The Dog and Partridge, Kings Langley

Popped in with my Labrador halfway through a long Sunday afternoon stroll along the nearby canal - a warm welcome for both of us (including a complimentary treat for my mutt) and a cracking pint of Tribute. I hope to make a habit of visiting the Dog and Partridge.

The Piper, Kettering

Popped in before the Kettering v Fulham FA Cup game. A handful of friendly Kettering punters made us feel welcome and the landlord, who has been there for many years, has a nice clean pub with a well-maintained pool table and modern jukebox. Food was plentiful and the beers were good - the Cottage Brunel was so tasty I nearly missed the match. Cracking lunchtime pub.

Bankes Arms Hotel and Country Inn, Studland

I always go to Swanage on summer holiday and always visit this place. This time round, the pleasant east European barmaid didn't know what scrumpy was - a bit of a faux pas in Dorset. Service was poor and I've always avoided the food. The beer festival was good though, with a nice vibe/music and there is a fabulous view across Studland Bay from the massive garden. The nearby South Beach is great, family-friendly and allows dogs. National Trust car park right next to the pub.

The Sutton Arms, Barbican

Arrived at this pub in a state of advanced refreshment the other night and was happily tolerated by the very pleasant guvnor, who was good enough to recommend us both a whisky or two. Clearly a well-run pub, with a great jukebox, good beer, nice punters and a very short stagger to Barbican tube afterwards. Lovely.
