Mayford Arms, Mayford

Under new management since beginning of April. A change for the worse. The new landlord & landlady seem incapable of interacting with the customers. Spend most of their time outside have a ciggy. No wonder the previously flourishing pub golf society has moved to another nearby local.
How can anyone run a pub and not offer food over a bank holiday?
Only one bitter on tap. Green King IPA.
Sadly, this pub under the current management will not last long. If passing keep going.
I will now move to better pubs in the locality.

The White Hart, Tongham

Outstanding Beer festival this last weekend. All the beers that I tasted, not all that were available as could not drink that much :), were excellant. A big thank you to Ali & Kevin for making this pub into what a pub should be.

The Cricketers, Westfield

I would agree with last comment. Since Emma has gone the service has gone downhill. Barmaids more interested in their mobile sthan serving customers. Real Ale can be hit and miss and sometimes do not have any on as they have runout. Food still good and large helpings.

The Hatchgate, Hook

Excellant pub. Although out in the sticks it is well worth the trip. Food is outstanding with servings of Bison, crocodile, antelope, camel Kangeroo etc. Beer is well kept. Staff friendly and non pushy. In fact last time I went, my partner and I were the only peope still in the pub at midnight.

Old Vic, Southsea

Great atmosphere, excellant service, good beer. Gay and Tv friendly pub. Won the best pub of the year in Portsmouth. Well worth a visit on a Fri or Sat night.
You never know who you will bump into!

The Swan, Farnborough

The pub has been refurbished in a contempory style. Shame that the furnishings do not go with the high standard of decoration. Looks like the tables and chairs have been bought from a house clearance as nothing matches. Went to a pre reopening function and sad to say the service was poor the food not of a high standard and small amounts. There was only 2 real ales on tap Pride and Doom Bar. Both nice. Wine list was poor-only 3 red & 3 white.
If this standard continues I cannot see it lasting long as the clientele they are trying to cater for, business people from airport and surrounds, will go elsewhere.
Shame as the place has potential. Maybe they are just teething problems. I will return in a few months to see if things have improved.

Obviously converted from old pub. Very contempory bit like someones large front room. Upstairs restuarant with lovely views over the river. Food was good quality and good value. Large portions. Good selection of real ales.

Park View, Brighton

Could be a good pub. Decor needs a bit of attention. Staff could be a bit friendlier and try to give the appearance that they know what they are doing and care. Menu is varied and vegatarian selection is good and not overpriced. Quality of the other food can be a bit hit and miss. The only really good thing is the selection of real ale. Always have 3-4 on offer and are of good quality. Deucahrs, Black Sheep, Crop Circle etc.

The Spring Inn, Sulhamstead

Lovely setting by the cricket green, which would be reason for being packed during the Summer. Pub on two floors bar downstairs and restuarant upstairs. Well laid out clean. Friendly helpful staff. Good selection of beers including real ales such as Black Sheep. Ate in restuarant. Excellant quality of food, not your normal pub grub. Homemade vension pie, pan fried sea bass etc. Maybe pricey for some but thought on a par with others serving same sort of fayre. Well worth a visit.

Very nic epub. Excellant food and good selection of beers. Good atmosphere. Worth a visit.

The Cricketers, Westfield

New owners taken over and some renovation taken place. Food is now good and worth the money for the large helpings. Have two real ales on most times and these are changed regularly. London Pride, Bombadier, Black Sheep have been recent offerings. Friendly staff but service could be a little better.

White Hart, Old Woking

Worst Pub in the area. Tatty interior unfriendly if not a local. poor food and beer. Not worth a visit even on a pub crawl.

16 Nov 2007 09:36

The New Inn, Send

Lovely setting on a Summers day. Sit out side by the canal. As has been stated in other reviews staff efficient but not what you would call welcoming in their manner. Food is good although a bit pricey. Selection of real ales is always good.

The Crown and Anchor, Old Woking

This used to be a lovely pub but now seems to be wearing. No great selection of ale in fact only one real ale. Restuarnt area has been reduced and food not up to the quailty it once was. Friendly and helpful staff although a Friday lunchtime they could do with more as waiting for more than 10 mins to be served is a bit galling.

16 Nov 2007 09:30

The Mansion House, Reading

Nice setting and in a listed building. However it is your typical Harvester pub. Staff very friendly and helpful. No selection of real ales. Speckled Hen only.

16 Nov 2007 09:24

Crooked Billet, Hook

Great Pub. Good selection of ales and nice food at reasonable prices., Staff always friendly and helpful.

16 Nov 2007 09:21

The Jolly Farmer, Runfold

Staff are friendly and good ale. Food is traditional English Fayre and good value for money.

16 Nov 2007 09:19

The Sandrock, Boundstone

Found this pub using this site and so glad I took the chance to visit. Bright and airy. The food and beer selection would be hard to beat. Staff exceedingkly helpful. NOthing seemed to be too much trouble. So refreshing in this day and age. I would suggest booking table if eating Fri-Sun as the eating area is quite small. Well worth a visit.
