The Beaufort Arms, Hawkesbury Upton

Great friendly pub. Stopped in while on the Cotswold Way. Good beer, proper decent pub grub. Friendly locals. Recommended!

The Old Spot, Dursley

Great beer, warm welcome, great pub

The Boathouse Inn, Saltaire

Smart place serving well kept ale with a great view of the river. Downside is that it's very expensive. Often seems that whenever I'm there the choice of ale is restricted and they're down to one for some reason - but that may not be all the time. Take plenty of cash!

The Sparrow, Bradford

A breath or fresh air in Bradford. Good selection of ales and bottles. Busy but not overly loud. Smart but not pretentious. Would recommend a visit as it's comfortably the best place in that part of town.

The Busfeild Arms, East Morton

Moved to Morton in Jan 2011. Pleasantly surprised by the pub. Beer is excellent. Saltaire Blonde always on with Tetleys. 2 changing guest ales, consisting usually of Taylor's Landlord and one other. Decent menu, friendly staff, roaring fire, beer garden. On the down side the grub can be a bit pricey and it can get mega busy. Apparently though miles better than it was a few years back.

The Black Bull, Ripon

Went in a couple of months back and had a very average lunch. Staff didn't seem to know what they were doing. Place could've done with a clean up!

The Rutland Arms, Sheffield

Great beers, traditional decor, friendly staff, good quiz, decent beer garden, friendly clientele...what more could I say. Well worth a visit. My only quibble was the lack of any beer under 4%.

Blyth Hotel, Southwold

Nice enough beer and the food's good as was the service. Room was very pokey given the price. Would probably stay elsewhere if going to Southwold again but may call in for a meal.

28 Jul 2011 18:18

The Lord Nelson, Southwold

Read somewhere that this was meant to be one of the top 10 pubs in the UK so expected something amazing.

Wouldn't go overboard about it but it did have the full range of Adnams and a nice beer garden. It was pretty rammed inside but was still quite characterful.

28 Jul 2011 18:16

The Kings Arms, Silsden

Seems to have a lot more real ale nowadays and has plenty of Camra signs up outside. Not bad inside either. The beer could be a bit more interesting for my liking but there's nothing wrong with it. I'd just fancy something a bit more out of the ordinary. However it's the best pub in the village by a long way. Does pub grub too, nothing amazing but just decent pub grub classics.

The Cricketers Arms, Keighley

Best pub in Keighley with some great ales from all over the country. Clientele are a real mixture which makes for a good atmosphere. You can escape downstairs if the bands are too loud or stay and watch. Unlike most other pubs in Keighley it's not just Taylors and one guest beer so it's worth a visit if you fancy something a bit different.

28 Jul 2011 18:04

The Boathouse Inn, Saltaire

Lovely setting by the river but gets packed outside during summer. Some decent beers on but no real surprises, Taylors, Saltaire, Theaktsons etc. Could be great but for the big prices. Food is alright too but again a bit pricey.

The Rock & Heifer Inn, Thornton

New landlady seems to be making a go of it and gives a warm welcome. Went in on a Monday night, was quiet as you'd expect but alright. Three real ales on if I remember correctly were Black Sheep, Golden Sheep and some stronger ale I forget. The Black Sheep was best as it had been selling most. It's quite nice sitting outside on a sunny day. Weekends apparently can be busy and there is karaoke on which isn't up everyone's alley so if you prefer a pint in peace try during the week or maybe Sunday.

28 Jul 2011 17:49

The George, Cullingworth

Seems to be the place to go for Old Spot Beers, it has them all and well looked after too. Place seems to have been done out and has a fair menu too. Not much in the way of a beer garden but worth stopping at for the ales and the grub. Friendly staff too.

The Pilot Inn, Berwick upon Tweed

Worth seeking out, prob second best pub in town after the Barrels.

17 May 2011 15:11

The Barrels Alehouse, Berwick upon Tweed

Good range of ales, plenty of seats and even live music sometimes. The best pub in Berwick.

17 May 2011 15:08

The Olde Ship Hotel, Seahouses

A nice pub with a good selection of ales. It's got some common ones like Theakston but a few local breas as well, all well kept. The main bar is very lively but you'll be lucky to get a seat, there's other space but it's mainly for diners. If you're dinign though you can stay and have a few drinks provided nobody's waiting for a table. Food is typical pub fare and ok, the service is very good.

17 May 2011 14:59

The Waggon and Horses, Oxenhope

Stopped by for lunch here on the way to Hebden Bridge. Food is basic pub fare but there's a decent menu and it's not that expensive. There's a good selection of ales. Seems more geared up for lunches and evening meals but has great views from the tables out front.

The Magpie Cafe, Whitby

Not a pub. A restaurant. Does superb seafood. Fish n Chips are good but excels at other stuff on the menu.

