Pentre Arms Hotel, Llandysul

Quite possibly the best pub in the world. It's location is second to none, real ales are perfectly kept with the number available reflecting the season hence the quality and freshness. Superb food as can be said for all the village as competition drives up the quality. Extensive food menu with fabulous steaks, reasonable prices and fresh fish as available. Also has rooms to let at reasonable prices and proper breakfasts cooked to order. Nothing ever seems to be too much trouble here and the live bands throughout the summer suits the locals and visitors alike. The Beach Boys night is legendary and The Village Fireworks display the same. This pub should be kept a secret but I am of too generous a disposition not to share it with you all. A must visit.

The Sydney Arms, Chislehurst

Good range of beers with 4real ales to choose from with London Pride and Courage Best regulars. Sadly Doom Bar now served alongside guest ale which is often Bombardier. Pub aimed at middle aged male drinkers and very attractive barmaids of a similar age selected accordingly. A larger area caters for the food which is plentiful and of a good quality. Plentiful parking if meeting for a quick one or up for a session and leaving the car overnight. Far more convenient than the other Chislehurst boozers in that respect. Not the cheapest but then nowhere in Chislehurst is !! Certainly lots of choice in the area but then that competition is what drives the standards up. Has it's fair share of locals and regulars but you are never made unwelcome and indeed I have always found staff prompt to serve and friendly.

The Alma, Sidcup

A very unassuming pub from the outside but having met friends here a few times over the past couple of years I can say that inside you get a warm friendly welcome. Always busy and frequented by what appear to be locals, these regulars never give you the impression you are on their property which can happen so often in suburban boozers. For this is what The Alma is, a local boozer with good custom with the character a large chain pub can never replicate. Always happy to choose it as a location to meet for a few pints. Always a couple of real ales on and Courage Best always well kept in my experience.

The Golden Lion, Luddesdowne

Visited a few times now. The new owners tell me they got the pub reopened about a year ago and the effort they have put in certainly shows. Well stocked with real ales St Austell Tribute and Adnams Broadside plus a guest ale always well kept. The pub is a freehouse so good choice and cheap for the area. Interior has a welcoming real fire as well as wood burner so cosy in the winter. The garden has been completely redone with play area and animals to appeal to families yet it has the ambience of a local country boozer. Excellent pub food well priced with a wide ranging menu and the usual Sunday roasts. Good to see a pub reopened and not as a gastro pub or part of a major chain of look-a-like soul-less establishments . This pub has character and I am sure characters. Well worth finding as off the beaten track but it has good parking and walkers and cyclists appreciate this diamond in the Kent countryside. The owners deserve a pat on the back for re-opening The Golden Lion as a genuine English Country Pub.
