The Angel of the South, Southampton

Superb, really friendly pub with great music (usually rock)! If you like trendy plastic high street pubs then The Angel is not for you but if you like proper pubs it's great. The Landlord's legendary free drinks quiz is fantastic and the cocktails are good too.

Chicago Rock Cafe, Southampton

Er no...Chicago Rock definitely changed into Ocean and Collins. The Firehouse used to be Strikers and the Parkside Tavern before that.

The Lord Palmerston, Southampton

CLOSED. Now the Lord Palmerston.

The Pilgrim, Liverpool

A great friendly pub where the table tops all have a mosaic on spelling out the names of various types of beer! A bit studenty perhaps but great none the less

The Philharmonic, Liverpool

This is one of the most beautiful pubs I have ever been in, it feels more being in a palace than a pub!

The Lion Tavern, Liverpool

This place is a real gem! The Victorian interior is stunning and the range of beers on offer is great. They also have home made cheeses!

Doctor Duncans, Liverpool

A great pub with a good range of beers and a fantastic Victorian tiled interior that is worth a look alone.

The Baltic Fleet, Liverpool

This pub really is a hidden gem, most tourists wouldn't see it as it's on the periphery of the city centre, hence it tends to be fairly quiet which is good if you want a nice quiet drink. The interior is basical but welcoming but the star attraction here is definitely the range of excellent Wapping beers, brewed at the pub!

The Richmond Inn, Portswood

Great range of ales, very friendly and nice cosy decor. Exactly how a pub should be. The garden is magical. The till is a real metal Victorian one - none of this shiny plastic rubbish!

Humble Plum, Bitterne

Lovely cosy pub, good range of ales.

11 May 2007 09:46

The Glen Eyre Hall Bar, Bassett

Students only - if you're not a student, you ain't getting in. :(

11 May 2007 09:45

The Crown and Sceptre, Bassett

Nice wood paneling, large Mock Tudor pub. Has ales but they were all Off when I visited. Seemed friendly enough, albeit dead.

Went in there on a Monday night and it was Dead. Nothing special at all.

Willows Wine Bar, Southampton

From the outside, it looks a bit like another pretentious wine bar but inside this place has a really nice atmosphere and they actually serve Ringwood Best Bitter. Really nice decor and friendly as well.

11 May 2007 09:40

The Wellington Arms, Southampton

Superb range of proper beer, nice garden. Looks tiny from the outside but is huge inside with lots of interesting little rooms including a non-smoking room!

11 May 2007 09:38

Tonic Bar and Kitchen, Southampton

It's closed (now Bar Ice)

11 May 2007 09:35

Talisman, Southampton

Great range of beer, good food, good service and nice decor. I visited on a Sunday lunchtime and it was fairly quiet.

11 May 2007 09:35

Seymours, Southampton

Small, dull, anonymous, no proper beer.

11 May 2007 09:32

Royal Oak, Southampton

One of Southampton's best pubs for entertainment, fantastic karaoke night on Mondays (probably the best karaoke night in Southampton, the song list books are the most comprehensive by a long way), open mic night, quiz, live music, pool, darts, quiz machines...what more could you want?

It's always friendly and lively and there's never any trouble although somebody recently stole a Urinal from the gents...it was recovered by the Police and is now a decorative feature!
