Barracuda Bar, Altrincham

This place is still getting slagged off due to the reputation of the former Litter Tree/Mar Med! Its not them any more. The owners of 'The Barracuda' are doing a great job. Any trouble that does happen, happens when people leave the bar-and is generally caused by riff-raff who havn't even been in there - who wouldn't even get in there. I have been in on SEVERAL Friday nights now - and not one bit of trouble!I've always had a good night. Its good for lads as normally the girls out number the lads 2 - 1! There are usually alot of pretty girls in here too. Seriously! Bar Staff could be a little friendlier though. I personally can't fault the door staff - they seem very professional - and have always been friendly with me! (I've only ever seen them be 'aggresive' towards scallies! Which is fair play!) Defo worth going in and checking out if out and about in Alty.

Perfect place to take your partner, Live music or Dj most weekend nights. Drinks are a little pricey, but you'l see why once inside.Friendly staff, Relaxed and Safe atmosphere. A local gem.

The Unicorn, Altrincham

Well! This pub has definately improved since opening. Most of the Bar and Kitchen Staff are fantastic and very friendly. The place now opens at 8am every morning, and serves alcohol from 9am. The Breakfasts are certainly worth a look, especially the Farmhouse. Saturdays are the best for Breakfast as Claire's in the kitchen. Usually a nice relaxed atmosphere and currently do a BOGOF on coffee/mocha/late etc. Ideal for people who work nights such as the crazy local Tesco night staff!Perfect place to go after a long hard night's graft! Well done to all the Staff. Claire,Cheryll,Emilly,Karen,Lauren and the lads. Keep up the good work!Go on,pop in some time. A great addition to the soon to be re-developed Altrincham!

The Quay House, Salford Quays

Although classed as a BEEFEATER Restaurant, the restaurant part is actually located in the upstairs part of the building. The downstairs of the Quay house is where you will find, a relaxing, modern and trendy bar/pub. Serving 'light' food and the usual bar snacks. With windows surrounding the back of the quay house, the Quays large and very attractive waterfront is on show. All lit up at night.A great place to go, have a drink/ food in nice surroundings right in the heart of Manchester's fantastic, 'SALFORD QUAYS' With the attractive backdrop of the Quays main water front for a view...a great place to take a partner, some friends or employees for a plesent change of scenery.

The Hare and Hounds Hotel, Timperley

Can't comment on the night time side of the 'Hare and Hounds' as i havn't been in at night for about 4 years! (back then i wouldn't reccomend drinking in there at night-if the scallies inside don't get you-the ones at the side of the shops/chippy (in the carpark) will!)
*Don't know whether they have sorted this problem out yet or not*

I do however HIGHLY recommend the 'Hare and Hounds' for a day visit though. I have been in a few times now during the day with my little lad and partner. The pub itself is really big (with the pub and bar at the front and a large restaurant styled raised seating area at the back)plus a huge beer garden to the rear. Children are very much welcome - in the eating area only.

This is ok though as it is a NO SMOKING zone in the raised food area.

The food is reasonably priced-with offers on from time2time, and is really nice. The service is brilliant, and the girls working there are extremely polite, friendly and helpful.Tables are nicely spaced out-with loads of room for buggies. They supply high chairs, and will also gladly heat your babies bottle without hesitation.

There are TWO lots of customer toilets. One at the pub end-one at the food end. They are extremely clean and smell quite nice! The postmix is a bit watered down-and wheelchair users will have a problem accessing the raised food area as there are three steps on either end to get up and down.

Other than that- Timperley's 'Hare and Hounds' is certainly worth a visit-especially if looking for somewhere to eat and drink during the day.
Only a 10 mins walk from Timperley Village and about the same from Altrincham Town Centre (Cheshire/Greater Manchester) (A short 5 min walk to 'Altrincham Golf Course and driving range')

BASED ON THE DAYTIME ONLY: I RATE THIS PUB 9/10

Automatic, Bury

Excellent service from the moment you step foot inside...if you like a bit of elegance and class, and fantastic service from friendly staff, without paying over the odds, try here! Excellent if you've engoyed a night at Bury's fantastic MET theatre. Highly recommended. Makes a change from going to Yate's (over the road)

(and i don't even work here or am afiliated in any way! I just like to praise a good place whwn i find one! Honest, try it for yourself-if you like that type of venue.)

