The Cotswold Arms, Burford

Stopped in for a quick pint on Sunday and was rewarded with a fabulous pint of Hung Drawn `n` Portered.

White Bear, Tewkesbury

Very taken with this pub on Saturday evening. The locals were a chatty bunch, the juke box was excellent and the pool table was very popular. A selection of 5 real ales, I would have preferred less pale ale in the choices for the time of year. Black Rat perry at £2.80 a pint was a popular choice too!

The Old Windmill, Coventry

This is the pub that caused us to miss the train! We did indeed enjoy the tiny snug in front and the range of ale was very good.

The Crown, Blackheath

Quiet when i popped in on a weekday lunchtime but i enjoyed my pint of Masterbrew.

24 Feb 2010 13:45

The Town Wall Tavern, Coventry

Saved this one til last and we really enjoyed the tiny snug in the front. Lovely old pub with a good range of real ale. Suggest you don`t miss the 9.30 back to London!

The Town Wall Tavern, Coventry

Not the easiest to find, had to ask directions in the Tudor Rose. My favourite of the pubs we visited, we sat in the modern extension at the rear and it was very pleasant. The ever reliable Doom Bar was good.

17 Feb 2010 12:53

The Golden Cross, Coventry

No customers at 2pm on a tuesday afternoon, possibly due to the soulless interior. Did stay as quiz machine was obviously available, there was Broadside on and it was ok no more.

17 Feb 2010 12:47

Earl of Mercia, Coventry

Popped in despite our general dislike of Lloyds as had been failing to find any beer. A Drop of the Black Stuff was very good.

17 Feb 2010 12:44

The Phoenix, Coventry

No real ale, walked on to the Earl of Mercia.

17 Feb 2010 12:42

The Oak Inn, Coventry

Protested the lack of real ale and left despite barmaid`s best efforts to make us stay.

17 Feb 2010 12:41

The Whitefriars Olde Ale House, Coventry

Pub built into very old houses. 6 real ales on, the Worcester Sorcerer was excellent.

17 Feb 2010 12:40

The Beer Engine, Coventry

First port of call on yesterday`s Coventry crawl, alas boarded up!

17 Feb 2010 12:35

The Lord Palmerston, Walthamstow

Used to be in here a lot in the 90s playing pool and pinball. Can`t say it`s changed all that much, two less pool tables and a little brighter. Beer is cheap and there were lots of promos on.

The Globe on Morning Lane, Hackney

Don`t really know why i like this place so much. The beer is fine, no interesting choices however and there never seem to be any dolly bird barmaids.
I guess it just fits my idea of what a proper pub should be like, friendly and unpretentious.

15 Feb 2010 12:52

The Duke Of Wellington, Hackney

The Duke is actually in Dalston but living in Hackney the choices for real ale are limited. I can appreciate this place might be a little pricier than the Pembury but for overall experience i`d vote for the Duke every time.

15 Feb 2010 12:46

The Walkabout, Angel, Islington

Whatever it was there is no reason to go now, truly dreadful. Only beer appearred to be about 20 bottles of Tooheys in a chiller, no wonder the place was empty!

15 Feb 2010 12:35

The William IV, Leyton

Excellent Brodies beers at 1.99 a pint make this an East London must visit. When you meet the family behind the beer they are always friendly and helpful.
I always enjoy my time in this particular pub.

15 Feb 2010 12:25

The Drum, Walthamstow

Okay Spoons pub, early opener but those hours appear reserved for lost souls staring forlornly into their half empty glasses.

15 Feb 2010 12:19

The Hare and Hounds, Leyton

I like this pub, they try very hard to be successful. The girls behind the bar are great and the prices are ok. Only one major complaint and that is that the real ale is always so bad that i no longer even try to order it.

15 Feb 2010 12:16

The Birkbeck Tavern, Leyton

An oasis in the desert surrounding the tube station. Garden is excellent so very much one for the summer months.

