it continue. Porter was correct; "Heaven on earth". Cheers!

The Bon Accord, Glasgow

Top pub. Recent visit included superb real ale in the form of BrewDog Hype and some great value food (check out their special 2-course offers!). Never had any problem with beer quality from this fine establishment. Highly recommended.

Cheers!

Thomson's, Edinburgh

A real gem! As mentioned in previous reviews, 8 real ales to choose from and, on my recent visit, Dark Star Hophead was on offer and in excellent form. The ambience of the place is warm and relaxed with a good mix of clientele. Definitely worth a visit when in town.

Cheers!

Jemmy Hirst at the Rose and Crown, Rawcliffe

My last review said that the Jemmy "had gone from strength to strength" and I'm pleased to say that my synopsis has not changed a bit.

This pub must be visited by anyone into supporting the survival of one the last remaining British community institutions - the pub!

Why, oh why, doesn't this site offer an "11" rating?

Enjoy and cheers!

The Bricklayers Arms, Putney

I have a lot of empathy for "trainman" but my visit today was reciprocated with a full range of well-conditioned Taylor beers plus four Blindman's beers (including the stunning Eclipse porter).

Great beer, warm atmosphere and increasingly entertaining background music!

Dissapointment is thankfully rare.

Well worth a visit.

Cheers!

The Harp, Covent Garden

Fantastic pub! Quality and range of beers is a rare treat for this area of the city. Can get a little crowded at times although there is usually space to enjoy your pint outside or the no-smoking room upstairs. Cheers!

The Wheatsheaf Inn, Burn

Characterful pub with a dedication to quality real ales and great value food. I would recommend the Sunday lunch and ales (usually at least one available) from the local Brown Cow Brewery. Cheers!

The Failford Inn, Failford

Visited the Failford Inn on a recent trip to Ayr and I must say that this pub is a real classic. The pub has a wonderful, warm character and a great atmosphere supplemented by good food and great ale.

The only downside to speak of was the fact that only two ales were available during our visit on a busy Friday evening. That said, the ales offered and subsequently imbibed (Kelburn Misty Law and a porter-style beer by the in-house brewery, Windie Goat) were in superb condition and worth the trip alone.

Cheers!

The Plough, Greetham

A very nice pub. Good range of well-kept ales and the tasty food is very reasonably priced. Despite the pub's proximity to the A1, it retains all the character and charm of a thriving village local. Well worth a visit when in the area or travelling north<->south. Cheers!

Trafalgar Freehouse, South Wimbledon

What a great little pub! Always a great range of ales including, on my recent visit, Hophead (clearly one of my favourites!) and all the beers sampled were in outstanding condition. Add to that the convivial atmosphere and quirky charm, then I'd say this establishment is well worth a visit when in the Wimbledon area. Cheers!

The Bricklayers Arms, Putney

A fantastic pub! Visited here on Sunday for the first time only to be greeted with a full compliment of Taylor beers (including Ram Tam) which were all in remarkable condition - a real testament to the dedication and hard work of the Licensee and staff. The pub has a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere, sense of character and is very welcoming to visitors despite retaining the warm feel of a classic British local. Oh, and the food (in this case, Sunday lunch) was superb. I'll be back - regularly. Cheers!

The Evening Star, Brighton

As a regular user of this website for pub recommendations, I have been a bit annoyed at some of the negative comments made about the Evening Star.

The beer has, without exception, been in fantastic condition and the Hophead has been responsible for some of the nicest and best-conditioned pints I've ever tasted - and I've tried a few!

The bar staff are friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere perfectly conducive to a little conversation and plenty of ale.

Well worth a visit in my humble opinion.

The Rising Sun, Epsom

Fantastic pub! Travelled here from Greenwich but it was definitely worth the commute. Great real ales and a very knowledgeable landlord who recommended a superb beer; but I forgot to take its name! It was an extremely full-flavoured bottle of stout for those interested - Dave, can you help?!

I came here with my brother, Chris, and met with Phil (barman) and his girlfriend. Also had the priveldge of meeting their friend Dan who was on his way back to Oz...hope he made the flight by the way ;-)

Anyway, this was our first time to Epsom and The Rising Sun was by far the best establishment sampled that day. Well worth dropping-in if you're in the area.

Jemmy Hirst at the Rose and Crown, Rawcliffe

This pub continues to go from strength to strength. Timothy Taylor Landlord is supplemented by three constantly changing real ales (to date they have had over 500 different beers!).

The beer quality, ambience and welcome is second to none and this has been recognised by several awards including local CAMRA's Pub of The Year 2004 and again in 2005.

A visit to this pub is not only highly recommended, it is mandatory if you are in the area...cheers!

The Magpie and Crown, Brentford

This pub is great! The beer is always in fantastic condition and the constantly rotating range is impressive...usually at least one darker beer which is always appreciated :-)

I am by no means a local and can normally only visit maybe once a month, but I have always found the pub friendly and welcoming. I would certainly recommend this establishment to anyone who enjoys drinking proper beer in a proper pub.

Cheers!
