The Willoughby Arms, Kingston Upon Thames
First time in here New Years Eve eve, but was impressed by the decor (stuffed animal heads), ambience (locals with their greyhounds & other assorted dogs), beer range, and general scruffy, relaxed atmosphere of the whole place. My kind of pub, where I can feel unthreatened and just soak up the atmosphere, as well as a few pints.

Pretentious and over-priced. �5 for 2 halves of Leffe. Not worth it.

Im converted! I like this place, but made me feel like I was at Butlins. different Cheap beers (Thin Ice - very nice), good cheap meals, hard-working attentive staff, close to the tube, in-house magazine, Tvs, not showing boring football, music but not too loud, comfy settees, in fact, everything. Spoons are trying hard to be all things to all people. They do coffee n tea etc. Brilliant.

Went for the first time last night, Friday. It was empty. Not a Real Ale pub by any stretch of the imagination and it is small. A unique place though, and it has a certain charm and character that means I will be going back. Loved it. No pretense here. Wysiwyg.

Basically a large house that serves beer and food. Its like being at a party in someones house, except you pay.
A 'pint' of Pilsner Urquell cost �3. Problem for me was that it was poured with an inch of froth on the top, which may be how they drink it in Czechoslovakia, but this is London, so got them to replace the 'air' with beer. I won't be going back.

The problem with posting a high rating for a pub is that more people will go there. OK, Im stating the bleeding obvious, but there are lots of pubs that are really good and you want to keep them a secret. What did I like about this pub? It was a Tuesday afternoon and basically empty. I love empty pubs. I wanted the strawberry beer. That was off. But have I tried the Special or the Wheatbeer or the stout or, or, or. In all I was given 5 or 6 different beers to try before I settled for the excellent Special at 7.5%. My kind of beer in my kind of pub.

The Strutton Arms, Westminster
I like the small 'booths' along the right hand wall.
I like the 2 meals for �8 which are very good value.
I like the friendly staff.
I like that there could be a group of japanese tourists and american tourists and local workers in there all at the same time, as was the case when I went.
Better on the inside than appears from the outside.

The Kings Arms Bar and Hotel, Brentford
Like so many pubs, so much potential gone to waste.
Its close to the A4 and Brentford mainline station.
Looks unappealing from outside, marginally better inside.
The Globe has more appeal, as does the Magpie & Crown

Good points. Close to Alperton Tube Stn. Serves lunches 12-3 (not Sundays), 2 for �5.90, fish&chips, scampi n chips, burgers etc. Fosters �2.60 per pint. John Smiths.
Small beer garden beside canal. Staff seem OK.
Bad points (from my point of view). Pool table, Sports TV. No decent or real ales. Looks a bit run-down.
General Observations
Next to busy road. Customers predominantly male, 35+, white, locals. Seems to be trying to improve business but somehow not quite hard enough, has potential though.

This is a GREAT pub. Not noisy, no big screen TV (thank god), Wadworths 6X, Strange men with bald heads and huge moustaches, great value THAI food served by friendly THAI men, immitation log gas fire, millions of things to look at on walls & ceiling. What more could you possibly want in a pub?

Absolute S**t. Go to the REAL Windsor Castle, 27-29 Crawford Place, Marble Arch, 10 minutes brisk walk from this noisy dump.

Cycled here from CHESTER-LE-STREET last year with my brother in law. We were both suitably impressed with the pub, the food, the staff, the beer, the plans for the brewery, the food, the atmosphere and the food. Now they have their own beers, I can't wait to get there again.

Doesn't look much from the outside, not very flash "beer garden", old treadle sewing machines for tables, but this pub has got that certain something to make it a place you want to go to again, its welcoming, friendly, non-threatening, calm, relaxing and sort of peaceful. I wish all pubs were like this.

The Magpie and Crown, Brentford
Im not a regular, nor do I live in Brentford but I do like this pub a lot. The bloke who runs it seems to know what he is talking about and is enthusiastic about what he sells. I like strong beer and have recently got to like Belgian trappist beers. This pub sells them, so I will come again.

The Old Thameside Inn, London Bridge
Friday night, forget it if you are over 30.
Good views of river and not too many pubs have a reconstruction of the Golden Hinde for scenery. Wouldn't recommend it to friends.

Doggetts Coat and Badge, Southwark
As you approach, it conjures up images of 2nd world war coastal defences. I visited on a Friday night and it was very busy and noisy (obviously). I will be going again, in summer, during a quiet week-day afternoon, when I can hopefully enjoy the promising riverside views. Not as bad as it looks from the approach.

Visited for 1st time last night to get a free T shirt in the Dick Whittington Ale Trail. Pub decorated for Halloween which added to the visual experience, which is very interesting. Was crowded inside so sat outside for a while, traffic a bit too much. Will be going again, but not on a Friday night.

How can you see Market St and the Harbour from the Whittington Cat? You cant Keith, so go and have another look.

Lovely building. Another good Fullers/Thai combo pub which I visited once and felt welcomed and relaxed straight away.

Went on a Friday night, music was too loud for me, who needs music in a pub anyway, lets have a conversation for Christs sake. Fullers pub, fullers beer, but not fullers atmosphere. Tick it off the list, move on to Cross Keys

The Grey Horse, Kingston Upon Thames
First time there, with friends who live local. Don't go to music pubs now, as although I like the music, it is usually played way too loudly for my ageing ears. Would go in again though, when there was no band on, as I felt there was a good atmosphere in the place.
