The Oakwood, Glossop

Was closed for refurbishment late in 2014. Re-opened with an Olde Americee look seemingly targeted at the types who would otherwise traipse to Mcr city centre.

The Wrens Nest, Glossop

More like a Harvester than a pub. The grub is great value though.

The Courthouse Station, Barnsley

Like many Wetherspoons premises (which it is not) here we have a large distinguished old building kept accessible to the public even as it crumbles. Its former grandeur can still be espied through the delapidation.

Clientele overwhelmingly older blokes when I was there. Big sports TVs on the walls, some lively banter, and a particularly bland pint of John Smith's.

The Navigation Inn, Buxworth

Lovely setting, great interior, dog-friendly, good beer. Pricey though.

Expected to see it busier on a mild dry Saturday night but the London-bred landlord seems to prefer to run it as "my gaff for holding court with my clique", which isn't terribly conducive or convivial.

The Windmill Inn, Southport

Nice olde gaff in undemonstrative setting. Must try the tasty-smelling grub next visit.

The Steamer, Fleetwood

Quiet on the Wednesday late afternoon I visited again recently. Good pint of Gravedigger. Nice helpful older barmaid and board-games in progress.

Mount Hotel, Fleetwood

Great building and characterful interior with great views out over the front. Food served midweek is rather poor though - seemingly supplied by a vast industrial caterer for warming up, decoration and serving at the pub. You get a lot on your plate but I didn't come close to finishing it (unusual for a mean slob like me).