15 Feb 2010 12:10

The Coopers Arms, Kilburn

Recently had a mini-crawl up the High rd for old times sake and this was the only pub in which it was a pleasure to drink. As remembered, always busy with friendly staff and locals.

15 Feb 2010 12:08

Southern K, Kilburn

Certainly has gone, it`s a bookies now!

15 Feb 2010 11:46

The Penderel's Oak, Holborn

It is more the poor service and the lack of a range of drinks in the cellar bar that really annoys me about this place.

29 Dec 2006 12:42

The Cricketers, Richmond

There seems to be new management now. We were unceremoniously ejected at 10.40 on sunday evening just ten minutes after last orders was rung, and we were the last people to be picked upon. If you fancy a quiet drink on a sunday eveneing i suggest you walk round to The Ship.

27 Nov 2006 18:22

The Norfolk Arms Hotel, Arundel

Whilst staying at the hotel we popped into the Town bar for a bite to eat but it was far too smoky to stay. The Hotel bar was much more pleasant and i thoroughly recommend the omelettes.

The Penderel's Oak, Holborn

This must be the worst run pub in London!
I have watched football in the cellar bar on a couple of occasions only to be faced with atrocious service and all the real ales being unavailable after half-time. I had planned to watch the recent England game here but found that the bar had been hired out for a private function (I believe that only the downstairs bar has Sky) and that the Scotland game was being shown in the main bar area. This is the second time that the management have allowed something similar to happen. Truly a shocking pub.

The Drummond Arms, Albury

I visited last sunday for a pint and the sunday roast. I must admit the interior decor is a little strange and whilst the range of real ales is good my pint of HSB was not the best. However we were all happy with the food and the dark haired waitress who served us was brilliant, she even stopped eating her own lunch to take away our empty glasses. Owners, please give the young lady a raise!

19 Jun 2006 23:50

The Compasses Inn, Gomshall

I kicked off a sunday walk with a pint in this pub and loved it. The interior was rather quaint but the selection of real ales is rather splendid and the garden by the stream is a lovely spot.

19 Jun 2006 23:44

Southern K, Kilburn

It has indeed reverted to Biddy`s. For what reason i don`t know, apart from the piped Irish music and a change of staff it seems exactly the same!

9 May 2006 11:37

Inn 1888, Marylebone

I recently returned to this pub after many years and was pleasantly surprised. I recall it having been an average pub which you could stop off in or pass by. The refit was very well done, there is a very relaxing atmosphere and the position of the bar is very clever.

9 May 2006 11:33

The Rat and Ratchet, Huddersfield

Whenever i visit a strange town i always ask Flopper for his top recommendation. He suggested this place and as always he was right.
Twelve real ales on at the time of my visit and those which i tried were top quality. It looks like it has been refurbished quite recently and the service was friendly too.

21 Sep 2005 11:28

Crown Hotel, Huddersfield

Packed when i visited at 2.30 on a monday afternoon.
At 1.20 for a pint of gas you can`t complain too much, although all the facial jewellery on display was a little disconcerting.

21 Sep 2005 11:22

The Bricklayers Arms, Kingston Upon Thames

Kev told me today that PremPlus games would be shown from 1st Sept. This is just another good reason to visit one of Kingston`s best pubs.
I liked the atmosphere and was impressed by the beer, didn`t have the opportunity to try the food which is always well spoken of.

27 Aug 2005 23:04

The Cartoonist, Holborn

Because it was only early i thought a pint of lager shandy was a good idea. How wrong can you be? I was charged the price of a pint of lager plus 90p for a splash of lemonade!

16 Jun 2005 22:52

The Cricketers, Richmond

This pub had recently been a pretty sorry affair but i now notice that the new management are trying very hard. There seems to be a cheerful atmosphere again so more power to your elbow.

12 Jun 2005 11:58

The Nelson, Farnham

This was one of the first pubs i ever drank in and was always a personal favourite. That is until i recently revisited to find such a wonderful building had been ruined by such a silly refurb. I have no problem with gastropubs but historic buildings should be treated with some respect. I could not even reach the bar without turning round and leaving in a state of dismay.
