The Royal George, Hersham

The RG has just had a bit of a re-vamp. Youngs have done a good job tarting it up. They've made a very good job of the old saloon bar, which probably hadn't been decorated for 30 years, but is now very cozy.

If you were put off by the previous scruffyness of the pub, it's worth giving it another look. Still a great little neighbourhood local, with excellent Thai food, but now much more pleasant inside.

The Bell Inn, Hampton

There are some iffy reviews down there. All I can say is that I just dropped in for a couple of pints on a Tuesday evening with me dawg and we were made welcome. The beer (I had the Doom Bar) was in good nick. Each end of the pub was set out for eating, which seems a lot, but the important bit around the bar had bar stools and comfy seats, so not much to complain about. The staff were a bit slow but friendly. If it was more local I'd be happy to while away a few hours there.

La Terraza, Walton-On-Thames

I'm not sure why my last review got deleted. It only mentioned that this isn't a pub, it's a Spanish restaurant with a bar area. It's non the worse for that, though. Great food at a really good price and with a lively atmosphere.

The Vine Inn, St Helens

Very pleasant pub. Visited on a Saturday evening, very much enjoyed the beer, the food and the atmosphere. The staff were really friendly, even the dog got biscuits.

The Plough, Wysall

Nice cozy country pub. Not dog friendly though, so I finished sitting outside with me dawg which kind of put a dampener on my long-country-walk-followed-by-pint-in-cozy-pub idea!

The Keyworth Tavern, Keyworth

Harsh words. Funny how the really poor ones are usually anonymous.

Unpretentious local boozer. The back bar is a bit spit and sawdust (well, Sky Sports and pool). The front bar is actually quite chinzy. Decent old crowd of regulars around the bar and some good craic.

The Crown and Anchor, Chichester

I'm a fan of the Crown and Anchor. It is a stunning location, and the beer's well kept. The bar staff are generally extremely friendly, but it does get ridiculously busy on summer weekends, so it's not surprising that sometimes the service gets a bit haphazard. For goodness sake, sit back, enjoy the beer and the view and chill out. It's a waterside pub, not a McDonalds!

The Plough Inn, Normanton-on-the-Wolds

A lovely old country pub that has just been sympathetically redecorated by Mark and Rachel, the new landlord and landlady. It's now got the interior feel that the building and location have always deserved. Good beer, high quality food and a warm welcome means that it's busier than for years.

The Star, Hersham

Now boarded up.

Another one bites the dust. Shame.

The Royal George, Hersham

The more I go to the George, the more I appreciate it. Excellent Thai food, well-kept Youngs beer. Dog-friendly, pleasant staff. Not too quiet, not too busy. A great local.

Sullivans, Weybridge

Pretty much 100% distilled Weybridge. Great Sunday lunches.

Old Manor, Bracknell

Enormous, rambling Weatherspoons pub, but in one of the few old buildings in Bracknell so more character than usual for Weatherspoons. Nice garden in summer. Food patchy, beer cheap.

The Old House At Home, Hersham

Should be twinned with the Lord Hotham up the road in Molesey. Two very scary pubs. If you're looking for a drink after coming out of the railway station. Keep walking!

The Weir Hotel, Walton on Thames

I've been boycotting this pub for years because they wouldn't serve six of us, because we were all blokes! (It was about 6:30 pm and we were wearing suits). Looks like I've not missed much. Shame, because it's a terrific location.

The Swan, Walton on Thames

I'm surprised at the low rating of The Swan. I's a Youngs pub, so the beer's good. There are a number of different rooms inside each with a different atmosphere. There's a nice beer garden with views of the river and an adults-only zone so you can avoid ill-behaved little darlings. The foods always been OK when I've eaten there. (OK, nothing special, but reasonable pub food)

The Prince of Wales, Weybridge

Rugby-mad landlord who knows what sort of customers he wants. Open fires. Good beer. Good food either in the bar or restaurant. Busy Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday lunchtimes, less frenetic other nights of the week. Dog friendly. Constantly-changing and multi-national array of barmaids, so if you don't like one, there'll probably be another one along shortly.

Ye Olde White Horse, Aldwych

Truly great, quirkly little pub. I used to work around the corner and this was a perfect little refuge.

Re: The no students thing. It's probably more accurately "No people who look and act like students"

The Royal George, Hersham

A good, unpretentious local boozer. Youngs beer and a nice atmosphere.

Can get very smokey, though. I'd go there more often if it wasn't so choking when it gets busy. Good luck with the extractors.

The Badgers Rest, Walton on Thames

This has always struck me as one of the more acceptable Vintage Inns "not-quite-a-pub-not-quite-a-restaurant" places. Service OK, food OK, beer limited but OK. Good wine selection. At 5:30 on a Sunday afternoon, when everyone else has stopped serving lunch and you're starving, suddenly you can see the point of the place!
