The Red Lion, Snargate

Visited this wonderful little pub a couple of years ago and glad to read it's not lost its character and still serving the excellent Goachers Imperial Stout! I hope to return one day to enjoy this perfect country pub.

The Royal Oak, Borough

First visited this wonderful pub back in 2003 and very pleased to find it's not changed. Usually stocks the full range of Harveys excellent Sussex ales, at least five (Best, IPA, Mild, Armada and either Old or Olympia) at one time plus a seasonal (different one for most months) or one-off brew. Bizzarly, you usually don't find this range of Harveys in their three Lewes pubs! A Sussex oasis in south London - deserves a visit and top marks.

The White Dog, Ewhurst Green

Well off the beaten track but worth finding on a summers afternoon to sit in the garden enjoying the lovely views across the Rother valley towards Bodiam Castle. Harveys seems to be always on alongside London Pride and on a recent visit Wells Bombardier.

The Bell Inn, Walberswick

A superb Adnams pub serving a great selection of their ales. Visited on a very busy weekend but plenty of room and staff so got a table and served quickly at the bar. Recommended!

The Brewers Arms, Lewes

The Brewers has improved for non-smokers recently with the smoking ban in the front bar. Food is good and served quickly. Ale is very good. Always has Harveys Sussex Best Bitter as well as two or three guest ales - often from far afield (For example this week Hardy & Hansons Olde Trip which was in very good condition). In the top three or four Lewes pubs.

The White Horse Inn, Bodle Street Green

Visited early on a quiet Sunday evening and were only customers! Excellent pint of Thwaites Lancaster Bomber, also had Harveys Sussex Best Bitter.

The Horse and Groom, Rushlake Green

This is one of my locals and visted for the first time in a while this week. Dissapointed to see the Harveys Sussex Best Bitter gone now all three pumps have Shepherd Neame ales. The Kents Best Invicta Ale was in good condition but the Spitfire was firing blanks! Tired and lifeless. The other ale was Master Brew which I didn't try. Food is priced higher than normal pub food but it is good quality. Best thing is the location - over looking the pretty village green.

Coalbrookdale Inn, Coalbrookdale

Visited on a quite Tuesday lunchtime and found the landlord and staff very freindly, the choice of ales is very good (and well kept) and the food wonderful and not too expensive. If you're visiting the area it's certainly worth the short journey away from Ironbridge itself.

The Lord Nelson, Burnham Thorpe

A gem of a pub. Several different rooms, beer served from a single hatch, Plenty of Nelson memorabilia as I believe this was his local! Well kept Norfolk ales go down a treat as well as the good food.

The Fat Cat, Norwich

Don't understand how this isn't a 10/10 from everyone! Paradise. Had an excellent pint of Gales Festival Mild (probably my last due to it's closure). Probably the greatest range of ales, bottled beers (inc. Belgian) in the country?

The Black Horse Inn, Lewes

This is a Greene King pub in Harveys home town - despite this the staff are friendly, the food is good and the beer is kept well. I usually enjoy the guest ales which are usually from Ridleys (now part of the GK empire) or Brains of Cardiff. Could do with more variety of guest beers but this goes for GK pubs in general. Worth a visit to enjoy the old phots of Lewes pubs past and present and a better pub than its two neighbours (Meridian and Pelham Arms).

Nags Head, Sunningdale Village

Difficult to find tucked down a side street but worth it. Friendly staff, great Harveys ales.

The Gardeners Arms, Lewes

Easily the best pub in Lewes - and there's some very good competition! Always an excellent choice of ales and very friendly staff and atmosphere.

The Crown, Heathfield

Poor. Go down the road to the Prince of Wales instead!

The Berwick Inn, Berwick

As this website is called 'beer in the evening' I rate the pub on its beer. The Harveys Sussex Best is the only ale available and is served through a sparkler making it unpalatable. I only give it a 2 rating for the fairly decent food - but it's nothing special. There are much better pubs near by so no reason to go here!
