The Crown Inn, Knaphill

A real ale paradise - with great food as well - just to back up my comments below - its now 5 months of using the crown on a regular basis - in that time a have had the pleasure of what I can only call a mini beer festival almost every week - here's just some of the beers i have had and still not even an average one amongst them (all absolutely perfectly kept) ; Flacks double drop, Ringwood boondoggle & old Scrumper, Twickenham Vanguard, Horsham Prospect, Sharps Doombar,Hoggs back Snout, itchen valley's Hampdhire rose, Woodfords Wherry, Ascots on the rails & posh pooch, Otter Ale, Andwells King John & Resolute, Black sheep, Sheer drop, cottage brewing golden arrow, Hammerpot Red Hunter & bottle wreck porter, Thwaites Lancaster Bomber, Timmy Taylor's Londlord, Betty Stoggs, Dorset Piddle, fff Alton Pride, Caledonian over the bar, Adnams Southwold, & finally my favourite two Otter Amber & Tribute (oh they had London pride on as well)
May have missed a few as I've obviously not been in there every night!! But then again this is not an advert - I just like to share what I think is a pub that is exceptionally well run.

The Crown Inn, Knaphill

At last - a proper pub in Knaphill - used to be a dive - now transformed into a friendly pub with excellent home made food - Burgers are to die for, the curries exceptional, its great quality food and I'm fussy.
I have been using the Crown as a regular now for the past four months and have never had even an average pint - all have been in first class order and they always have three choices.
The host is normally always around and the bar staff are freindly and very efficient. Long may it continue

The Royal Oak, Knaphill

Have visited this pub on a regular basis over the past 10 years, it used to be a great pub with a wonderfull 'old world character' great food and a warm friendly atmosphere. Over the past 2 years I have seen a transition to a characterless 'wine bar' atmosphere, a succession of diferent food managers & menus, some good some not so good & an inconsistency as to whether food was actually on or not.I have found the beer is generally not well kept and the staff don't seem to have anybody on site to make decisions, not sure if this is a brewery managed pub or it has a landlord but it has had no 'host' since the last landlord left some years ago. What a shame !
