The Lamb, Surbiton

Fantastic pub. One of the most bohemian pubs in Surrey and South London. I love the whole legend of Lefi Ganderson thing. It's so creative and quirky. Unfortunately, I am not that local but try to visit as much as possible. How I wish I had a local like this.
The ales are top notch as are the cheesey bar snacks. Great atmosphere and great staff that have service down to a fine art.

The Good Intent, Puttenham

Fantastic pub! I don't live in the area (wish I did) but we always make a point of visiting when walking nearby. First found this pub a couple of years back and couldn't stop talking about how good it was. All the boxes are ticked for me, excellent range of ales, fanastic home cooking, friendly welcoming locals and great bar staff.
Don't change a thing!

The White Horse, Epsom

Excellent Pub. Great Landlord, Great Locals, Fantastic Ales, Brilliant Food, Wonderful Atmosphere! What more could you possibly ask for in your local boozer! 10/10.

The Three Moles Inn, Selham

Ok, I'm not from around these parts but as far as the 'clinical wine bar' comment goes (SamRich) I really can't see any comparison whatsoever! We recently stayed in Fittleworth and as always look on our OS map for pubs in the locality. We chose to stop by here after a walk around Bignor and were both exceptionally impressed! Fantastic ales and very friendly locals. The Landlord is a lovely bloke too. Highly recommend the Hip Hop ale from neighbouring brewery Langhams at Lodsworth, it was a real treat to the taste buds!

The Black Horse Inn, Byworth

This is just one of those pubs you feel lucky to have found, its off the beaten track in a wonderful old candlelit georgian (?)building with fantastic ales on tap and a restaurant out the back that just keeps things nice and simple and all very reasonable.

The Evening Star, Brighton

At last I remembered to post my review on this wonderful pub! If only I was fortunate enough to live in Brighton, I would probably only leave this utopia to go home to sleep and eat! (and to go to work unfortunately too). This is a truly amazing place, what with the excellent range of Dark Star ales and guests too. I cant recommend strongly enough to anyone that you pay it a visit! Well done Dark Star!

The Digby Tap, Sherborne

I LOVE THIS PUB! Couldn't believe our luck when we stumbled across this hidden gem whilst holidaying in Dorset. Fantastic value for money pub grub (main meals 4 or less), Excellent range of ever changing local cask ales, very homely, cosy with a warm and friendly atmosphere created by both the happy staff and jolly locals!
Probably my favourite pub in the universe as from now!
As for what the previous negative comments by some, the phrase 'Impossible to please' springs to mind...

The Surrey Oaks, Newdigate

Had high expectations for this place as it is in The Good Beer Guide. I suppose rightly so as the local ale was top rate. BUT..found the locals to be very unwelcoming and had to wait to ages to be served as they were extremely understaffed. In fact we were going to eat there but gave up and went for a very nice curry across the road instead.

The Star, Petworth

Oh Dear! Sorry to say we were pretty disappointed after searching Petworth for a pub to find only a Fullers pub (What about Harveys)? Not really disputing the Fullers beer as we are from Surrey/South London border, which is where I'd expect to find one. After a half hour wait for a jacket spud and service with a mardy grumble instead of a smile, I think I'd probably sit in the park with a bottle or two and a sarnie instead, if we were in Petwoth again. Fullers! You need to investigate!

The Royal Oak, Holmbury St Mary

Stayed in the YHA up the road and took a walk down to this lovely pub. The food is great, certainly very reasonable compared to the more gastropubby places aroundabouts where a meal usually starts at about 13 quid. Not that I'm a veggie, but there's at least three veggie dishes on offer that aren't the bog standard lasagne/burger ilk. Plus they like dogs. All in all you couldn't wish for a better pub in the Surrey Hills - we soaked in the views and wished we had the money to live in Holmbury!

The Rising Sun, Epsom

I read the post about the imminent changes and my heart just sank. Other than emailing Youngs is there anything else we can do? Is there a local Campaign for Real Ale branch and can we get a campaign going that will help save this unique pub? I wondered if the local Guardian would also like to know what's happening here - supermarkets trying to invade Epsom and now the big breweries buying up the one remaining gem of a pub in Epsom

John Jakson, Wallington

Terrible dingy gloomy depressing place. As this is a fairly new building, I'm really suprised at the awful way this pub has been set out with the bar right at the back, in the corner with the loo upstairs.
Generally it's full of groups of lads and old gents.
On the up side it does have a couple of good ales on tap and I can't fault the friendly staff.

The Rising Sun, Epsom

Definitely the best pub in Epsom, great beers, brilliant grub. Its not snotty or pretentious, you can sit there and nurse your pint read the paper and chill out without feeling like someone is going to smash your head in like many of the pubs in Epsom town centre. You only need a couple of the full strength belgian beers to feel like you're having an out of body experience too.

The Plough and Harrow, Epsom

Awful place. I have gone right off it. It's a pub that I have popped into over the years and have really noticed the change. Now days there's just one pump for real ale but it never seems to be on. The rest are Stella, Fosters etc. Seems to be a lot of loud drunken blokes in there most of the time.
The only good thing is that there is a Juke Box but you have trouble getting to it as that is where the 'loud blokes' congregate. Found it quite an intimidating atmosphere. Best avoid.....

The Marquis of Granby, Epsom

To be honest this was a pub that I stopped going to for a few years but thought I'd give a go recently due to the fact it had been refurbished.
WOW! What a difference, it's like a different place altogether now. It has an outstanding range of real ales and continental beers and there is a real ambience about the place which never existed before. Haven't tried the food but the menu looks good. Well done to the management, they've got it just right.

The John Harvey Tavern, Lewes

Very impressed by this well kept pub. I didn't realise it was there until the other day as it's tucked neatly away off of the Hight St.
Great service, the staff are very attentive and the food was excellent. It goes without say that the beer was also top notch high class real ale.

The Plough and Harrow, Litlington

A really busy and popular pub for drinking and eating. Rightly so too.
In my experience, extremely friendly staff, great beers on tap, including Harveys (Local Lewes Brew) and although we are yet to eat there, the food looked exceedingly good as it whizzed by us.
Great mellow atmosphere in the evening. No uptightness or snobbery here, get the feeling the landlord and his staff are a fairly laid back bohemian bunch. Which is nice as the local YHA is only across the river and lots of students, walkers and families would find this a good watering hole without being frowned upon for having muddy boots which we did get in the Chablis serving pubs of Alfriston.