Wyldes, Bury

Kids are unfortunatly not allowed in at all. Which i found out today. Its still a great place to go, if you havn't got the kids with you. Keeps the place a bit more peaceful i suppose! A break from kids!! Still highly reccomended.

The George (Beer Engine), Bury

Never been in here yet!Was told you get a few characters inside. Has had it's re-fit since though. The brewery (the terrible 'Enterprise inns') has been advertising for new management. (whether they have found someone yet or not, i don't know)but with any look they'l turn this pub around. It looks good now. Certainly entises you to want to go in there. With modern (hogs head) styled purple/green lights, lighting up it's front at night, and a trendy look inside, i most certainly will be popping in soon to find out what its like! (Till then,if anyone has been in after 8 Dec 04, let us know what its like now!Cheers!) I'l give it 7/10 for the re-fit for now!!

The Two Tubs Inn, Bury

Went in for the first time today (Dec 8th 04)
Looked like a decent, clean pub on the outside. So i thought i'd go in for some food. I had my 2mnt yr old son with me. The pub allows children in until 4pm. So i went in, and was greeted by an extremely friendly barmaid who advised me to go to the other end of the pub to eat, as that was a non smoking end (until 4pm)
The pub inside, reflex the outside. Clean and decent looking. To look at it from outside, it doesn't look as big as it actually is.It's surprisingly big. As its one of BURY'S OLDEST pubs (built in the 17 centuary) it contains lots of traditional character. Old wooden beams, log fires mixed with modern wood design. There are two bars. Each with really friendly and efficiant staff behind them. The food was above average, and the prices were average.(I had a tuna melt with chips and salad for 3.95) The drinks were of average price too. Definately will be going back.Attracts friendly and good clientel. A really warm and comfortable pub. Well worth a visit. Impressed with this one. Next to the Robert Peel (Weatherspoons) and The Wylde, also at the side of Bury Castle.

8.5 out 10

The Unicorn, Altrincham

Typical weatherspoons, nothing special. Toilets started off looking fancy, now the standards have completely slipped. Locks on the male toilet cubicals are broken, and offensive writing line their walls. As with all spoons, cheap driks and food. Medium sized. Ok to go to for food or a drink during the day, not the best venue for a night out. Good they are building that part of Altricham up though. Expanding. (with Clarins opposite and the now Nicolsons over the road.)Worth popping in for a few beers before moving on elsewhere. Lloyds no1 in Manchester city centre (along with the paramount) are still the best spoons in the Manchester area in my opinion. (Other Spoons (the j p joul in near-by Sale, a few inc. the ones mentioned above in the city centre and the Robert Peel in Bury.Amongst others.)

Manhattan Bar and Grill, Altrincham

Seemed ok if taking the misses out. Would only ever drink here occaisionally though-as a change of scenery. Really pricey. Definatly aimed at the more well off folk in the area. (Especially those from neighbouring 'posh spots' of Hale and Bowden.) Good place to go if your aiming for a bit of class (not over the top class, just a bit more than your regular establishments) Didn't seem to have much in the way of atmosphere. Unfortuanatly, close by the old Downs pub. (Now Nicolsons-hopefully this change will make location better than b4) Also opposite weatherspoons (the Unicorn) good idea to have a few cheaper drinks in here first b4 moving on for a wallet sting at Clarins!

6 Dec 2004 22:34

The Railway Inn, Altrincham

Easily one of the best drinking establishments in Altrincham. (Certainly with-in the top 3 in the whole of Trafford) Been back again recently. I now live in Lancashire, so am unable to go in as much as i wish i could. The staff were still really friendly, the clientel were a good crowd. The standards still quite high (Clean toilets etc) I love the beer garden! It takes you away from reality for a while! Not a bad size, not too big, ive seen smaller. Nice and secluded at the back of the pub, and all fenced in. Trellis line the walls, a small waterfall-water feature adds to the relaxing ambience of this beer garden. Partial covering for those not so pleasent days/nights! Once again played old classics such as Carpenters, soul and alike. It's like your own back garden-but with a bit of class! The lager was clean and crisp too. Well worth a visit if in the Altrincham area, or near by. Well done everyone down at the Railway. Keep it up!
5 mins (if that) from the Altrincham Metrolink/train and bus interchange and taxi rank. (Over the way from the malt shovels, and accross the road from the Old Mill.

