Scafell Hotel, Keswick

Visited this pub 3 times last week while on holiday, beer in good condition, excellent food, and really friendly and obliging staff. Well worth a visit, especially if you are a walker, dog owner etc. Cheers

Wheatsheaf, Maidstone

Went to the real ale festival here this weekend, a really good mix of local and national ales. In general there are 2 or 3 ales on and it's a really good community pub with charity and other events. Well worth a visit.

The Brown Cow Inn, Dalton in Furness

I agree with the last 2 posters - an excellent pub, generous helpings of good food and great choice of beer, but the one barman referred to is the down side to the place. Still worth taking a risk despite him, as it's basically a good pub.

The Ring O Bells, Hinton Blewett

I love this pub. I have a friend who lives in the village, and I only get to visit once in a while, but the the beer is always excellent, as is the food, and it's a classic rural pub. It's the sort of pub to move to the village for ...

The Rifle Volunteers, Maidstone

I think all the posters make valid points. It IS quirky, it is quiet, the beer is good and it's just plain different to any other pub in Maidstone. I think it's worth a visit so you can make your own mind up if you love it or hate it. Personally I very much like it for what it is, a a quiet, old fashioned, beer-focussed pub.
