The Black Bull, Corbridge

Its a mile from the station!!! Gorgeous from the outside, dark and cosy but spacious inside. Food is a little expensive (not too unusual in this village though) and well kept real ale from 4 hand pulls is on offer.

The Angel, Corbridge

Its more than 0.1 of a mile from the station!! I agree with previous comments regarding the up market lounge area and the gastro pub feel of the bar area. It could not be described as a locals bar, there are others nearby, but it is a fine building with a pleasant sitting out area to the front and it serves very well kept real ales from 6 hand pulls. The local Allendale brewery is well represented.

The Wellington, Riding Mill

The first port of call on a rail crawl to Carlisle it was surprisingly busy for 11.30am on a thursday. Handily placed for the station this place is large and very well appointed inside and has a large and pleasant outdoor seating area should the weather permit. An extensive menu is available and 4 hand pulled real ales are on offer from larger national brewers.

The Boathouse Inn, Wylam

A fantastic pub easily deserving of the Camra recognition it regularly attracts. 15 hand pulled real ales on offer. Friendly staff and locals. A step away from the railway station. If you like great, traditional pubs and real ale you must seek out this place.

Tap & Spile, Hexham

Well appointed and friendly chain pub full of chatty locals. 7 real ales on hand pulls on offer, sadly none from the local brewery at Dipton. Would be my pub of choice in Hexham.

The Globe, Hexham

Small locals pub with a small sitting out area to the side/rear. Not particularly friendly, nor unfriendly but 2 real ales on hand pull worth visiting for. Shame neither of them was from the local brewery at Dipton Mill.

The Black Bull, Haltwhistle

The new (year and a half) owner of this pub is getting just about everything right. Great atmosphere created by him and the friendly staff and locals. Great food and 6 real ales. Cosy bar to eat in or there is a seperate dining area if you prefer. Lots of books and leaflets about the local area. Frequented and well liked by local Camra. Whats not to like.

Adam and Eve, Prudhoe

Handily placed for the railway station and has 2 real ales on offer. Not all good news though as the place seems stuck in a 70s time warp right down to the heavily made up barmaid sporting a classic dyed black mullet.

Bridge Hotel, Newcastle

I drive 150 miles to Newcastle for home games and this is my pub of choice for pre match beer. The range is ever changing although Black Sheep and Mordue and local micros' beers are nearly always on offer. Service, location, atmosphere are exactly as mentioned in previous reports. This is a great pub.

Dog and Gun, Keswick

This is a busy town centre pub serving several ales from Lakeland brewers and it is one of the few outlets for the excelent Keswick Brewing Company ales. There is plenty of space at the lengthy bar but the place can become crowded as people turn up to sample the superb Goulash on offer here which is most highly recommended. I can report that recent adverse comment regarding the quality of meat used in this meal seems unfounded or at least has been rectified.

Bank Tavern, Keswick

A busy pub in the centre of Keswick serving well kept Jennings beers. Its a bit dark and cramped around the bar area but there is a larger area towards the rear as well as outside seating. The menu is fairly standard but on the day of my visit they were offering reasonably priced giant yorkshires filled with either beef stew or Cumberland sausage, veg and gravy. I opted for the stew and was not the least bit disappointed. Neither were the German tourists who tried the same on my recommendation.
