The Red Lion, Handcross

Group of 6, for late lunch today, had drinks in the bar. Then went through to restaurant. Food excellent. A couple of fussy eaters, nothing fazed the great staff. Everything we asked for arrived. The two chaps looking after us, were great, very patient as we spent a long time gossiping and catching up, rather than ordering!

A great pub, FANTASTIC food (many special offers). Lovely staff... The main chap looking after us, Sean, was excellent!!

Ths isn't your typical everyday pub, and we couldn't afford to go there every week (sadly). 2 large glasses of wine and a diet coke were 18.95. Which might explain why it was so quiet! But I m sure it's popular for special occasions.

Everyone said what a great meal and lovely service. Thank you Sean and team

The Queens Arms, St Just

Booked for Sunday lunch, 3 of us. Lovely welcome, very smiley staff, drinks ordered at bar then shown to our table! Good selection of Cornish ales/cider... The Press Gang cider, being great! VERY generous sized portions! Roast beef with traditional Yorkshire pudding etc... Delicious! Starter of tempura veggies... Again great portions!

Would love to sample one of their "special nights" such as Pie/curry nights as imagine it would be well worth it!

Being only a few minutes from the South West Coastal path at the crown mines, Botallack, it's very handy for walkers... And WELL worth the diversion!!!

Will be back and would heartily recommend it!!

The Frogshole Farm, Maidenbower

Well credit where credits due, the actual service has really improved and there doesn't seem to be as many out of control kids!

Plus there are some really fit staff working there! Both boys and, if you're inclined that way, girls as well;-)

Again, the problem with this pub is it can't cope with a busy Sunday lunchtime and either doesn't want to or can't be bothered to control the children! It's like a crche at times. If you want a quiet lunch...without a screaming accompaniment then AVOID this place until the staff start enforcing basic pub rules!

The Old Plough House Inn, Duloe

Sadly this pub has gone the way of many, and is now closed and up for sale

The Snooty Fox, Three Bridges

The best thing that could happen to this pub is demolish it and start again! It could be such a great pub, great passing place, people meeting up before taking the train etc.

But instead it's full of chavs n work dodgers who's only aim in life is to get drunk as quickly as possible! The food is cheap, but thats only because it comes straight from the deep fat fryer or microwave!! Staff don't care a less, but that could be because of the 'customers' they have to deal with on a daily basis!

Move the chavs n grandads and dads pretending to be 20 again, to the jubilee oak or brewery shades.. And start again! I find it hard to believe that this place hasn't been raided by the police, given the amount of under aged kids and druggies in there! Mind you I'm scared to go in there, so wouldn't be surprised if they felt the sane... I wouldn't blame em

The Cowdray Arms, Balcombe

I agree with duckdod! This is a country pub/restaurant masquerading as a London gastro pub. Yes pubs need to diversify... But serving fish n chips at over 10 a meal, I expect more than battered cod stylishly balance on aprox 8 chips stacked up Jenga style. My bugbear with pubs us when they ruin traditional British dishes by making them into some sort of modern art exhibit!

Leave that to big cities n Michelin star restaurants... Not country pubs!

The food is good, staff ok, but the style they are trying to emulate is totally out of place with a place like The Cowdray, an old coaching in on the old London to Brighton Road

The Hillside Inn, Crawley

Hillside has always been hit n miss with both food n service. It's either brilliant or appaling... No happy medium. For pub food, the prices are fairly high, but portions are a bit stingy...beer battered mushrooms... 4... With small pot of garlic mayo, bulked out with lettuce... And at just under a fiver per portion is NOT good value...! They do do some good meal deals, which helps!

All in all it's reasonable... But like SO many pubs in this part of Crawley they can't handle busy times!

The Frogshole Farm, Maidenbower

This is a great pub, reasonable food... Though the actual consistency is a bit hit and miss on the food front! Agree with several others, some of the staff need a course on customer service... One of them, I think he's the assistant manager... Is SO miserable! He obviously hates his job and it shows. You're lucky to get a grunt out of him , there's a couple of young lads n lasses and an older lady who works there and are great! But the owner n ass manager, please find a job that you actually enjoy doing!

Being on an estate there are lots of kids... But a few of the parents don't seem to have any control over them!! A few Sundays there were kids running riot, no one seemed to care. Kids as young as 10 at the bar and a young lad, maybe 4 or 5 playing on a gaming machine...both could get the landlords license revoked!

Nice enough pub, but needs a change of management, they're ruining it!