6 Dec 2004 22:22

The Knowsley, Bury

Not a bad pub all round. A few idiots from time to time-but you get that in most places nowadays!Right in the heart of the town centre, part of the Bury pub crawl. Opposite taxi rank and Bury bus/metro interchange. On the same road as Chicago rock, and the Pure Space bar. (Round the corner from Yate's,pics and Automatic, The Wylde, Weatherspoons,Liquid lounge,O'Neils,S77,Ronnies plus a host of other pubs. Also over the way from the George.

Lucid, Manchester

Went for the first time in November (04) What a place. Has to be one of,if not, Manchester's finest and best clubs. Its a wkd place to be. Once inside you'l understand why. You feel like a VIP. All kind of stars come here:-Cast of Coronation street, Hollyoaks, Manchester United's finest players, Westlife to name but a few. With 3 levels, exclusive VIP rooms, large dance floors, numerous bars, excellent sound and lighting system, Manchester's Galaxy 102 Djs as your host. Cameras capturing the dance floor action for the rest of the club to see, via the vast amount of tvs around the club. On the spot cash prizes to be won. (For just being on the dance floor!) Toilet attendents (with a wide rang of popular aftershaves etc) Impressive bar staff (one in particular would even make Tom Cruise look like an ammature!)Sega ralley machines, mini bowling lanes, football table and air hockey- all located at the back of the 3rd floor.FREE cloakroom. All this for just 5. Strict door team. ID check on everyone. Keeps trouble out, for a great night. BE WARNED THOUGH: Drinks are pricey. As you would expect from such a classy, exclusive feeling club. All drinks Well OVER 2.50 (pints above the 3 mark) A round for 4, could cost over 16. Brilliant place for birthdays etc. Make sure you take plenty of cash though!DEFINATELY CHECK THIS PLACE OUT! BRILLIANT! Then tell us what you think here. LOCATED: Inside the printworks, opposite Manchester's IMAX and filmworks cinema, in central Manchester.

The King's Ransom, Sale

Cracking pub in the summer. With its barge style seating on the canal itself outside. With speakers wired up outside also playing some classic tunes. And a large stretch of canal side running down the side of the car-park. Perfect for those hot days in Sale! The weekends are a bit too packed. Not enough seating! Good entertainment though-hence the extremely busy weekends! Hardly any Scrouts. Good door team. Brilliant Quiz night. Tasty food. A bit pricey for food and drink-but you can see why once inside. Probably the best PUB in sale.Bar-staff efficiant and generally well traineed. (Rare to find these days!) Nice and friendly, especially Sharon.
well worth popping in when in sale (if you can afford to!) Late licence over weekend.

Sundial Hotel, Bury

Good sized pub. Games room (Lounge) and vault side. Big Screen. Pool table.Small Car park.(Rumours of a new restaurant extension into the car park) Has a reputation of being a bit of a 'Rough' pub. Mainly regulars drink in here. Used to kick off regularly, especially during football and weekends. Feel on edge drinking in there. Not as bad as the Waggon and Horses down the road though. The Dial has recently been taken over by new landowners, since Chris left for Broadheath in Altrincham. So, hopefully the pub can be and will be turned around. Could certainly be a good pub. Lots of potential. Right on the main road of Walmersley. Over the road from the Limefield post office and co-op. (Next to the old Bury General hospital site-now flats)
At present, would rather walk the 5 minute walk to the Cricks or the 15 min walk down to the Brown cow on the Burrs.

