Gerry Macs, Greenford

I can't comment on what it's like in the evenings but I regularly use it during the day at weekends and it's very good. Polite and friendly management and staff, good atmosphere, always clean, TV or music playing but not too intrusively, beer fine. They don't serve meals, but all the better for that in my opinion as it's quite small and not really geared up for family dining. Recommended as a good, friendly local watering-hole.

Emeralds, Greenford

Excellent irish pub to while away a weekend afternoon. Nice friendly staff and nice friendly crowd. Reo-pening today after a couple of weeks closed for change of manager and a bit of a refurb. I do hope it hasn't changed too much.

The Red Lion, Greenford

Recently started using this pub for a few beers on weekend afternoons.

It's nothing special but it's a friendly enough and comfortable enough place, and the staff are polite and friendly, if a little disorganised at times.

A bit too "family oriented" for my liking - too many kids running about sometimes - but generally a decent if unremarkable town centre boozer.

The Lyceum, Strand

I sometimes pop in here to meet a friend for a quick couple of pints after work.

Considering its location is usually seems to be remarkably (and mercifully!) tourist-free. The upstairs bar in particular is very comfortable, and the prices and service are both good.

I will say that the food looks pretty unappetising but since I have never actually eaten in there myself I could be doing it an injustice.

And of course Tom, the new assistant manager. I knew I'd forget somebody! :-(

Greystoke, Ealing

Just to reiterate my previous post, Lee has not only made this a great pub again but he has assembled a great team. Kate, Brenda, James, Karah and the others are fantastic. (Oops! I'm bound to have peed somebody off by forgetting them.)

I should add for the sake of balance that I only use "The Greystoke" in the afternoon, so I don't know what it's like in the evening but I haven't heard of any trouble.

If it's excitement you want from a pub then I suggest you go to Ealing Broadway where there are several 'exciting' pubs. If you want to relax with a beer or three in convivial surroundings then you couldn't do better than "The Greystoke", just over the road from North Ealing Station on the Piccadilly Line.

Oh, and there is a bookies next door as well if that's your thing.

Further to me previous review, I would just like to say that Lee has improved enormously. Perhaps I was being unfair. This is a great pub again.

The Captains Cabin, Piccadilly

I use this pub occasionally when I meet a friend for a quick drink after work. Seems a reasonable enough pub to me and so far I have found the staff to be fine. Remarkably uncrowded as well considering its location.

I'm sorry to say that I agree with those posters who have said that this once superb pub has gone downhill since the new manager, Lee, took over.

Admittedly Mark was exceptional, but Lee just doesn't seem interested and appears to view customers as an inconvenience. At times he is just plain rude.

Such a shame.

The Allsop Arms, Marylebone

I pop in here occasionally for a quick pint on my way home from work if I have a bit of time to kill before catching the train from Marylebone.

It's a perfectly decent pub for that sort of thing although I wouldn't use it for a long session or go out of my way to visit it.

The Plumbers Arms, Victoria

Hi BobbyV,

You are correct. It is the "Lady Lucan" pub. And a very good pub it is too!

The Grafton Arms, Fitzrovia

Fairly average smallish London pub, but not unpleasant.

The Prince of Wales Feathers, Warren Street

Went with friends for a few drinks here after work last night and was pretty impressed. Quite comfortable, cheap beer and efficient bar staff. Wouldn't go out of my way to visit it, but it's definitely where I'd head for if I was in the area and fancied a drink.

The Kings Arms, Waterloo

What a smashing pub this is, hidden away in a back street near to Waterloo Station. The small front bar has real traditional atmosphere, the larger back bar is spacious and comfortable, and there is a great choice of beers. Got busy in the evening with people popping in after work, but there were plenty of efficient staff so getting served was no problem. Highly recommended. (Thanks to Jo H "Zone 1 Bird" and Rachel B "Posh Bird" for introducing me to this little gem.)

The North Star, Ealing

Absolutely, realalesnob. I couldn't agree more. Used to be the best pub in Ealing until the refit - now just another trendy "bar" - as if there weren't already enough of those in Ealing. If you don't mind the walk (or a short 83 bus ride) to North Ealing try the Greystoke. It has a similar feel to how this place used to be.

The Fentiman Arms, Kennington

Definitely agree about the staff. I was there with colleagues one lunchtime and some of them ordered steak sandwiches - some well-done, some medium. When they were brought to our table we asked which were which. "Don't know mate" came the reply, "I'm just the delivery boy".

To be fair, the food isn't bad but at their prices I would expect some level of politeness from the staff.

Greystoke, Ealing

Recently started using this pub on a Sunday lunchtime and have been well impressed. It's smart, clean and tidy, the staff are brilliant and really friendly, and the beer is very reasonably priced and very well kept. They even show Test Match cricket on the tv! What more could anybody want? (A Bangladeshi/Indian restaurant a few doors away doing a Sunday buffet perhaps? No problem...)
