The White Hart, Buxted

It has reopened. We've visited twice now; first time was just for a couple of pints, second time was for a meal.

The drinking part. The village needed a decent place to drink and the bar section of the White Hart is it. There are some lovely old features and it's a decent size. My wife loved the NZ Sauvignon Blanc, which was both tasty and well chilled.

Food-wise, I can't offer a broad review as we both just had rib-eye steaks. They were really good though; everything on the plate down to the tomato was excellent. They were also very reasonably priced.

Both nights the staff were great. Still a little finishing decorating to be done (e.g. cupboards under sinks in toilets awaiting installation), but I've assumed that'll be done shortly.

The Lamb, Piltdown

As Bibit said, it's been taken over, redone and is now called The Lamb. Excellent for dinner and stacks up well vs. places like The Griffin down the road in Fletching.

Sankey's, Tunbridge Wells

Excellent.

We were here back in August '08. Having read the reviews here, we went early evening just in case as we were with the family. Ate downstairs and the food was very good.

More recently, we ate in the bar for Mother's Day. The food was perfect, especially considering we weren't in the restaurant, with top marks going to the haddock "roast".

As you can see, I can't comment on the drinking part, but the food is as good as ever.

The Middle House Hotel, Mayfield

Excellent food bar-side (the quail beat the pork, but both were good). Given the quality and quantity, prices are reasonable (~15/main).

The Nutley Arms, Nutley

Sunday lunch was very disappointing and the inside eating area felt a little cramped.

The outside is great though, so probably a good place to spend an afternoon.

The Buxted Inn, Buxted

Excellent food, especially given the very reasonable prices.
