The Prince of Wales, Burnt Oak
Bad news, I'm afraid...Praic and Mags have done a quick about turn and disappeared once more. The pub is now being run by a temporary management team parachuted in by (I think) Fireside Inns.

Now in a new (and safe) pair of hands, The Greyhound is once again a pub worth going to. Properly kept ale, clean and pleasantly appointed.

The Plough and Harrow, Welling
Astute comments Zaphod. But that's Welling for you- the pubs there were uniformly dreadful 25 years ago. And I have no reason to think they were any different 100 years ago either.

Walked past it a couple of nights ago. Festooned with chavs and pikeys. Burn the bloody place down.

Nice location, nice enough crowd, but an utterly sterile, characterless atmosphere. Dead as a nail.

I like it. It's central London, so that means the Guinness is lousy, it's chocker with tourists and office workers and it's overpriced. But, hey, it works on other levels: Lovely location, the service isn't too bad and it pulsates with a faint, but definite, air of literary and historical associations.

Not too bad. The comments about the bar staff are pertinent enough though: The Rose Bruford drama students on the payroll have only the haziest concept of service. Perhaps they should get up an improv class about actually pouring a few pints rather than leaning on the bar chatting about student stuff to their chums.
That gripe aside, the landlady is very pleasant, as is the decor.

A proper pub- one for grown ups. A place to drink and chat. As God intended pubs to be.

It always was a nasty place. It was attracting thugs and yobs twenty five years ago. I gather a lot of them commute in from inner city hellholes to further spread their viciousness.

Nice pub. Cosy in fact. With friendly service and civilised locals (I've actually seen people playing chess in there). The Guinness is a bit sour tasting, but then again, isn't it in most pubs?

I like the place. But mainly through happy associations: I've had some good times there because of the company I'd been keeping. But speaking objectively, RogerB's comments are very much on the money. It's a bland, formulaic pub.

Not so nice. A few too many ciderheads and minor league villains shuffling about in the murk and gloom.

Excellent comments HistoryMan. Best of an appalling bunch. However, when there's no match on, it's a nice enough place.

Size of a wardbrobe, but excellent Guinness and friendly service.

The parkland location is lovely. But the service, decor and range of beers are not so good.

Oh horrid spot! Thronged with the very choicest vulgarians and oafs Hendon has to offer.

Despite the poor reputation of the area, this is actually a very nice pub. The people who run it know what they're doing. Always a warm welcome for the odd forlorn blow-in like myself.

The Prince of Wales, Burnt Oak
Very nice indeed. A well-run, friendly and unpretentious Irish pub. Good place for music, Guinness and conversation.

Very friendly and cosy. Once spent a wonderful extended session there, swilling lager by the gallon, chatting away with the friendly (and intelligent) regulars.

This pub stands over the other boozers of Pinner, as the mountains tower over the hills. Its cosy , traditional ambience is complemented by good beer and service. Great place.

The Hollybush, Elstree
The manager and his barstaff are first-rate: friendly, hospitable and efficient. Also worth noting- the Guinness is excellent, as the boys take their cellar duties very seriously.
Having said that, it's not one of the greats. The pool table dominates the pub to the exclusion of a proper seating arrangement and there's an unfortunate whiff of pikey about too many of the regulars.
A curate's egg of a pub.
