The Old Red Lion, Kennington

A real gem of a pub this. Might not look like much from the outside but well worth stepping over the threshold. It's a very successsful marriage of old traditional aspects (stained glass windows, bar fittings, ceiling beams) with endearing pub eccentricites (tucked away nook and cranny booths, selection of old dolls houses and some retro artefacts.) There's a lot going on in here and many different parts to the pub which combine well. Nice little beer garden too. One of the best pubs to visit in SW London, easily.

The Exmouth Arms, Exmouth Market

A real shame as the place had cleaned up its act and was doing good before the Scottish guy who was running it well left. Drank in here on and off for years as it's local and late but don't recall it ever being as sloppy run as it is now - and that's saying something. What's with bright light as well? We like our pubs dark not like some kitchen spotlight that serves only to let us see just how manky the pub is. This pub had character and was always good for a few late on but better just to go home and safe a few quid if you pass by now.

The Bell House, Camden

Really good boozer that benefits from being away from the bustle of Camden without being out of the way. Lovely beer garden where you can look down on the canal. Last time I was in the Guinness was not the best though.

The Faltering Fullback, Finsbury Park

Absolute gem of a pub and well worthing seeking out. Beer garden worth venturing out into whether you smoke or not. Great boozer.

Wilmington Arms, Exmouth Market

Decent pub but was in last night and did not like seeing one male member of staff try to push a harmless old man who was outside playing a ukulele around. Totally needless as the guy was actually entertaining and not some drunk harassing punters. Embarassing stuff way over the top but good to see the old fella give as good as he got to some pathetic, insecure, control freaupstart who'd do better by collecting empties and cleaning out ashtrays than picking on people just trying to liven up the atmosphere in the street. Left to spend money elsewhere and after being a bit of a regular, don't think I'll bother going back for a bit.

The Shakespeare's Head, Soho

Far and away the worst pub in Soho and probably beyond for a good bit. Went in with a mate to try it out. Service poor and unfriendly. Two Guinness' badly poured - the head was about a third of the pint. Looked around to find all the tourists who were in drinking Guinness exactly the same - maybe it's accepatable in Spain. Took these back to the bar to be met with a sigh and roll of the eyes by the barmaid on asking she top them up. Finished and left for a decent boozer of which there are many nearby. Don't waste your time in this lame excuse for a pub - it's crap.
