The Blacksmiths Arms, Cudham

Chipps, if you look at the comment below yours, you will see that some wanker has nicked my username, (three f's at the end). With that said, I can see that i've obviously hit a nerve with your locals and as such, i apologize if i have offended anyone. It was just my experience. You'll be glad to know i've manned up immensely and last night ordered a VODKA with my Martini. Hardcore or what!? Thanks for naming the piss up after me but I still won't be coming. Peace.

The Little Brown Jug, Chiddingstone Causeway

Dear Benton, I have noticed you following my reviews and ridiculing them like a rascal. Maybe you are jealous of my good looks or my beautiful wife, but any further attempts to poo poo my opinions will result in me drawing my sword and slaying you in cold blood, leaving me free to steal your wife and son and hold them captive in a cage in a field somewhere for my viewing pleasure. All kind regards and best wishes, Cakenhoff.

Rising Sun, Twitton

becked, you are correct, and my apologies to The Rising Sun in Twitton. My other review is indeed for the one in Kemsing, on Cotmans Ash Lane. Who knew there were two Rising Suns so close to each other? Obviously not me.........!

I was only here 6 weeks ago! And it couldn't have been more different. The girls serving outside looked very moody indeed. The beer was lovely but the food this time was very bad. I had bangers n mash, which I have to admit, was ok, and my wife and my son had the ham, egg and chips. The yolk of one of my wife's eggs was paler than Joan Collins' face, and the ham looked as if it had just had the colour purposely removed from it. Fifty shades of GREY no less. It was a very sorry looking plate of food. Needless to say most of it got left. And I know it's not the pubs fault, but the wasps in the garden drive you mad. We had more fun killing them than we did eating. Say much?

The Lion Hotel, Farningham

This place has incredible potential. A beautiful building with old termite-ridden beams inside, nicely decorated and bags of character. Alas, there are some problems. The first being the swarms of wasps in the garden. You simply couldn't put up with it. Because of this, my wife and I sat inside, on which was, a lovely day. We ordered chicken liver pate and scallop and prawn risotto for starter, and Mixed grill and the grilled plaice for main. Before the food came we were given our cutlery, which were FILTHY, and still had bits of old, dried food on it. The prawn risotto was lacking flavour, and the pea and mint was absent altogether, the chicken liver pate was fine. The mains were worse. The grilled plaice was beyond slimy and the potatoes were the size and texture of squash balls. When I initially asked for the mixed grill, I asked for the steak to be done medium rare. I didn't expect to be tucking in to something that felt like a wellington boot. When we went to pay, my wife did say something about this to the young boy behind the bar, to which he replied "Oh, right." and carried on fiddling about with the computer. He opened a new bottle of Jack Daniels with his teeth, then failed to ask me how much coke I wanted (just filled it up to the top). And a few more basic things that bar staff should know how to do if they're trained properly. The only positive thing about our visit to this place was the girl who brought us our food. We've driven past this place so many times and it's always looked so nice. We really wanted to like it. Very disappointed.

Rising Sun, Twitton

What a strange place this is. Unlike any pub i've ever been to before. Very sinister. As soon as you pull up in your car, the locals eyes follow you into the dark, ramshackled but charming building. Complete darkness inside, and no electricals in sight. Not even a till. Smells (and looks) like a 1950's living room. Crap everywhere, paperwork everywhere and a parrot in the corner. The landlady was friendly enough and supplied a lovely pint of Sussex but couldn't help but feel like you had daggers in your back the whole time. It was like something out of The Hills Have Eyes, or a set for the next Saw film. In all fairness the garden and surrounding area was lovely but can't help thinking something very dodgy goes on here, like people going missing or being bludgeoned in the toilets or something. I am of course, joking. But that's the kind of vibe this place gives off.

Just been here for the first time. Pub is HUGE inside and looks welcoming. Sat in the lovely beer garden and ordered some food, which was nice. The wife had the plaice which was, however, a bit slimy on the underside. I don't get what people are saying about the toilets. They're very nice, clean toilets. Whatever, the staff are really nice and always smiling and the beers fresh. will definitely go back.

