The George and Pilgrim, Glastonbury

Was here in June before and after attending the festival, and thought this was one of the highlights of the small town. The Hecks cider was kept beautifully and we were happy to stay for a while and sample plenty of this. Didn't eat or stay here, but go for the cider alone.

Hawthorns Hotel, Bar and Restaurant, Glastonbury

I stayed at this hotel in June as my wife and I were on holiday and needed somewhere to stay before and after going to the festival. The staff were terrific, they saw to our every need and no job was enough - they even held on to the belongings that we did not need to carry with us while we were at Worthy Farm. We ate at the restaurant once and had a very nice curry, admittedly the beer was bottled but we had no complaints about the choice or quality. This review does consider both the hotel and restaurant and not just the bar, but this is a great place to stay and have a curry and bottle of badger before hitting the high st.

The Winchester, Islington

Not a beer drinkers pub, and certainly not the biggest place, but the staff are friendly and know how to make a cocktail quickly - which is a start on many other places I've been to!

The Hawley Arms, Camden

Pub is re-opening on October 30th, expect Daniel North to be excited about this

The Bull, Islington

I've spent some really pleasant afternoons in here, drinking the banana beer (ask the staff, can't remember what it's called) and playing one of the board games. Very recommended if it's for a long session or a swift one - an oasis in a sea of chain pubs

The Water Poet, Shoreditch

Not the most charming of pubs, the decor hasn't been refreshed in some years, but for the area this place is certainly one of the best. Do Landlord very well and comfy sofas. This is a place that has definitely benefitted from the smoking ban!

The Griffin, Whetstone

No doubts, the best pub on the High Road between The Elephant Inn and Red Lion (North Finchley - High Barnet, nice 3 pub crawl!) with very well kept Bombardier and Deuchars. Usually have live music on a Saturday which on the most recent was a solo guitar player/singer. Lovely food too, well worth a visit.

The Griffin, Shoreditch

Has the potential to fall into a Hawley Arms-style trendy trap, instead they keep their feet on the ground with a great pint of Deuchars. Usually packed out on a weekend, but worth it for the sticky carpets and pickled eggs!

Dignity (Taylors of Finchley), Finchley

The fact that it is under an office block and usually has suited types sitting outside can be off putting, but once inside this place is an absolute gem. Great range of beers, wonderful food and really nice decor.

The Elephant Inn, North Finchley

Best pub in the area and well worth travelling to - I should know, I moved in round the corner!

The Old White Lion, East Finchley

A great pub, just outside the tube station with a fantastic range of beers and well kept ales, the menu looks pretty nice too. Just one problem - the staff. They are invariably too busy chatting (or flirting) with each other, have no idea who is next to be served, have no sense of urgency and seem incapable of dealing with people. Landlord - kick this lot up the arse or get rid!!
