The Chapel, Broadstairs

Wow. What a find. Friends had been here and wanted us to see it. Next minute we are inside and wow again. Beer excellent. Old dairy Kentish and Goachers. Not a World War Two plane in site !

Excellent.

The Tartar Frigate, Broadstairs

Best beer so far in Kent. Well kept and a good temperature despite weather but not artificially chilled.

Rams gate brewed Gadds No5 in perfect condition.

Landlord in attendance and proud of his product.

Not so much a review. Read about this "real ale pub" in Westfield and have wants to visit. Now attempted to get in this bar on no less than six separate occasions. Different party sizes and mixes. As a couple, two couples, three couples and a men only group of 10. Can hardly get near the place and the deafening hubbub when inside has caused most of my party to reject it as a venue. Range of beers looked mouth watering.
Is there a real pub in Stratford rather than a girder and glass wine bar dressed up? Please let me know.

SA Gold and Rev James on hand pull. SA gold pulled flat no flat or life. Tasted a gulp. Maybe two to make sure and returned to barman. Rev James was crapper took a smaller precautionary sip. Rank. Did not return and sat for a while. I couldn't believe someone came in asked for a tester of the Rev. Then asked for a pint. Flat as a pancake ! Looks to be a big lager pub.

Gave a better rating than the beer deserved as the bands are usually pretty good. Won't come here for a pint. The local spoons is a hope but they know beer.

Loos are now fab. Tastefully decorated and don't smell of urine like a lot of pubs. Beer well kept and pub grub is more than adequate. Previous poor reviewers should return.

The Wentworth Arms, Mile End

Good old fashioned East End pub. Atmospheric and friendly. We dived in here on a Friday for a chat after deciding that a Westfield to Westfield trip via Ealing Broadway was a bad idea and we needed to chat A Pint for me and wine for the Mrs.

Only have to say Stop watching Eastenders on the telly and come and enjoy the real thing. We left with a smile on our face and were bade a goodnight by staff and locals alike

The Ship, Chelmsford

Visited this pub as part of a family Group of fortysomethings for a Saturday night get together.

I am afraid that the Beer was all flat. There were Fireside, Old Hooky, Abbott and IPA available and every one was flat and lifeless.

How can they all be flat at the same time? I asked the Bar Staff but they didnt seem to be bothered and was offered an alternative (I think she meant Lager!). I said there is little point they (the Bitters) are all flat.

Beer was mediocre when I have tasted much better in other pubs in Essex. One of my drinking companions even drank a Magners and then wine because he really didn't like the first beer and none of mine looked any more appetising.

I shall not be going back!

Have been back since and this Pub is better for the non smoking ban. Just dont sit near the window where the smokers congregate outside.

Beer kept pretty good too

The Pen and Parchment, Stratford Upon Avon

This pub will benefit no end from the Non Smoking laws! Roll on 1st of July.

Abbot was good this weekend but to avoid the stench of tobacco we had to sit outside.

The Garrick Inn, Stratford Upon Avon

We have used this pub for a few years on our visits to Stratford (as it was non smoking) but now they require you "to be seated" by a memer of staff which means that you cant just drink at the back tables any longer.

The beer is well kept. Abbott as good as anywhere else of late. You do need to mind your change though! The barman caught me the first night with the short change routine. 2.25 change from a tenner for a Pinot Grigio (large) and a pint of Abbott (later found to be 2.60). Should have been 6.75. I let it go but we went back the next night and the cheeky @@@ did it again although this time I queried it. I am afraid he reacted like it was a common occurence.

We tried again to get in here on a Saturday night at about 9-30 but it was heaving and we didnt want to stand. We went down to the Pen and Parchment forced ourselves to sit outside as the smoke was awful inside and had an Abbot of amazingly similar quality and a Pinot Grigio (large) for exactly the same price 6.75 but I got the right change!

The Mary Arden, Wilmcote

We have been here twice now. Once in the midst of Summer 2006 on a parchingly hot day and enjoyed a great meal and a few Magners. So we thought we would return this year although we expected Magners to be replaced by Bulmers like every where else.

This time it was a rain sodden weekend. We began by sitting oustide in the garden which could be better. I then suggested we move inside and we sat in the non smoking part of the bar area although we could have sat in the (non smoking) dining room.

The food was excellent. Home cooked Ham, Egg and Home made chips and my wife had a Home Made Burger chips and salad. The Abbott Ale was as good as anywhere else at the present time and the Pinot Grigio Blush was more than acceptable for my wife. Prices similar to downtown Stratford. Staff went out of their way (changed a sandwich for another customer) and were prepared to serve you at the table. Attentive to the point they saw my empty beer glass and offered to get a refill!

Any one in Stratford on the bus tour it is well worth the stop for lunch. And they have Magners not Bulmers.

The Tulip, Springfield

This pub is marred by a lack of a separate non smoking area. We were meeting some friends so couldn't choose to go elsewhere when the label on the fornt door stated "Smoking permitted throught the premises".

It was very smokey. Beers were very good however and went down a treat. Sports Bar is very popular with younger generation.

Maybe after June 2007 it will be a better environment to enjoy the quality of the beers.

The Old Green Tree, Bath

We were drawn here after admiring two shops opposite... The Fishworks and the Sausage Shop.

We pushed the door wondering if it was open!

It was! SUPERB.

The smoke room at the back is the non smoking area. Wide choice of ales we didnt get a "we have real ale but it's off at the moment" like most of the other lager pubs around.

We loved it and gravitated back here for the last beer in Bath after an excellent weekend. Our friends raved about the food they had here.

Sunday lunch is reputed to be the best. Even does roast potatoes in a basket on the bar on a sunday (free)!

If you rate a hostelry by its loos these are pristine not your regular pub gents!

Enjoy we did!
