The Greyhound, Finchampstead

The occasion was my wife's birthday, there were four of us on a Saturday evening.
Could not find a parking space which we thought to be a positive (parked against the wall eventually).
The bar and restaurant were nicely decorated although a bit crowded with tables too near to each other and having that many people in a confined area created a very loud atmosphere, so had to almost shout to hold a conversation.
The food portions were almost nouveau cuisine (small and pretentious) and very average quality for the price and the drinks were overpriced with a bottle of Budweiser at 3.75 and glass of house wine at 5. The Moorland was 3.20 a pint - not a bad pint.
My wife had the pan fried cod (very small and overcooked) wrapped in parma ham, which came out without the parma ham or poached egg - sent back and another came out within a couple of minutes with no explanation or apology as to why ? - I had the burger and chips - again not enough on the plate a small burger and only a few small oily chips - I won't bore with the other meals and starters, but suffices to say we will not be returning to this average overpriced establishment any time soon.

The Pen and Parchment, Stratford Upon Avon

Was not expecting much from previous reviews, but what a great pub, good cask ales - tried the Abbot which was well kept and would have had a few more if I wasn't driving.
Currently have a two meals deal for 9.95 which was served quickly, hot and delicious - will definitely use again if passing

The Waterwitch, Odiham

Visited with a party of eight for Sunday lunch (May 2010 hot summers day) - had booked table only to find that our table had been given to another large party, were given a separate room upstairs to eat (not good for one disabled 86 year old and one with a broken ankle). As the pub was full had a wait for an hour and a half for the food which arrived lukewarm and not much of it, charged for second round of drinks which never arrived - beer was average, but won't be going back what a shame as a great location.

The Hogget, Hook Common

What a great place, not only is the beer good, but the food is superb as well - the total opposite to the sister pub The Exchequer in Crookham Village (see my review).
Friendly staff and good service - don't be put off by the rather odd name of the place, will definitely use again - highly recommended.

The Exchequer, Crookham Village

Although most of the reviews to date are positive, I must say that following a visit on Saturday for a party of four (my wifes birthday), the experience was not good. Firstly, the noise in the eating area was so load that it was impossible to converse without shouting, due to the terrible acoustics and the wooden floor - everyones voices were amplified beyond belief - not good for a restaurant.
Secondly the service was poor at best as the serving staff had no idea what the menu comprised of and could not answer the simplest of questions, the one hour wait for the food was unacceptable although an apology was given for the wait after 45 minutes and the offer of another drink while we waited was welcome although I was surprised that we were charged for this.
When the food did arrive, it was not bad although for the price the steak (around 6oz), one tomato, one mushroom, and four chunky chips for 15.95 was not exactly good value and the lemon sole (one small piece) was not filleted and contained more bones that I thought possible for such a minuscule fish making it almost impossible to eat - the one redeeming feature was that the beer was good - perhaps they should just stick to the beer and stock a few more as a very limited range was available and only one cider (Bulmers) - if ever there was a case for a Gordon Ramsey makeover it must be the Exchequer - Avoid at all costs.
