The Audley, Mayfair

This is a rather nice pub. As others have said, it did not appear to be a "tourist trap" upon my visit at the weekend - despite its proximity to a number of tourist haunts.

There did not appear to be a great deal of seating; though it was a Saturday evening, so the pub was reasonably crowded. Outside the pub are a couple of tables, which would be most pleasant during summer afternoons, I imagine. Upstairs you will find an area for diners complete with a small bar - although this did not appear to be staffed on Saturday evening. This room closes at 10pm, I believe.

As JohnBonser said, there is a television, and I think unfortunately also a quiz machine - although it was tucked out of the way in the corner near the television.

I found this to be a rather nice pub; far superior to some of the pubs I have visited nearby. Service was quite efficient without being overly friendly, although one chap in our party was at one stage a tad irked at having been served the wrong whisky - but this was swiftly rectified.

I didn't sample the food, but the prices looked quite reasonable, especially for the area - I've been to a fair number of pubs where the equivalent meal is more expensive than in The Audley. I was actually pleasantly surprised at the price of the drinks, having expected to part with significantly more of my money than I actually did in the end. It's certainly not cheap, but again, I've been to more expensive pubs. I would recommend a visit to The Audley if you find yourself anywhere nearby.

The Laurie Arms, Hammersmith

Above average pub with friendly service on my last visit. I'd say it's one of the better pubs in Hammersmith, particularly at the bar area. There's also an extended seating area with a pool table which feels a little more on the restaurant side. On the whole though a nice pub, certainly better than the Fire Station nearby.

Martins Wine Bar, Hammersmith

This is now closed and soon to reopen as a "Japanese pub", apparently. Hmm.

Latymers, Hammersmith

This is a reasonably small pub with a Thai restaurant through the back. It is quite nice and has televisions for sport should you wish to view any. I find the seating a bit awkward for some reason, that is if you are not able to get one of the tables at the side and are left in the middle, but that's probably just me. It's open until midnight from Thursday to Saturday which is a bonus.

The Churchill Arms, Kensington

This used to be an excellent pub. It's still quite nice, but I think it's lost something recently. This is quite possibly due, in part, to the Thai food which many have mentioned. It used to be my favourite pub around this area but now I think there are better options.

The Queens Head, Hammersmith

This pub is going from strength to strength these days. Splendid service and a wonderfully pleasant garden to while away the hours in. This is one of my favourite pubs.

Edwards Bar, Hammersmith

It's Edwards. I suppose it's adequate enough for a drink during the day or early evening, though it's not particularly nice (unsurprisingly). I've not been in at night but I doubt it'd be much to write home about by the looks of things. Also, the food is poor.

The Duke of Cornwall, Hammersmith

Another plastic pub with no real atmosphere on Fulham Palace Road. This place is so nondescript I can't think of anything else to say about it. There's no reason for anyone to want to go here.

The Old City Arms, Hammersmith

This pub is at a level not far above awful. Dark and boring with staff to match, there never seems to be any sort of good atmosphere in here. The barmaid who served me on my last unfortunate visit seemed to consider it a chore (after I had to ask her to serve me, despite my chum and I being the only people at the bar). I'd not been in for many months until the last time but it's not got any better.

I recall spending some evenings here during my schooldays but even then found it abysmal. It's a shame considering it looks reasonably pleasant since they've repainted the outside red, but this is definitely a pub to avoid.

The Blue Anchor, Hammersmith

My review shall pale into insignificance compared to the excellent ones posted by JohnBonser and RexRattus, but nonetheless I shall continue. I find The Blue Anchor to be a pleasant pub, a traditional place. The staff are good and help to create a friendly atmosphere inside. Obviously it's excellent to sit outside by the river in the summer, but even in somewhat cooler times I like to visit The Blue Anchor due to the interior.

Thankfully when I last visited the music seemed to be being played at an inoffensive volume (this was during the daytime), I hope that continues and they don't start blaring it out as the evening draws in.

I wouldn't say The Blue Anchor is a spectacular pub, but when in this area it's an excellent place to drink. When one considers that the immediate alternatives to it are The Rutland and The Old City Arms, it seems better still. Well worth a drink in.

Rutland Arms, Hammersmith

This is the worst riverside pub from Hammersmith to Chiswick. I see no reason why anyone would drink here when you have The Blue Anchor next door and other superior pubs a short walk westwards away. It somehow manages to be dull and dreary despite the location. The service ranges from poor to average. I avoid it.

Stonemasons Arms, Hammersmith

As has been said, calling this place a pub is a tad far fetched now. It's primarily a restaurant from what I can see. Apart from the name, it has nothing in common with a 'proper' pub. It seems nice enough, but I was on the hunt for a pub to drink in, rather than a restaurant to eat in, so had a couple of drinks and left. If you want a pub this is somewhere to avoid, if you want to go out for a meal then it might be pleasant.

The Old Fire Station, Hammersmith

I do not like this pub. Large and spread out, every time I've visited it's felt rather soulless. Devoid of any charm or features which would make it a special pub. The service seems adequate, but even when crowded this place manages to be free of any atmosphere to me. I didn't sample the food because I didn't want to stay here too long. There are far better pubs within easy walking distance.
