The Victoria Stakes, Muswell Hill

This horrible Gastropub serves an important function in keeping it's pretenitious snooty and trendier than thou cusomers out of other local establishments and as such is vitally important to local residents...

The Hope and Anchor, Hornsey

Nice, but not outstanding in any way shape or form...

The Harringay Arms, Crouch End

Traditional Old Pub, reminds me of an old style Country Inn in decoration and atmosphere. Not entirely my cup of tea but I can see why it is well liked.

The Railway Tavern, Crouch End

Horrible Gastropub. The manager smells unpleasent and it is decorated like a Soho knocking shop!

The Wishing Well, Crouch End

Nice enough, not the sort of place that stands out in my mind for any real reason good or bad. The word inoffensive sums it up nicely!

The Queens Hotel, Crouch End

Typical Gastropub, they can't wait to get rid of you unless you go into the resturaunt and order vastly overpriced offal. The only real redeeming feature of this place is the architecture which is truly breathtaking and only bettered by the Salisbury Hotel and The Great Northern Railway Tavern, unless the the Gastrosnobs that populate it drive you out before you can appreciate it.

The Hornsey Tavern, Hornsey

Fluctuates wildly between a very friendly and jolly local pub to something akin to the film Deliverance. If you go in at the right time you will be made to feel welcome and right at home, if you go in at the wrong time the regulars will make you feel unwelcome until you drink up ,and you and leave and let them get back to their dueling banjos!

Three Compasses, Hornsey

A nice enough place, just a little bit corporate and souless for my tastes. A pub designed for more affluent people in the New River estate...

The Great Northern Railway Tavern, Hornsey

P.S. The pub now serves cask ale, further to review from Stronger on 1/09/2009.

The Great Northern Railway Tavern, Hornsey

From an aesthetic point of view, probably the finest pub in North London, from a drinkers point of view one of the best. Joe, the boss, makes a point of introducing himself to all customers and helps to make a very welcoming atmosphere, along with the friendly locals (which I count myself among!) . The chef serves up some of the best thai food this side of Bangkok and it is all reasonably priced, where else can you get a thai green curry for 5.00? The words that sum it up are the words on the pub's flyer " A Traditional London Pub, With
A Warm Irish Welcome". If you don't believe anything said here come and make your own mind up!