The Chequers Inn, Heaverham

Ok, so it's been 9 months or so since the last review and things have changed slightly. The pub is under new ownership for a start. Masterbrew, Whitstable bay, Kent's Best, Asahi, Oranjeboom, and Wrongbow are all on tap and all in good nick. The interior of the pub is TINY and of very bland décor but the staff are extremely pleasant which is nice. I had a Sunday roast Lamb which I have to say I was a little disappointed with. The Lamb was sliced (as opposed to a shank) and was overcooked with quite a bit of fat on it. The yorkies were slightly burnt and the veggies were old and tired looking. The roast potatoes were, however, fantastic. But it still wasn't worth £14.95. Shame. But a nice place to come and sit outside and have a drink. 7/10.

The Harrow Inn, Warlingham

The Harrow used to be a bit crap. The food wasn't good, the atmosphere was non existent and the place was generally a bit run down. But it has now been refurbished. Nicely done too. They've managed to keep the old style of the building without making it look too modern. They also have a new chef which means the food is of good quality and reasonably priced. Real ales are a bit sparse but lagers are in the forms of Staropramen, Stella, Amstel and Carling, and are always crisp. Staff are nice and friendly too and there's no "locals only" feel which is nice. It feels cosy in there with log fires roaring away. I like it. And i'm placing it above the nearby White Bear which is slowly descending into pub oblivion.

The Wheatsheaf, Bough Beech

Lovely looking building. Got inside and after purchasing some good quality beer we asked for a menu only to be told that the menu is written on a huge chalk board for everyone to stand around and decide what they want. Very strange. Anyway, we ordered two roast beefs and then made our way to the beer garden. We found a bench and sat on it. We hadn't been talking 5 minutes when the food came over. Alarm bells start ringing in my head. The food was absolutely the WORST I had ever come across from a pub. To say the meat was stringy doesn't even come close. I could have picked it up, pulled it apart and it would've snapped. Utterly inedible. My wife didn't eat any of hers, because she physically couldn't. Boiled frozen peas and carrots accompanied this and it wasn't cheap either. £14.95 each as I recall. Some food makes you want to complain. Some food is so bad, you want to punch the chef. Then there's this.

The Castle, Outwood

The missus and I found this pub completely by accident after driving by the sorry looking Dog And Duck. We used to drink there but not anymore because we found The Castle! Clean and crisp inside, it is very welcoming. Trish is the Landlady and does everything she can to make you feel as welcome as possible. Food is VERY good, the chef is very creative and cooks everything from fresh. Beer is good quality and there's an excellent garden terrace area out the back too. Love it. I'm there all summer. :-)

The Fox and Hounds, Romney Street

This pub has changed hands again from mid Jan 2013 after the last landlady was evicted for not paying the rent. This pub isn't particularly well decorated, it's fairly small inside, the garden is ok, but its full of dog sh!t. The reason I kept coming back here was the food. Especially the lamb. I picked up the bone and the meat fell off. I'm not joking. On a sunny Sunday afternoon, you could not do better than a roast at this place. It was amazing. But since mid January i'm afraid, it is not. Mediocre food could well kill this pub. The beer however, is still good. And the Bushells cider is lovely too.

The White Bear, Fickleshole

The wife and I have been coming here for at least 6 years now, but not for the last few months. It would seem that although it is run very efficiently and competently by Nicole, the two owners have gotten progressively greedier as the years have crept by. The prices now are ridiculous. The food is still quite tasty, but basic, uninspiring and old fashioned and as a result, not worth it. You'd pay the same at a decent restaurant. Beer? At least £3.90 a pint. Large glass of wine? You're looking at nearly £9.00! This place has become a victim of its own success and I'd like to believe they've hiked up the prices to deter the chavs from nearby New Addington. I'm more inclined to think the owners are just greedy. Sort this beautiful pub out now before you ruin it!

The Blacksmiths Arms, Cudham

I had to register just to review this pub. This place PISSED me off. I had visited here a few times with the missus and always had the same problem. Fat, obnoxious locals sitting at the bar, completely hogging it and preventing anyone else from getting near. I stood there for a good 10 minutes behind all the locals who were all being served as soon as they slammed their empty 15th pint glass down on the bar. I was completely ignored, and not for lack of trying to get the staffs attention. The staff here are bitches to the locals. I really wanted to like this pub but I just can't. BOYCOTTED!!!!
