The King James, Cheshunt

No improvement at this very poor Wetherspoons. The management seem oblivious to the group who sit near the door every day and who are allowed to swear constantly. The pub itself is rundown and in bad need of some TLC. As for the beers, on a visit on Tuesday most real ale pumps where turned around. It did not seem to matter as most customers were drinking Lager or John Smiths!

The Dog Inn, Nether Whitacre

Lovely friendly pub. Had the Castle Rock Pale in super condition, Timothy Taylor Landlord also on. Friendly staff and good wholesome food. I will return.

The Park Tavern, Eltham

First visit found when walking the Capital Ring. On our mid week visit eight beers on including Hogsback tea and Hobgoblin both in excellent condition. Food was good and the barmaid friendly and efficient, a nice pub

The Old Cross Tavern, Hertford

Continues to be a great pub serving good beers in tip top condition. My only negative is that the Belgium Beers are running low and the variety has all but gone. Come on Bev get a decent supplier, please !!!!

The Fox and Hounds, Barley

It's open and what a welcome addition to the real ale pubs of Hertfordshire. Beers from the pubs owners Falstaff Brewery (Phoenix) and brews from Red Squirrel; Buntingford and Dark Star. The Phoenix and Red Squirrels rebanded Redwood (Late American IPA) particularly in good form.

Pub nicely refurbished without loosing it's old charm. A bit of a drive for me, but I will be returning on a regular basis (hopefully with one of my daughters driving next time !!!!).

Well done to all concerned with saving this lovely pub and serving well conditioned beers.

The White Horse, High Cross

Visited at lunchtime today during a stroll around Wadsmill and High Cross. My first visit but not my last. Lovely pub, pleasant friendly bar maid. Menu looks interesting and, by previous accounts, very good. We had a lunchtime sandwich which was well presented with chips and a nice salad.

On to the beers three were on offer Young's bitter, GK IPA and Adnam's Bitter. Three safe beers, we had the Young's and Adnams which were both in first class condition. Did spot an (alas) empty barrel of Skinner's Betty Stoggs out back.

Well worth a visit and I will be back to try both the evening menu and a few more beers.

The Old Cross Tavern, Hertford

In on a Sunday evening and again on a quiet Monday night. Oxt Ale on sale at 2 a pint and the Lemon Dream was superb, that with a couple of Belgium Beers and good company and the world is a better place.

The White Horse, Hertford

In on Sunday evening on a trip around three Hertford pubs. Gales HSB and Seafarer were the best of the beers but not inspiring. Of the three pubs visited better than the Black Horse but far behind the Old Cross Tavern

The Black Horse, Hertford

Visited Sunday evening. A friendly welcome but on the whole a disappointment. IPA, Abbot and Old Trip on. Only tried the Old Trip which was acceptable. About a dozen locals in including a group playing poker in one corner. Overall impression is a pub which has seen better times.

The Woodman, Ware

A sunny Thursday afternoon, two superb Green King ales and the Woodman's platter eaten in the garden, with Robins, Blackbirds, Chickens and ducks all around. What better way to spend a lunch time. Forget your prejudice about Green King enjoy the beers here straight from the wood, you won't taste a better pint. Enjoy

The Lordship Arms, Benington

Had a ride out on Monday for a first visit to this pub. Driving so only tried a pint and a half. Both beers Morehouse Black Cat mild and Broken Britain from a Salford brewery in top condition. Four other ales on. Only two people in but friendly. A must if you are a real ale drinker and in the area. Ps You dont need a sat nav. Just follow the road signs and use common sense.

The Jolly Gardeners, Vauxhall

Was MRLONDON in the right pub? I was here Friday evening with a group of friends who were visiting for the first time. Their verdict. A great pub, great beers good food and the service was good. Don't be put of by Mr London or the location, take a walk down Lambeth Way to a great pub.

The Old Cross Tavern, Hertford

I love this pub, there again Saturday lunchtime. Five real ales on, two ciders plus a small but safe range of Belgium beers. The pubs own brew "Laugh and Titter" is good. Also serving ale from the local Red Squirrel brewery and the Morehouse Bitter was excellent.

The King James, Cheshunt

What has the 99p Greene King IPA done to this place. Gone are the collection of 5 or 6 ales. Last night the only real ale was pedegree at 99p (two other ales with clips showing) were not on and a bottled Leffe (also advertised) was not available. Could this be the reason for the poor turn out in the pub

This pub is no more, having been closed and pulled down for housing.

The King James, Cheshunt

Wetherspoons barn type pub but one of the better ones. Beer always well kept and usually one or two Dark Beers (Last week Old Peulier and O' Hanlons Port Stout). A mild is listed for this week. Never seen any trouble (as mentioned in a previous report) but then my usual time is between 5 and 7 weekdays. Shame about the Harold Dark, bring it back please Tim.

The Good Intent, Puttenham

Found the Good Intent while walking the North Downs Way. Why can't more pubs be like this. Six real ales including a ruby stout in excellent condition. Friendly pub of locals, their dogs and walkers. The food is well priced and excellent value. If you are in the area its a must.
