The George Hotel, Castleton

I visited the George two or three times during my two day stay in Castleton this week. I did not eat there, so I cannot comment on the food, but the bar staff were very friendly, there was a large selection of Malt Whiskies on offer and two real ales. We took part in the Monday Night Quiz, which was great fun and organised by one of the friendly locals. A proper, traditional pub offering a friendly welcome to locals and tourists alike.

Bulls Head Hotel, Castleton

A well presented establishment, offering good decor, comfortable surroundings, a decent pint and very good food at a reasonable price. Well worth a visit if you are in the area in the near future.

The Peaks Inn, Castleton

I did not enjoy my visit to this pub at all. The beer was flat and lifeless, the staff were not at all welcoming or friendly and there was a distinct lack of atmosphere throughout the establishment. I am not suprised to see it is up for sale - I will certainly not be returning in the near future.

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Inn, Castleton

A great selection of beers in a welcoming, comfortable atmosphere. I was on the Farmers Blonde (Bradfield Brewery) throughout both of my visits to the Cheese this week, although there were at least 4 or 5 other real ales available if I fancied a change, but I can honestly say it was one of the best beers I have had the pleasure to drink - well kept and well served. My party ate here one night and found all of our meals to be excellent quality, especially the desserts, although perhaps a little pricy compared to the competition nearby. I have no hesitation in recommending the Cheshire Cheese to all and will certainly be popping in again when I am next in the area.