26 Aug 2010 16:07

The Stansfield Arms, Apperley Bridge

More of a restaurant/posing palace than a pub though they do serve some good ales. The Ford Pop may look out of place parked next to all the BMWs and Mercedes in the carpark!

26 Aug 2010 15:45

The Black Bull, Haltwhistle

Went in March 2010. The menu wasn't as stonking as when under previous ownership so gave the food a miss. Beer was very good though.

26 Aug 2010 15:42

The Love Apple Cafe, Bradford

Now shut.

26 Aug 2010 15:39

Delius, Bradford

Seems to have a different landlord every few months, but it's the last proper student pub there is near the uni. Serves deceent ales like Tiger, Copper Dragon, Saltaire etc. Live Music.

26 Aug 2010 15:37

CHE BAR, Bradford

I bet Che's rotating in his grave.

26 Aug 2010 15:35

The Dick Hudsons, Bingley

Average fare available at this gastropub, more of a restaurant really. Starting to serve more real ale but not a place to stop for just a drink unless it's a fine day and you can sit outside and admire the views.

26 Aug 2010 15:02

The Robin Hood Inn, Silsden

One of those pubs where the jukebox stops and everyone looks at you when you walk in!

26 Aug 2010 15:00

The Guide Inn, Hainworth

Looks like it's about to fall down, serves good beer, Old Spot. Don't go expecting plush furnishings!

26 Aug 2010 14:56

The Vine Tavern, Keighley

As I remember they have measured glasses in the Vine so you won't get your glass filled to the top. The pub's quite quiet when there's no entertainment on. More for your older clientele but friendly enough nonetheless.

26 Aug 2010 14:51

Duke of York, Whitby

Very much a tourist trap. Serves average pub grub. Has your usual real ales on without anything out of the ordinary but never much to write home about. Has some great views across the harbour.

9 Feb 2010 14:27

The Endeavour, Whitby

A quiet pub but serves excellent ales and has a warm welcome behind the bar and a roaring open fire. Now a regular haunt every year we go to Whitby. Recommended.

9 Feb 2010 14:25

The Ring of Bells, Shipley

Pretty decent range of ales which change fairly regularly. Hard to find a place not near a TV screen and it's sports mad especially when there's a big RL or football match. Having said all that it's not in any way chavvy and appeals to people of all ages.

9 Feb 2010 14:15

Fanny's Ale And Cider House, Saltaire

Some great beers. Always busy yet never seem to have too much trouble finding seats. Only fly in the ointment is the endless wait to be served due to the minute size of the bar.

9 Feb 2010 14:12

The Shipley Pride, Shipley

Decent ales and a bar more than the size of a postage stamp. So in one way it's better than its neighbour Fanny's up the road. Handy for all the restaurants nearby if you fancy a proper beer. Now got a "To Let" sign outside. Hope this doesn't mean it's days are numbered.

9 Feb 2010 14:11

The Shamrock Inn, Pudsey

Leeds Utd Theme Pub. Need I go on?

9 Feb 2010 13:47

The Butchers Arms, Pudsey

Not been in for a while but used to be one of the best looked after pubs in Pudsey and also the cheapest.

9 Feb 2010 13:46

The Fighting Cock, Bradford

Great beers, good staff and a friendly atmosphere. Spit & Swadust ambience. My only gripe is the gents are a bit on the grim side. Some hot water and soap wouldn't go amiss. Not seen any in there in 19 years! Nonetheless it's the best pub near to Bradford town centre if you like real ale. Also there's a good curry house in walking distance on Legrams Lane.

9 Feb 2010 13:43

Myrtle Grove, Bingley

Like a school sports hall with a bar. Really noisy when full. Typical large Witherspoons!

9 Feb 2010 13:40

The Starr Inn, Bingley

Still a fairly decent pub but in recent years has let its standards slip a bit. Last time I visited only Tetleys and Bombadier on hand pull and neither were particularly nice. There used to be a Black Sheep once upon a time. Bring it back.

Also not sure about some bar staff who thought putting on their own music over the pub PA after last orders. The "music" was in very bad taste and it soured my view of the place. Haven't been back since but hopefully it was a one off, this is probably one of the only half decent pubs in Bingley.

9 Feb 2010 13:38

The Brown Cow, Bingley

It's a smart pub with the full array of Taylor's beers. It seems more geared up for dining but unfortunately the standard of food isn't great. We waited for over 45mins for a steak & ale pie and a basic veggie pasta. Was told it was all cooked from fresh after 30mins of waiting. Seemed to be a lot of comings and goings from the kitchen by people but not much food emerging. When ours arrived the pie was a bit overdone and the pasta cold from hanging around. Won't be going again.
