The Harp, Covent Garden

Made it here a couple of weeks ago for the first time. Packed. Quick service, no nonsense, great beer.

The Bell, High Wycombe

Visited for the first time in six months at the weekend. Beer quality last time was not so good but the Pride was in fine fettle on Friday night. Only Pride and ESB on cask

The Bootlegger, High Wycombe

Visited for the first time since the change of ownership last friday and overall disappointed. It was pretty busy, service was no better than ok. Inevitably I suppose with an offer of 200+ bottled beers and seven cask ales (only 6 were on though) the cask ale quality was disappointing. Why do people want to offer such a wide range when a narrower range would mean better throughput and better condition beer. With no clear reason to stay we moved on elsewhere. It is a shame. I dont get the bottled beer thing but it may help drive footfall. 4 cask pumps would be fine.

The Thornbury Castle, Marylebone

Had my first visit here last week. Pride and Admans bitter both on great form. It was the first port of call for the evening and in retrospect we should not have left. We will be back.

The Beehive, Marylebone

I visited last week with some friends. We had not been for a few years. Wendy Richard is long gone and it is correct that the beer quality is now very poor. Hopes are raised when you find Landlord and Pride next to each other on the bar, but they dont know how to keep good ale here anymore. Try the Thornbury Castle - we wished we had never left there.
