The Leather Bottle, Earlsfield

Yep - checked the refurb the other day. Shame. There's no doubt it needed work but...

EARLSFIELD DOES NOT NEED ANOTHER RESTAURANT!!!!!!

I don't think these pubs understand what made them popular in the first place.

The Halfway House, Earlsfield

If you're going to sell Peroni for four quid a pint, you should at least make sure it's in a Peroni pint glass rather than a Fosters one!

The Lamb and Star, Weston Green

Went there a few weeks back - asked the landlady if she had Pino Grigio. She said "Is that a wine?". Nuff said. The pub is a bit rougher than when I used to go there regularly a few years back, which is a shame because it has potential.

Bar China, Wimbledon

Great little place. I disagree with the post about the place losing atmosphere when the ownership changed - the previous owner was not what you would call a charismatic or particularly friendly bloke. I think it's pretty good - the food (Chinese, obviously) is very nice, the service is swift (though the bar staff admittedly won't win any awards for banter), the decor is different, it's sport-friendly, the outside area is decent (especially in the summer) and the prices are low (Kronenbourg Blanc - another plus point - 1 cheaper than other places I have been to). I booked half the bar out for a private party recently and found the staff very helpful.

The Open Page, Earlsfield

Best Pub in Earlsfield. Used to haunt the Pig and Whistle until it really started to depress me - The Open Page is much better, striking a happy medium between being too quiet and too busy. Bar staff are friendly as the place itself is clean and has nice decor. Budweiser on tap is a godsend for a veteran of years of Stella hangovers...

Waxy O'Connors, Piccadilly

Went to this place for my work Xmas party. Had the pleasure of a very agressive and very public dressing down by a wasp of an Irish barmaid/mangager for having the temerity to help myself to a few chairs that were stacked up in a room off the stairs (the door was wide open, there were no signs and the large table we had managed to get had about three chairs round it). Them Irish eyes definitely weren't smiling. Possibly the rudest piece of customer service I have encountered, compounded by the fact that it's overpriced, full of a***holes and mobile phones struggle to get a signal in there (a pain if you're meeting people in such a big and crowded place). In short, give it a big miss.