28 Nov 2004 19:54

Yates's, Bury

Not been in on a majour busy night-like the weekend. Although the place wasn't that bad. Ive visited better Yate's bars, but this one was ok. Toilets need sorting out. Have good offers on (check for latest offers) on different days and times. I went on a thursday and could buy a pint of Foster's for 1.50. Which for a bar like Yate's isn't bad. They have a pretty good lighting rig, for when the music starts...all adds to atmosphere. Would certainly go in again. Could do with raising there standards higher. Overall, not a bad place to go.
Right opposite the tourist information. Litterally a minutes walk from the Millgate shopping centre and Bury Interchange.(also opposite Automatic, and a couple of doors away from Pic's bar.) Round corner from numerous take-aways,and the Wylde.

23 Nov 2004 23:55

Wyldes, Bury

A Holt's bar. Amazing food. Not a bad price. Comfortable surroundings. Two levels. Smart dress code-to stop any scallies. No work cloths to keep the place nice and clean!! Plenty of tv's in easy to view places with a mixture of music played on them. Over all, pretty impressed.

23 Nov 2004 23:46

The Robert Peel, Bury

Not the best Weatherspoons ive been to! A few characters inside. The place is outdated compared to the other weatherspoons. (Manchester City Centre, Altrincham,Sale etc) All on one level. No private booths or comfortable seating.Needs a complete over-haul! On the other hand, in true weatherspoons tradition, does do the cheap drink thing, so a good place to start your night. And the food is alright with a low price tag. By far, not the best bar in Bury!

23 Nov 2004 23:42

The Art Picture House, Bury

Also Right opposite Bury's bus station and Metrolink interchange in the heart of Bury Centre. Ideal for anyone who lives outside of Bury, who fancies a change of scenary!

23 Nov 2004 23:32

23 Nov 2004 23:27

The Garsdale, Bury

An Excellent pub close by the Burrs County Park. Close by central Bury. Set back in gorgeous settings of the country side, the Garsdale is a large pub, with entertainment and food on offer. A good local or brilliant for a change of scenery. Less than 5 mins by car/taxi from the Centre of Bury...and near to the Brown Cow (5-10 min walk). This pub is certainly worth checking out if you get the chance.

23 Nov 2004 18:58

Ronnies On The Rock, Bury

Night Club at night (2/3 floors)
Bar during the day

23 Nov 2004 18:51

The White Lion, Bury

An old Bury Classic. Legionares and fusilers from all over north west come here for a great pint.
Right in the town Centre, close to all of Bury's other bars and pubs. (Just round the corner from 'the Wylde'-home of Weatherspoon's-Robert Peel, and Wylde's classy Pub/bar. Plus others within easy walking distance (Yate's, Pic, Automatic, O'Neils, Liqid Lounge, S77, The George, Show boat, Sol/Viva Night club, Chicago Rock, Ronnies plus many more of Bury's great town centre pubs/bars and clubs!

23 Nov 2004 18:49

The Liquid Lounge, Bury

A Fantastic modern bar, with a relaxed atmosphere.

22 Nov 2004 21:25

The Brown Cow Inn, Bury

Great little pub, with HUGE beer garden in the middle of the Burrs County Park. Cracking ice cold pints on offer. Great lines-clean,crisp taste. Loads of tables and seating to the rear, side and front of the pub, surrounded by gorgeous country scenery. (Large rivers, and waterfall only a short distance away, plus vast amounts of grassy areas, ideal for bbq and picnics in the Summer.) Situated next to the Burrs activity and adventure centre. If you get the chance Give this pub a go. Fantastic little country pub, right in the heart of Bury! Nearby pubs for a leisure crawl inc...The Cricketers' Inn (Walmersley Road,Bury) The Towler (Walmersley road), The Sundial (Also Walmersley Road) or the Garsdale...just a short walk away. Good Food, Great tasting beer, even better location...great for the entire family or just the adults.

19 Nov 2004 23:24

The Railway Inn, Altrincham

Beer Garden is really good.Definately impressed.Small but private.A greay relaxed drinking spot in a chaotic crap hole called Alty!! Good music played on outside speakers-good atmosphere.Easily best pub in Alty. Hopefully will be making it MY local once i move back down to cheshire. Staff seem friendly enough.
